Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTo free up storage on a Google TV Streamer without removing apps, clear cached data: open Profile icon → Settings → System → Storage → Internal shared storage → Cached data, then confirm with OK. Google says this removes temporary data and leaves you signed in. It does not establish that the step will recover 5 GB on your device; that figure requires a verified before-and-after measurement.
What clearing the cache does—and what it does not prove
Google describes app cache as temporary data. Its support page says: “Clearing your app cache only removes temporary data. You’ll remain signed in to your apps, and media will load faster.” See Google’s storage instructions for Chromecast with Google TV and Google TV Streamer.

Clearing cached data is therefore the documented option that fits a no-uninstall goal. It is not a guaranteed way to recover a particular amount: the amount of cache present can vary, and Google’s documentation does not report a 5 GB recovery result. The 5 GB in the original claim should be treated as an individual result only if supported by that device’s before-and-after free-space readings and confirmed steps.

- From the Google TV home screen, select your profile icon.
- Open Settings → System → Storage → Internal shared storage.
- Select Cached data and confirm with OK.
Google’s instructions describe this as clearing app caches. It removes temporary data, not the apps themselves; according to Google, you remain signed in. Some temporary content may be generated again as apps are used.

- Watch live TV and access over 800 free channels from Pluto TV, Tubi, and more[3]; if you find an interesting show or movie on your TV, mobile app, or Google search, you can easily add it to your watchlist, so it’s ready when you are[2]

Check whether storage actually increased
To measure the result on your own device, note the available storage shown under Settings → System → Storage → Internal shared storage before clearing cached data, then check it again in the same place afterward. Keep the two readings and the action taken together if you want to report an exact amount recovered. A result from one Streamer should not be presented as a guaranteed result for every unit.
Cache clearing versus uninstalling apps
| Google’s documented action | Removes apps? | What it targets | Fits a no-uninstall goal? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clear cached data | No | Temporary app data, according to Google | Yes |
| Uninstall unused apps | Yes | Apps the owner chooses to remove | No |
Google lists uninstalling unused apps as a separate storage option. Its route is Profile icon → Settings → Apps → See all apps → choose an app → Uninstall → OK. Use that option only if you are willing to remove an app; it is not part of the cache-clearing method.
