A non-null result gives you the content, padding, border, and margin as coordinate quads, plus the element’s width and height.
Get the box model
Page.$() returns an ElementHandle for a matching selector, or no handle if nothing matches. Then call boxModel() on that handle. This runnable example reports both cases explicitly:

console.log('margin:', model.margin);The API returns Promise<BoxModel | null>, so handle both a missing selector and a null box model. The method returns null when the element is not part of the layout; the documentation gives display: none as an example. See Puppeteer’s method reference and ElementHandle documentation.
Read the returned dimensions and coordinates
A non-null BoxModel has four quads: content, padding, border, and margin. Each quad contains points with x and y coordinates. Puppeteer documents those points as sorted clockwise. For example, the first point of the border quad can be read like this:

Choose between boxModel() and boundingBox()
- Use
boxModel()when your code needs the content, padding, border, and margin quads separately. - Use
boundingBox()when one bounding rectangle relative to the main frame is sufficient. It also returnsnullfor an element that is not part of the layout. See the boundingBox() reference.
Troubleshoot a null result
- No element handle:
page.$()did not find a match. Check the selector and confirm the page has reached the point when the target element exists. boxModel()returns null: Puppeteer could not provide a layout box for the element. Check whether it is hidden from layout, such as bydisplay: none, and whether the page state is the one you intended to measure.
