One important distinction: many guides about DMZ contracts and extraction describe the older Warzone 2.0 mode, not confirmed instructions for MW4. The new mode’s exact contract list, access steps, and extraction procedure have not been published in the official overview. Call of Duty’s MW4 DMZ overview, published June 6, 2026, is the current reference for what has been announced.
What to do first in MW4 DMZ
Use the announced onboarding flow as a preparation checklist rather than assuming the mode works like its 2022 predecessor. Call of Duty’s Hajin overview establishes the setting and broad activity types; its Hajin Intel Guide explains the FOB and DMZ Orders.

- Open the Forward Operating Base. The FOB is described as the command center for progression, gear preparation, and planning. Its stations support preparation and are intended to evolve with operations.
- Read DMZ Orders. These mission directives are the clearest officially described starting point: they guide onboarding, explain the story, and direct players toward mastering the exclusion zone.
- Prepare an Operator and loadout. Use the Operators station to check status and select an Operator ready to deploy. Use Stash/Loadout to manage stored weapons and gear; offload extracted items you expect to need on later deployments.
- Pick a goal for the deployment. Choose a Story Mission or Dynamic Operation if you want a defined activity, or explore and pursue player-driven encounters. The official overview names these options but does not give their detailed steps.
- Plan to extract. Loot and resources remain at risk during an operation. Treat getting out successfully as part of the objective, not an afterthought.
The official guide describes the FOB as having over a dozen stations, but does not establish a complete launch-day station list or a button-by-button route through the interface.

The announced options differ mainly in how much direction they provide. The official overview does not publish exact task steps, difficulty rankings, or payouts, so use this comparison to choose a style—not to predict rewards.

Call of Duty says that pushing farther into danger can offer greater rewards, while deployments carry risk. That supports a cautious beginner approach: pursue a clear objective, pay attention to changing threats, and weigh further exploration against the value of getting out with what you have. It does not establish that any one activity is objectively easier.
Are there contracts in MW4 DMZ?
The official MW4 overview names Story Missions and Dynamic Operations, but it does not confirm that the contract system from Warzone 2.0 returns. “Contracts” in older DMZ guides refers to a legacy system; those guides should not be treated as a list of available MW4 objectives or as current navigation instructions.

In the original Warzone 2.0 DMZ, Activision described faction missions chosen before a match, in-match contracts for cash or rewards, optional world activities, and helicopter extraction at marked locations. Those are historical details for that version only. They may help explain older terminology, but do not establish how MW4 DMZ contracts or extraction work. How extraction fits into a deployment
Extraction is the mechanism that ends your exposure to the operation and lets you leave with what you have secured. The MW4 overview emphasizes extraction and the risk attached to a deployment, but does not specify where extraction points are, how to activate one, how long the process takes, or what precise penalties follow a failed attempt. Those details require an official MW4 player guide or in-game instructions; the helicopter-and-marked-location process documented for Warzone 2.0 should not be assumed to carry over.

What is confirmed—and what still needs checking
The available official MW4 material confirms the Hajin Exclusion Zone setting, the FOB as a preparation and progression hub, DMZ Orders as onboarding directives, and Story Missions and Dynamic Operations among the announced activities. It also presents solo and squad deployment, valuable loot, changing threats, player-driven encounters, and extraction as parts of the experience.
It does not provide a complete launch date and access walkthrough, a definitive contract list, or the detailed extraction sequence. Do not assume the announced mode is already playable or that older DMZ mechanics apply. For access, platform availability, and operational instructions, check current official MW4 announcements and the in-game guide when available.
