If there is no retailer alert, a third-party stock monitor may help—but confirm that it currently covers the store and product. An alert does not reserve the item, so return to the listing promptly when you receive one.
Sign up for a restock alert from the retailer
- Open the exact product listing, preferably while signed in to your retailer account.
- Check the product page and the retailer’s app for an availability alert labeled “Notify me,” “Notify me when it’s back,” or something similar. The option may not appear for every sold-out item.
- Follow the signup prompt and provide the requested contact details. Allow email messages or app notifications as appropriate.
- When an alert arrives, open the product listing and check whether it is still available to order.
The alert process depends on the retailer and the particular product. Target’s documented example says shoppers must sign in. Signing up on Target’s website sends an email; signing up in its app sends a push notification. Target also says its feature does not apply to store inventory, and exclusions can apply to high-demand or limited items. Target Help explains its notification policy; that is an example of one retailer’s policy, not a universal process.

What to do if there is no alert option
Consider a cross-retailer stock-monitoring service if the retailer does not offer its own notification for the item. Is In Stock describes email and desktop push alerts for products across retailers, and claims coverage of more than 10,000 retailers. That coverage figure is the service’s own claim, not an independently verified count. Before relying on any tracker, check whether it currently supports the exact store and product and confirm which notification methods it offers. Is In Stock describes its service and coverage.

For example, Notify Me!’s merchant documentation describes email, SMS, and push alerts for stores using its software. It says SMS and WhatsApp messages can have per-message costs that vary by country. Those details describe merchant setup, not a promise that a particular retailer offers those channels to customers. Notify Me!’s setup guide is aimed at merchants.

Understand what a restock alert does—and does not—mean
- It is a notification, not a reservation. Target says opting in does not reserve or guarantee availability. By the time you open the page, the item may have sold out again.
- Eligibility can vary. Retailers may not offer alerts for every product. Some may exclude high-demand or limited items.
- Inventory coverage can be limited. In Target’s example, the notification feature does not cover store inventory.
- Channels vary. A signup might lead to email, app push, or another method, depending on the retailer and how you register.
A merchant setup guide from Notify Me! says its alerts can trigger when inventory reaches a configured threshold, one by default, and warns that a single-unit restock can sell out immediately. That is a description of the merchant’s configuration, not a general rule for consumer alerts. See the merchant setup details.
