Unlock Herbert’s request
Speak with Herbert at the Barracks after the relevant earlier story progression. The walkthrough identifies the conversation as “Sad Captain, No Action”; it explains that Herbert wants a romance novel and unlocks “Wharf Rats.” Follow the active quest journal if the wording differs in your build.

Start Davy’s request at the Dockside Club
Go to the Dockside Club in the Port and speak with Davy the Dagger, the looters’ leader. Complete the conversation to start the novel request. Simply finding Davy at the club may not be enough to activate it.
Get one Key for Looters
The reported direct story route is to win the first sewer battle, which rewards three Keys for Looters. A tier 2 or tier 3 Jeweler is also reported to sell keys, but the walkthrough provides no verified current price.

The battle is the straightforward option if you are progressing through the story. Buying from a Jeweler may help if you already have access to one and want to spend currency instead. Merchant availability and battle rewards can vary by build, so check your current game state if these details do not match.
Trade the key for the Love Novel
- Return to Davy at the Dockside Club after obtaining a Key for Looters.
- Choose the Love novel option in his conversation.
- Hand over one key. The quest listing records the key as consumed and the Love Novel and one Story as rewards.
Deliver the novel to Herbert
Take the Love Novel to Herbert at the Barracks and select the romance-novel hand-in. The quest listing records Herbert reputation and Town Gratitude as rewards; “The Nun Also Reads” is the follow-up story beat.

What to do if the quest does not advance
- If Davy’s novel option is missing, return to Herbert and complete “Sad Captain, No Action,” then speak with Davy again.
- If you have visited the Dockside Club but the request is not active, finish Davy’s conversation rather than leaving after locating him.
- If a merchant tier, battle reward, or dialogue label differs, use the active quest journal as your guide; published walkthroughs do not establish every current-build detail.
The walkthrough and quest database support these steps, but they are secondary sources rather than first-party quest documentation. The official Graveyard Keeper 2 page describes the game and its platform context, but does not document Herbert’s quest.
