How to Gate AI-Generated Videos Before Fintech Publication

An asynchronous moderation job is not an approval. Keep generated video private until the asset is ready, results are resolved under policy, and distribution is explicitly authorized.

Keep an AI-generated video private until its media is ready, moderation has completed, and your publishing policy has explicitly approved it. An asynchronous moderation job reports its result later, so a successful upload or job submission is not permission to publish. Treat the workflow as a state machine with a fail-safe hold for pending, failed, ambiguous, or review-required results.

Why moderation should run asynchronously

Video processing and moderation may take longer than the request that starts them. In an asynchronous design, the moderation service accepts a job and returns before the analysis is finished; the publisher receives the result later through a callback or retrieves it separately. Mux describes its moderation request as returning a pending job with no results, while Alibaba Cloud documents asynchronous moderation with callback or polling options.

This separation lets the publishing application continue working without treating an unfinished analysis as a decision. It also means the application—not the moderation provider—must own the rule that controls public distribution.

Model publication as explicit states

Use states that distinguish asset processing, moderation, review, and distribution. One workable set is:

  • private_pending_asset: the asset exists but is not ready for analysis.
  • private_pending_moderation: a moderation job is running and no decision is available.
  • review_required: the result needs an authorized human decision.
  • blocked: policy does not permit publication.
  • approved_private: the policy permits publication, but distribution has not yet been enabled.
  • published: the application has enabled the approved distribution path.

These are implementation recommendations, not states required by the providers. Keep error and timeout conditions explicit too; neither should silently become approval.

For each asset, retain its asset ID, moderation job ID, current state, policy version, result reference, relevant timestamps, and any reviewer decision. For governance, also record the generated version, provider and model/version when available, thresholds, webhook receipt and processing times, reviewer rationale, final publication state, and any withdrawal. This history helps explain why a video was released, held, or later removed.

Build the gate from asset readiness to publication

  1. Create or ingest the video privately. Disable public playback or distribution at creation. FastPix documents a workflow that keeps playback private until a moderation decision is applied; the exact controls are specific to that service. FastPix’s private-playback guidance
  2. Wait until the media is ready for analysis. An upload response may only confirm that the upload was accepted. FastPix instructs customers to wait for its video.media.ready event before starting moderation. That event name and behavior are specific to its API.
  3. Submit the moderation job and persist its identifier. Mark the video private_pending_moderation as soon as the application accepts the job, and retain the job ID so the later result can be matched to the right asset. The provider’s immediate response may contain only a pending status, not findings. Mux’s asynchronous moderation guide and Alibaba Cloud’s video moderation documentation describe asynchronous patterns.
  4. Receive or retrieve the result reliably. Use a completion webhook when the provider offers one, validate incoming events, and make event processing idempotent so duplicate delivery cannot create conflicting decisions. Keep a polling or reconciliation path to find jobs whose callback was missed. Webhook names, retry behavior, and result retrieval contracts vary by service; FastPix documents a moderation-ready webhook, while the other integrations must be checked against their current API documentation.
  5. Map findings to your own policy. Apply an explicit outcome such as pass, review, or block. Set a deadline for pending work; if it expires, keep the asset private and route it to review rather than assuming the analysis passed. FastPix describes timeout handling and human-review escalation in its documented workflow.
  6. Enable distribution only after approval. Transition first to an approved-but-private state if approval and publication are separate operations. Then enable public playback or distribution through the application. If an already published video later needs to be withdrawn, FastPix documents deleting its playback ID while retaining the media and moderation history; that recovery behavior is product-specific.

Keep failure and uncertainty on the private side

A completed job is not automatically a publication approval. The moderation service supplies findings; the publisher applies its policy. At minimum, handle these outcomes separately:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Pass: the findings meet the applicable policy, so an authorized publishing action may proceed.
  • Review: an authorized reviewer examines the video and available findings, then records a decision and rationale.
  • Block: the video remains unavailable for public distribution.
  • Provider error, timeout, or incomplete analysis: hold the video and retry, reconcile, or escalate according to an operational policy.
  • Callback failure or duplicate event: reconcile job state against the provider and process the event safely without releasing the asset by default.

Give reviewers the video, relevant timestamps or segments when available, moderation findings, and the policy context. Provide a way to record an override and its rationale. Microsoft’s AI Services Code of Conduct calls for human oversight and review before external display, transmission, or distribution of AI-generated video unless its stated alternative measures and other requirements are met. That is guidance for Microsoft’s services, not a universal legal rule. Microsoft AI Services Code of Conduct

Choose moderation coverage that matches the risk

Do not assume every service examines the same parts of a video or produces findings at the same level of detail. The documented examples below illustrate different integration patterns, not a ranking or a claim that their coverage is interchangeable.

When selecting or configuring a service, verify when analysis can start, which modalities and languages it supports, how granular results are, how completion and retries work, what throughput and latency limits apply, where data is processed, what review and audit tools exist, and how public playback stays disabled during the job.

Set thresholds for your content, not by imitation

A threshold is part of a policy choice, not a universal safety setting. Mux documents configurable sexual and violence thresholds and notes that lower thresholds can flag milder content for human review. Calibrate settings against your own material and documented risk tolerance; monitor false positives and false negatives rather than assuming a threshold transfers cleanly to another vendor or use case. Do not confuse content moderation with financial due diligence

Video moderation can identify selected content risks. It does not establish that a speaker is authentic, that an investment claim is true, or that a publication complies with applicable law. Those questions need separate identity, authorization, editorial, and financial-claims controls.

In March 2024, SEC Chair Gary Gensler said that AI washing by financial intermediaries or public companies raising money may violate securities laws. In October 2024, he said fraud remains fraud when AI is involved and that people deploying models should put appropriate guardrails in place. These are statements by the SEC chair, not a complete compliance checklist or a determination of which requirements apply to a particular publisher. March 18, 2024 remarks; October 10, 2024 remarks

Labels and provenance information can help viewers understand that a video is synthetic, but should not be treated as proof of identity or truth. The FTC notes that watermarks can be altered or removed and may not reliably distinguish real from synthetic content in some cases. FTC discussion of approaches to AI-enabled voice cloning
