How to Get a Flutter App Through Apple App Review

A practical guide to Apple App Review for Flutter apps: prepare a complete review packet, submit the intended build, and address rejections.

To get a Flutter app through Apple App Review, prepare the app and its review information in App Store Connect, make every important feature usable by reviewers, select the correct build, then complete both Add for Review and Submit for Review. Apple’s cited guidance describes the general App Store review process, not a separate Flutter review lane; approval depends on the app’s actual features, business model, claims, and distribution regions.

Prepare the app and its review information

Before submitting, check the submitted build against Apple’s App Review Guidelines. There is no universal checklist that guarantees approval: the relevant requirements depend on what the app does, who it serves, how it earns money, and where it will be available.

In App Store Connect’s App Review Information, give reviewers useful context about this specific build. Apple says incomplete submissions will be rejected. Include:

  • What the app does, who it is for, and how its key features work.
  • For a new app, its concept and business model; for an update, what changed and where to find important new features.
  • The device models and operating-system versions on which you tested it.
  • External services or platforms needed for core functionality, such as authentication, payment processing, data, or AI services.
  • Any differences between regions, or confirmation that content and features work consistently across them.

Disclosure gives reviewers context, but does not itself establish that the app complies with the rules.

Make gated features accessible to reviewers

If reviewers need an account or setup steps, provide them in App Review Information before submission. Credentials should still work when review begins. For multiple account types, supply access details for each and explain any required authentication codes or setup. For an app with auto-renewable subscriptions, Apple asks for a demo account with an expired subscription so reviewers can examine the purchase flow.

For sensitive information or a highly regulated service, Apple says a demonstration mode using demonstration data may be appropriate instead of a demo account. It should let reviewers inspect the app’s full features and functionality.

If the app requires external hardware, Apple asks for a video showing the app running on a physical Apple device while pairing and interacting with that hardware. The guidance specifies a video; it does not specify a screen recording.

Check whether the app needs category-specific documents

Some app functions, claims, or content require supporting documentation, and requirements may vary by country or region. Apple gives examples including regulatory clearance for medical diagnostic or treatment claims, licenses and partner documents for cryptocurrency exchanges, proof of partnership with a licensed financial institution for financial services, gambling or lottery licenses, and permission to use third-party intellectual property.

These examples do not apply to every app. Identify the documents relevant to the submitted app’s actual features, claims, content, and planned availability, and attach them where Apple requests them.

Submit the intended build in App Store Connect

  1. Open the app in App Store Connect and choose the version you want to submit.
  2. Complete the required metadata and select the build for that version. Check that it is the intended build.
  3. Select Add for Review, then choose a draft submission or create one. The item becomes Ready for Review; Apple has not received it for review yet.
  4. Open the draft submission and select Submit for Review. When review begins, the status changes to In Review.

If the submission contains additional items, Apple says all submitted items must be accepted for the submission to be complete.

Read App Store Connect statuses correctly

  • Ready for Review: Required metadata is present and the item is staged, but it has not been submitted to Apple.
  • Waiting for Review: Apple has received the submission but has not started reviewing it.
  • In Review: Apple is reviewing the submission.
  • Rejected: Apple did not accept the app or submission; read the issue notice for the reason.
  • Unresolved Issues: One or more items were rejected. Address and resubmit the rejected items, or remove them if you can proceed with accepted items.

Resolve a rejection by addressing the cited issue

Read the rejection message and identify the specific guideline or metadata problem. Reply through the App Review section in App Store Connect. Explain the change or clarify how the app works, and include screenshots or supporting documents when they help establish the point.

If the issue is metadata-only, Apple says you can correct the metadata and resubmit the same build. If the notice identifies missing account access, a test path, a setting, a hardware dependency, or a document, fix that access or evidence gap before resubmitting.

Appeal only when clarification has not resolved a disagreement

First respond to the rejection message with a clarification. If that does not resolve the issue and you believe the decision conflicts with the App Review Guidelines or Apple Developer Program License Agreement, you can file one appeal for the rejected or removed app. Name the specific requirement and explain point by point why the app meets it.

An appeal is not the route for requesting a status update or expedited review, or for answering a request for more information that can be handled in the review conversation. Apple says submitting a complete appeal does not guarantee that its decision will be reversed.

Apple’s guidance and its limits

Apple’s complete-review information guide states: “Incomplete submissions will be rejected.” The Apple help pages cited here were accessed on October 7, 2026. Requirements and App Store Connect labels can change, so check Apple’s current guidance for the build and distribution plan you are submitting.
