To get a Japanese IP address, connect to a VPN server in Japan—choose Tokyo if you need a Tokyo location—in the VPN app. NordVPN, Surfshark, and ExpressVPN each document Japan server options. Their published pages explain how to connect, but the available evidence does not establish comparative hands-on testing or show that any particular streaming or other service will work.
How to get a Japanese IP address
- Choose a VPN service and install its app on your device.
- Sign in and open the app’s server or location picker.
- Select Japan. If the app offers city-level locations and you need a Tokyo address, choose Tokyo, then connect.
- To check the apparent location, use a separate reputable IP lookup service. Treat its result as that lookup’s observation, not proof that every website will identify your location the same way.
A VPN routes your traffic through its selected exit server, so online services see the server’s public-facing IP address rather than your usual one. The connection between your device and the VPN server is encrypted, according to provider descriptions. The setup instructions below come from the providers’ own pages; they do not independently verify performance or privacy.

The counts are not comparable measures of speed, reliability, privacy, or capacity. They are provider statements that can change; a larger count alone does not identify the better VPN.
What a Japanese IP address does—and does not—prove
A Japan VPN location can give your connection a public-facing IP associated with the VPN’s Japanese exit server. That does not guarantee access to a particular streaming catalog, website, or other region-restricted service. Services may detect or block VPN connections, and availability can vary. The cited provider pages document location selection, not successful access tests for specific services.

If you need a particular service, verify it directly on the date you plan to use it. A result from an IP lookup can help confirm the apparent IP location, but it cannot establish that a separate service will accept the connection.
What a real three-VPN comparison would need
The provider pages support a comparison of documented city choices and setup steps, but not a performance winner or a claim that these VPNs were tested. A meaningful head-to-head comparison would disclose the test date and location, device and network, VPN protocol, server-selection method, and repeated latency and download/upload measurements. It should also report connection stability, leak-check results, the scope and date of any privacy or security evidence, and whether the exact target service worked during testing.
