The most practical cable-free fix is to send audio by Bluetooth from the projector or playback device to a powered speaker positioned near the screen or seats. Whether that works depends on the exact projector model, its available audio outputs, and the source device. If Bluetooth is unavailable, use the source device’s own Bluetooth connection, a compatible transmitter, or HDMI ARC/eARC with the projector and sound system kept together rather than a cable stretched across the room.

Start with the projector and source, not the speaker

Projectors do not share one standard wireless-audio feature set. Some can transmit audio over Bluetooth; some only receive Bluetooth input; some have no Bluetooth audio transmission at all. A projector may also offer HDMI ARC/eARC, optical, or analog outputs, while another model offers none of those. The streaming stick, laptop, game console, or disc player feeding the projector may provide a better connection point than the projector itself.

Find the projector’s full model number, then read the manual’s sections named Sound Out, Audio Output, Bluetooth, ARC, or eARC. Do the same for the playback device and the speaker or soundbar. Do not assume that a projector with Bluetooth can transmit sound: some models use Bluetooth only for pairing a remote, keyboard, headphones, or a speaker as an input.

Which cable-free arrangement fits your equipment?

What your equipment supports Recommended arrangement What must be checked
Projector has Bluetooth audio output Pair a Bluetooth speaker or headphones directly with the projector. The manual must identify Bluetooth audio transmission, not merely Bluetooth control or input. Check delay, range, and whether the speaker is already paired elsewhere.
Projector lacks Bluetooth output; source device supports Bluetooth Pair the speaker with the streaming box, computer, console, or other playback source. Confirm that the source can send sound and video simultaneously, then test lip-sync with the actual app and display path.
Projector and soundbar or receiver support HDMI ARC/eARC Connect their ARC/eARC ports with HDMI and place the two devices near each other. Both ports must support the same ARC or eARC function. Select the correct audio output and an audio format both devices accept.
Projector has a compatible audio output but no Bluetooth transmission Add a Bluetooth transmitter connected to that output, then pair a speaker. Match the transmitter’s input to the projector’s connector and verify its video latency before buying.
Remote powered speakers need a wired source feed Use a dedicated transmitter/receiver kit: transmitter at the source, receiver beside the powered speakers. Confirm input and output connectors, power requirements, range, and the kit’s stated latency.

These are alternatives, not interchangeable promises. Compatibility and synchronization are determined by the particular models in your chain.

Option 1: Pair a Bluetooth speaker with a projector that can transmit audio

On supported LG projectors, LG USA Support documents this path: open Settings, select Sound Out, choose the Bluetooth or wireless-speaker option, and select the speaker from the list. The wording and menu position vary by model, so use your manual if those labels are different. Epson also documents A2DP Bluetooth output for specific projectors and sources covered by its setup instructions; that documentation is not evidence that every Epson projector has the feature.

  1. Turn on the speaker, put it in pairing mode, and place it where it will normally be used.
  2. On the projector, open the sound-output menu and select the Bluetooth audio option.
  3. Choose the speaker’s name from the discovered-device list and wait for the connected status.
  4. Play a dialogue-heavy scene, not just a menu sound. Check that the picture and voices stay together at your normal volume and viewing distance.
  5. If the projector keeps selecting its internal speaker, return to Sound Out and explicitly select the Bluetooth device. Some models require changing the output each time a device is disconnected.

Keep the projector and speaker within reliable radio range. LG identifies distances beyond 32 feet (10 metres) as a possible cause of an unstable Bluetooth connection in its projector troubleshooting guidance. That is a manufacturer troubleshooting threshold, not a universal range guarantee. Walls, cabinets, people, and other radio equipment can reduce the usable distance.

When direct projector Bluetooth is the wrong choice

A Bluetooth logo on the projector does not settle the question. BenQ’s support answer says the listed models on its page cannot transmit audio through Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. That statement is scoped to those models; it should not be generalized to every projector from that manufacturer or any other manufacturer. If your manual does not explicitly describe Bluetooth audio output, treat direct pairing as unavailable until the manufacturer confirms it.

Option 2: Pair the speaker with the playback device

If the projector only receives video, move the wireless audio connection upstream. A streaming box, laptop, console, or other playback device may be able to send its audio directly to a Bluetooth speaker while the projector receives the video signal. BenQ lists this as an alternative when the projector itself cannot transmit audio.

  1. Identify the device that actually plays the program. The operating system or streaming box, rather than the projector, is the device to configure.
  2. Open that device’s Bluetooth settings, put the speaker into pairing mode, and connect it.
  3. Set the speaker as the audio output while leaving the projector selected as the video display.
  4. Test several types of content. A film app, a game, and a live broadcast can have different buffering and synchronization behavior.
  5. Check for competing outputs. Disable an old headset or another remembered speaker if the source keeps connecting to the wrong device.

This arrangement can be convenient when the source is already near the seating area, but it does not automatically eliminate delay. The complete video route still includes the source, projector processing, app buffering, and the Bluetooth link. Test the system with the exact source and projector settings you intend to use.

Option 3: Use HDMI ARC or eARC when the devices can sit together

ARC (Audio Return Channel) and eARC send audio over an HDMI connection from a compatible display device to a compatible soundbar or receiver. They solve a different layout problem from Bluetooth: the projector and sound system remain connected by HDMI, so the HDMI cable must be short enough to keep those devices together. ARC/eARC does not send sound wirelessly across a room by itself.

  1. Confirm in both manuals that the projector’s HDMI port and the soundbar or receiver’s port support ARC or eARC. An ordinary HDMI input is not necessarily an ARC/eARC port.
  2. Connect those labeled ports with an HDMI cable and place the sound system beside the projector or at the same equipment location.
  3. In the projector’s audio menu, select HDMI ARC/eARC or the equivalent external-output setting.
  4. Enable the soundbar or receiver’s ARC/eARC input and, if required, HDMI-CEC control.
  5. Choose an audio format supported by both devices. If you get silence, temporarily select a basic format such as PCM to determine whether the issue is format compatibility.

If the speakers must remain across the room, ARC/eARC can still be the first part of the chain, but a separate wireless transmitter/receiver link is needed for the final distance. The manuals should be checked for supported formats and for whether the projector can return audio from every input or only from selected sources.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Option 4: Add a Bluetooth transmitter to an audio output

A transmitter is useful when the projector cannot transmit Bluetooth but does expose an audio output. The transmitter converts that output into a Bluetooth link for a compatible speaker or headphones. It is conditional equipment: the connector, output behavior, Bluetooth codec support, and latency all matter.

  1. List the projector’s actual audio outputs from its manual. Do not order a transmitter until you know whether the available connection is optical, RCA, HDMI ARC, or another connector.
  2. Choose a transmitter with the matching input and a Bluetooth mode that your speaker accepts.
  3. Check whether the projector’s output is enabled simultaneously with its internal speaker or whether you must select an external-output mode.
  4. Pair the transmitter and speaker, then play dialogue and moving lips to evaluate delay.
  5. Keep the transmitter powered continuously if the projector’s USB port switches off with standby; otherwise use the adapter specified by the transmitter.

Bluetooth can introduce noticeable lip-sync delay. BenQ describes around 300 milliseconds of minor audio lag for external speakers or headphones on the models covered by its guidance. The figure is model-specific support guidance, not a universal Bluetooth measurement. Some LG projector manuals include an audio-delay control, but the available range and its effectiveness depend on the projector and the connected device. A delay control can align sound that is late; it cannot make a link with unstable dropouts reliable.

Option 5: Use a dedicated wireless transmitter/receiver kit

A transmitter/receiver kit is often the cleanest route to existing powered speakers that are far from the projector. The transmitter accepts a wired feed at the equipment end; the receiver sits near the speakers and provides their required audio connection. Wireless audio does not power the speakers, so active speakers, a soundbar, or a receiver still needs its own electrical supply.

Marmitek lists its Audio Anywhere 730 with HDMI ARC, optical, and RCA inputs. Its product page states a range of up to 20 metres and latency below 12.5 milliseconds. Those are the manufacturer’s specifications for that model, not independent test results or a guarantee for every room. Obstacles, interference, installation height, and the connected equipment can affect actual performance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Match the kit’s transmitter input to the projector, source, or ARC/eARC connection you plan to use.
  2. Match the receiver’s output to the powered speaker or soundbar input.
  3. Provide mains or battery power to both ends as the product requires.
  4. Pair the transmitter and receiver according to the kit’s instructions, then select the corresponding projector output.
  5. Test from the intended seats with the doors, furniture, and wireless networks in their normal positions.

Prefer a dedicated kit when low delay is more important than the convenience of ordinary Bluetooth, or when your existing speakers have a fixed wired input and you do not want to replace them. Verify the published latency and connector list for the exact model rather than assuming another kit has the same specifications.

Control range and radio interference

Place the speaker where its radio path is as open as practical. Avoid hiding a Bluetooth speaker or receiver inside a metal cabinet, behind the projector body, or immediately beside a wireless router. LG warns that obstacles and strong radio sources such as Wi-Fi routers and microwaves can destabilize a Bluetooth connection. If the link drops, move the devices closer before changing settings; distance and obstruction are easier to diagnose than codec behavior.

  • Keep the speaker within the manufacturer’s stated range, with margin for walls and furniture.
  • Move a router or microwave away from the transmitter and receiver when troubleshooting.
  • Disconnect unused paired devices that may automatically reclaim the speaker.
  • Do not confuse a speaker’s battery indicator with signal strength; charge it before diagnosing wireless performance.
  • For a permanent installation, consider mains-powered speakers or a receiver so a flat battery does not interrupt a film.

Fixing lip-sync and dropouts

Voices are consistently late

Look for an audio-delay or lip-sync control in the projector, source, soundbar, or receiver. Increase or decrease the delay while watching spoken dialogue until the sound matches the mouth movement. A control documented by LG on a supported projector is not proof that every model offers one. If no adjustment exists and the delay remains obvious, use a lower-latency dedicated link, a different connection point, or wired ARC/eARC with the equipment placed together.

Voices are early or timing changes between apps

Reset any manual delay to zero, then test each source separately. Streaming apps can buffer differently, and a television or projector may apply different image-processing delays to different inputs. Disable unnecessary picture-processing modes while testing, because the goal is to identify whether the variable is the display, the source, or the wireless path.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The speaker cuts out or will not stay paired

  • Bring the devices within a few feet and retry pairing.
  • Remove the speaker from the projector or source’s saved Bluetooth list, restart both devices, and pair again.
  • Check for another phone, tablet, or computer connected to the speaker.
  • Reduce obstacles and move the link away from routers and microwaves.
  • Confirm that the transmitter and receiver, if used, are both powered and showing a connected status.

If close-range testing is stable but the normal position is not, the problem is likely range or interference rather than the projector’s audio menu.

Sound quality, speaker position, and power

Place the speaker near the screen or near the listeners, depending on which arrangement keeps dialogue anchored to the picture. A speaker far to one side can sound detached even when the wireless connection is perfect. A compact Bluetooth speaker may be adequate for clear dialogue, while a soundbar or stereo pair may better suit music and wider seating. Surround sound requires checking that the source, projector path, and sound system all support the intended channels; a wireless link does not create surround capability that the equipment lacks.

Account for power at every wireless point. A battery speaker needs charging, a Bluetooth transmitter needs its own power, and a receiver beside powered speakers may need an adapter. A cable-free run across the room is not the same as a cable-free installation: short power cords at the equipment and speaker locations may still be necessary.

Compare the approaches before buying anything

Approach Main advantage Main limitation Best fit
Projector-to-Bluetooth speaker Fewest extra components and no signal cable across the room. Only works on projectors with Bluetooth audio output; delay and range vary. A supported projector and a single nearby powered speaker.
Source-to-Bluetooth speaker Uses the playback device when the projector cannot transmit audio. Synchronization depends on the source and its video path. A source device with reliable Bluetooth audio output.
HDMI ARC/eARC Stable digital connection and a familiar soundbar/receiver workflow. Still requires HDMI between the projector and sound system. Equipment that can be placed together.
Bluetooth transmitter Adds wireless output to a projector with a suitable audio connector. Requires connector matching and may introduce substantial delay. A projector with optical, RCA, ARC, or another supported output.
Dedicated transmitter/receiver kit Can feed remote powered speakers and may offer lower stated latency than ordinary Bluetooth. More boxes, power supplies, and compatibility checks. Existing powered speakers located away from the projector.

Use seven checks when choosing: exact projector and source compatibility; lip-sync behavior and delay controls; range and obstacles; stereo or surround requirements; speaker charging or mains power; connector and setup complexity; and total cost. The available evidence establishes compatibility and latency as important trade-offs, but it does not establish one universally best arrangement or an independent head-to-head winner.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A practical installation checklist

  • Write down the exact projector, playback source, speaker, and any soundbar or receiver models.
  • Confirm whether Bluetooth is an audio output on the projector or source, not merely an input or control feature.
  • Record the available projector outputs and match them to any transmitter or receiver inputs.
  • Decide where each device will sit, including power outlets and the shortest unavoidable cables.
  • Pair devices before permanently mounting or hiding them.
  • Test dialogue, music, games, and live content from the normal viewing seats.
  • Measure practical range with furniture, doors, and Wi-Fi equipment in their normal positions.
  • Keep the purchase packaging and manuals until synchronization and reliability are proven.

Bottom line

Check the exact model first. If the projector explicitly supports Bluetooth audio output, pair a compatible powered speaker and keep it within a clear, reliable range. If it does not, connect the speaker to the playback source, use ARC/eARC with the equipment together, or add a transmitter that matches the projector’s audio connector. Treat delay as a design decision: ordinary Bluetooth can be noticeably late, while a dedicated kit may publish a lower latency figure, but only the complete projector-source-speaker combination can confirm the result in your room.
