To generate a GST invoice PDF from a website with Html2Pdf.app, have your server send invoice HTML—or a URL the service can reach—to its PDF generation endpoint, then save or stream the returned PDF bytes. Keep the API key on the server. The resulting PDF is a rendering of the invoice; it does not, by itself, complete any applicable e-invoice registration or reporting.
Choose HTML input or a page URL
Html2Pdf.app documents two ways to provide content: raw HTML or a URL. Use raw HTML when your application builds invoice markup from private order and customer data. Use a URL when the rendering service can reach the page and its CSS, fonts, images, and other required resources.
For invoices, server-generated HTML is often the more direct approach: the backend can assemble the document without making a private invoice page publicly accessible. If you use a URL, ensure it is reachable by the service and that the page does not depend on a logged-in browser session unless the documented integration supports that access.
Make a synchronous PDF request from your backend
The documented endpoint is https://api.html2pdf.app/v1/generate. Send a JSON POST with the HTML in the request and your API key in the X-API-Key header. A successful synchronous response contains PDF binary data. Check the HTTP status before treating the response body as a PDF.

Include the applicable GST invoice particulars
For India, Rule 46 of the CGST Rules sets out particulars for tax invoices. Configure the template for the taxpayer, recipient, supply, and any applicable conditions; a generic template should not be treated as legal advice. CBIC’s CGST Rules and the CGST Act, Section 31 are the primary references to review, including current amendments.
- Supplier name, address, and GSTIN.
- A consecutive serial number unique for the financial year and the issue date.
- Recipient details as applicable, including recipient name, address, and GSTIN or other prescribed identification particulars where required.
- HSN code for goods or accounting code for services, plus a description of the goods or services.
- For goods, quantity and unit or unit-of-measure details.
- Total value and taxable value of the supply.
- Applicable tax rates and tax amounts.
- Conditional particulars where applicable, including place of supply, delivery address, whether tax is payable on reverse charge, and supplier signature.
Which recipient particulars, conditional fields, and exceptions apply depends on the transaction and the taxpayer. Confirm the current rule text and amendments rather than assuming every invoice uses the same field set.

Keep PDF generation separate from e-invoice reporting
Rendering an invoice as a PDF is a document-generation step. It does not establish that invoice details were registered or reported through an Invoice Registration Portal (IRP), or that an IRN was obtained where the applicable rules require one. The GSTN-hosted 2025 e-invoice brochure describes IRP functionality and reporting of applicable invoice details in a notified format. Check current official rules to determine whether e-invoicing applies to your taxpayer and transaction; the PDF-generation request alone cannot answer that question.
Use an asynchronous callback for queued jobs
Html2Pdf.app also documents an asynchronous flow using callBackUrl. In its example, the initial request returns HTTP 202 when the job has been accepted. That means the job is queued, not that the response body contains the finished PDF. The callback later delivers the document payload to the endpoint you supplied.

Use this pattern when your application wants to hand off generation and process the result later. Your callback handler should be designed to receive and store the returned document securely. The documentation does not establish a universal latency threshold at which every application should switch from synchronous to asynchronous generation, so choose based on your own request flow and processing needs.

HTML that looks correct in a browser can render differently as a PDF. Html2Pdf.app’s documentation notes that CSS media selection, fonts and other resources, and JavaScript load timing can affect the output. Its cURL guidance recommends checking that the page URL and its CSS, fonts, and images are accessible when a document is blank or missing styles.

- Review the PDF itself, not just the source HTML, using representative invoices with realistic text lengths, line items, tax breakdowns, and recipient details.
- Check page breaks, totals, signatures, and whether important fields remain legible and together where needed.
- For URL-based input, confirm that every required stylesheet, font, and image can be fetched by the rendering service.
- If JavaScript populates the invoice, verify the documented rendering and timing options and confirm the content is present before capture.
- Recheck representative documents when you change the template, CSS, fonts, or invoice-data logic.
Troubleshoot common output and request failures
- The request is rejected: confirm you are sending a JSON POST to the documented endpoint, include the
X-API-Keyheader, and check the HTTP status and request format against the current API documentation. - The saved file is not a valid PDF: do not save every response body as a document blindly. Check the HTTP status first and handle an error response separately from successful PDF bytes.
- The PDF is blank or missing styles: for URL input, check that the page and its CSS, fonts, and images are reachable. For HTML input, inspect whether the required markup and resource references are included and accessible.
- Invoice content populated by JavaScript is missing: review script timing and the documented wait or rendering options so the content is ready before conversion.
- A callback request returns HTTP 202: treat it as acceptance of a queued job, not a completed PDF. Wait for the callback at the supplied endpoint and handle the delivered payload there.
- The PDF appears complete but an IRN or reporting step is absent: PDF rendering does not perform or prove IRP reporting. Handle any applicable e-invoice workflow separately and verify the current rules.

No. PDF rendering and any applicable IRP registration or reporting are separate workflows.

Can I use a private invoice page as the conversion URL?
The rendering service must be able to reach a URL and its resources. For private invoice data, server-generated HTML may avoid exposing a page publicly; follow the API documentation for supported access methods.
