To get a custom theme through Microsoft’s official route, open Settings > Personalization > Themes, select Browse themes to open the Microsoft Store catalog, then choose a theme to apply it. You can also adjust its individual parts or save your own combination.
How to download and apply a Microsoft Store theme
- Open Settings and go to Personalization > Themes.
- Browse the themes already available on your PC, or select Browse themes to open the Microsoft Store catalog.
- Choose a theme in the Store, then select it to apply it to your desktop.
Microsoft documents this process for Windows 11 and Windows 10 in its theme personalization guidance. Its instructions do not specify a Windows 11 build number or establish that every Store theme is available in every country or on every device.

What a Windows theme changes
A theme is a bundle of desktop personalization settings. It can combine background pictures, window colors, sounds, and other elements. After applying one, return to Settings > Personalization > Themes and use the Background, Color, Sounds, or Mouse cursor options to change components individually.

Save, share, or remove a customized theme
Save your settings as a theme
After adjusting the theme’s components, return to Themes, select Save, and enter a name. Your combination will then be available among your themes.
Share a saved theme
Right-click the saved theme and choose Save theme for sharing. Windows creates a .deskthemepack file that you can share.

Delete a saved theme
Right-click a saved theme and choose Delete. Default Windows themes cannot be deleted. These options are described in Microsoft’s theme instructions.
Choose a background or color mode without changing the whole theme

If Browse themes is missing
Microsoft’s published theme steps do not explain why Browse themes might be absent or provide a supported workaround for a work- or school-managed device. The documentation also does not establish how Store account or regional availability affects the catalog. Avoid assuming that every theme will be available on every PC.
