You usually do not need advanced features to start live streaming from a computer. Phone verification gives a channel intermediate features, which include computer live streaming with a limited daily limit. Advanced features raise that limit. To request advanced access, complete phone verification, then either build sufficient channel history or verify your identity by ID or video if YouTube offers that option.
Check which YouTube features your channel has
- Sign in to YouTube Studio with the Google Account for the channel.
- Open Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility.
- Review the status shown for intermediate and advanced features. The page indicates what is already enabled and what steps remain for your channel.
Eligibility is specific to your channel. YouTube’s help guidance does not establish whether a particular channel is currently eligible, or whether identity verification will be offered to its owner.

Get intermediate features with phone verification
Computer live streaming is an intermediate feature. If it is not enabled, start with phone verification from the Feature eligibility page. YouTube sends a verification code by text message or voice call; follow the on-screen instructions to enter it. Phone verification is the initial step toward advanced features, too.
After verification, check Feature eligibility again. If computer live streaming is still unavailable, check the separate live-streaming requirements below rather than assuming advanced access is required.

Complete the advanced-features steps
Advanced access requires phone verification first, followed by one of two routes shown by YouTube:

- In YouTube Studio, go to Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility.
- Complete phone verification under intermediate features if it is not already complete.
- Under advanced features, choose the available route: continue building channel history, or submit an ID or video check if YouTube offers one.
- Follow the status shown on that page. Keep following YouTube’s Community Guidelines and maintain positive channel history; policy noncompliance or a loss of positive history can delay or remove advanced-feature eligibility.
YouTube states, “To access advanced features, you must first complete phone verification.” The identity route is not a guaranteed shortcut: it may not appear for your channel, and YouTube gives no fixed time for the channel-history route.

Check the requirements that apply separately to live streaming
Feature eligibility and permission to live stream are related, but distinct. YouTube says a channel must be verified, must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16 years old. These are separate from advanced-feature access.
- Channel verification: Complete phone verification if you have not done so.
- Recent restrictions: Check whether the channel has a live-streaming restriction within the previous 90 days.
- Age: YouTube’s minimum age requirement for live streaming is 16.
YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says: “To live stream, you need to have no live streaming restrictions in the past 90 days and you need to verify your channel.” If Feature eligibility shows intermediate access but streaming remains unavailable, investigate these live-specific conditions as well.

Choose a streaming method after eligibility is enabled
YouTube supports mobile, webcam, encoder, and console streaming. The equipment you need depends on the method, but buying equipment does not unlock eligibility.
- Webcam: For computer webcam streaming, you need a computer with a webcam.
- Encoder: Useful for gameplay or a production using equipment such as microphones, cameras, and preamps.
- Mobile or console: YouTube lists these as other streaming methods; use the method-specific setup shown by YouTube.
If the channel-history route is taking time
YouTube does not give a guaranteed public timeline for building sufficient channel history. The help guidance describes history as a combination of channel activity and Google Account-related signals and says most active channels already have enough. Keep the channel in good standing and revisit Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility to see whether its status changes. If the ID or video option is absent, that route is not currently available to every creator.
