If the toolbar is missing, turn on Keyboard toolbar in Samsung Keyboard settings, if your model supports it.
Open the emoji picker on Samsung Keyboard

Open a messaging app or another app with a text field, then tap the field to show the keyboard.

Tap the smiley or emoji control to open the picker. If you do not see it, look for Emoji in the keyboard toolbar. Expand the toolbar if it is collapsed to reveal more functions.

Tap an emoji to insert it into the text field, then return to the keyboard to continue typing.

Samsung describes the Messages toolbar as offering Emoji, Stickers, GIF, Voice Input, and Settings. The exact controls and screen layout can differ by phone and software version. Samsung’s Canada instructions for Samsung Keyboard settings
Restore a missing emoji button or keyboard toolbar
If the emoji control is not visible, enable the keyboard toolbar where available:

Open Settings.

Tap General management, then Samsung Keyboard settings.

Turn on Keyboard toolbar.

Return to a text field, show Samsung Keyboard, and check the toolbar for Emoji. Expand the toolbar if needed.

Samsung notes that toolbar availability depends on the model and software version. If the menu path differs, search Settings for “Samsung Keyboard.” Older Android versions may use a route such as Language and input > On-screen keyboard > Samsung Keyboard > Style and layout; menu names are not universal. Turn on emoji suggestions while typing
For suggested emoji that match words you type, open Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings, then enable Suggest emojis under Smart typing, if the option is available. Suggestions are different from the full picker: use the picker when you want to browse and choose any emoji, or suggestions when you want Samsung Keyboard to offer matches as you type. Check which keyboard is selected
These toolbar instructions apply to Samsung Keyboard. If another keyboard is selected, its emoji button and settings may work differently. To check or change the default, go to Settings > General management > Keyboard list and default, then select Samsung Keyboard if you want to use it. Samsung’s instructions for keyboard selection
Ordinary emoji are separate from Galaxy Avatar
You do not need to create an avatar to type standard emoji. Samsung’s personalized emoji feature is available only on select devices running Android 9.0 or later. Samsung began using the name Galaxy Avatar instead of AR Emoji with the Galaxy S25 release and on other compatible Galaxy devices and tablets running Android 15 with One UI 7.0. If you cannot find a setting, use Settings search for “Samsung Keyboard,” and check whether Samsung Keyboard is the active keyboard.
