You don’t need to play every Star Wars game—or follow a required order—to get started. Choose a game by the kind of play you enjoy, then confirm its current availability and compatibility with your platform. StarWars.com’s beginner quiz takes the same preference-first approach, reflecting a catalog that spans very different eras and genres.
Start with the kind of game you want to play
Decide whether you want a solo story, open-world exploration, large battles, or an online role-playing game. These are different entry points, not steps in a prescribed series. The titles below are examples matched to play style—not rankings of quality or difficulty.

Match the game to your preferred experience
For a story-led Jedi adventure: Jedi: Fallen Order
If the appeal is playing a Jedi in a focused action-adventure, Fallen Order is a clear match. StarWars.com describes a story centered on Cal Kestis, with lightsaber combat, Force abilities, and exploration. That description helps identify the game’s style; it does not establish that the game is especially easy or suitable for every beginner.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor a scoundrel’s open-world adventure: Star Wars Outlaws
Outlaws is the option to investigate if you want to explore as a scoundrel rather than play a Jedi. Its official description highlights Kay Vess, stealth, blaster combat, gadgets, planetary exploration, and piloting. StarWars.com lists PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. Check your regional store for the current listing and the exact edition before buying.
#1 Best Overall
- The following games are included in the cartridge: STAR WARS Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy (3.6 GB)
- STAR WARS Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast (1.1 GB)
- STAR WARS Episode I Racer (254 MB)
- STAR WARS Republic Commando (2.5 GB)
- STAR WARS: The Force Unleashed (3.4 GB)
For campaign play or battles with others: Battlefront II
Battlefront II combines a single-player campaign with multiplayer battles, starfighters, and playable heroes. If you are choosing it for couch play, note the platform-specific detail: the official page specifies two-player offline split-screen for PS4 and Xbox One. Do not assume that feature applies to other platforms or editions; check the listing for the version you plan to play.
For online role-playing: The Old Republic
The Old Republic is a story-driven MMORPG with roles such as Jedi, Sith, and Bounty Hunter. StarWars.com describes it as free to play, which means there is a free-to-play starting point—not that every optional feature or piece of content has no cost. Review the game’s current terms and any optional purchases or subscriptions before committing.
Rank #2
- Standard Edition for PlayStation 5 (disc) includes the full Star Wars Zero Company game. Single-player turn-based tactics set in the twilight of the Clone Wars—lead Hawks and Zero Company in an intense campaign.
- Build your squad from clone troopers, scoundrels, astromechs and even a Jedi—combine abilities and gear in deep Tactical-Strategy combat.
- Plan at your base, adapt on dynamic battlefields and make decisions that shape missions and replayability in this cinematic Star Wars story.
- Customise Hawks and your operatives, tailor loadouts and unlock powerful squad synergies designed for Strategy, Turn-Based and Sci-Fi fans.
Check platform, edition, and availability before you commit
- Pick a preference. Decide whether you want a solo narrative, exploration, multiplayer battles, or online role-playing.
- Look up the specific game in your platform’s store. Confirm that the edition is listed for your device and region, and review its current price and availability. StarWars.com’s official games catalog is a useful directory, but catalog and store listings can change.
- Inspect the mode you care about. If you want to play with someone else, check whether the relevant mode is online or offline and whether it is supported on your exact platform. For Battlefront II split-screen, the official page names PS4 and Xbox One; don’t extend that claim to other versions.
- Read what “free to play” covers. Check for optional purchases, subscriptions, or content restrictions rather than treating free-to-play as a promise that the entire game is free.
The StarWars.com April 30, 2026 Star Wars Day roundup describes some free-to-play options and dated promotions. Because promotions and release details are time-sensitive, use it as a dated reference rather than a current deal list; verify present terms in the relevant store.
What you can—and can’t—compare from these descriptions
The official pages establish useful differences in genre, modes, and some platform support. They do not provide comparable difficulty ratings, playtimes, accessibility details, or current prices for these games. Choose by the experience you want, then check the store and game-specific information for details that matter to your setup.
