Press and hold the Oculus Go’s Power button for at least 10 seconds. If it remains unresponsive, keep holding for up to 30 seconds, then release when the Oculus logo, startup sound or home environment appears. This force reboot is designed to restart the operating system; it is not a factory reset and should not erase installed content or settings.
Before forcing a reboot
Do these quick checks first, especially if the display is black or the headset shows no sign of life:

- Remove external battery packs, USB accessories and other unsupported devices. Meta troubleshooting guidance identifies accessories as a possible cause of startup problems: Meta community startup guidance.
- Connect the Go to a wall outlet with its original charger or a known-good compatible charger and cable. A computer USB port may provide insufficient power for a deeply discharged headset.
- Inspect the charging connector for visible debris or damage. Do not probe the port with a metal object.
- If the battery may be empty, leave the headset charging for a meaningful period before trying the buttons again.
- If the headset may simply be asleep, remove it and press Power normally once before using the longer hold.
Force-restart the Oculus Go
First attempt: hold Power for 10 seconds
- Disconnect accessories and leave the headset connected to a charger if the battery is low.
- Press and hold the physical Power button for at least 10 seconds. The 10-second restart instruction appears in the Oculus Go getting-started guide: Oculus Go guide (PDF).
- Release the button when the Oculus logo or another clear restart indication appears.
- Wait for the normal home environment to load. A boot sound or return to the usual view also indicates that the restart took effect.
Extended attempt: hold Power for up to 30 seconds
If a 10-second hold produces no response, keep holding the button for as long as 30 seconds before releasing it. Meta community troubleshooting and legacy Oculus reports describe this longer hold for a Go that will not respond normally: corruption-warning troubleshooting. This is an extended troubleshooting attempt, not a guarantee that a damaged headset will recover.

If the force reboot does not work: open the boot menu
When the Power hold fails, use the Go’s recovery/boot screen. This procedure is separate from a factory reset.

- Turn the headset off if it will respond; otherwise continue from its unresponsive state.
- Press and hold Power and Volume Down simultaneously. Do not press them one after the other.
- Keep both buttons held until the boot screen appears.
- Use the volume buttons to highlight Boot Device.
- Press Power to select it. If a confirmation screen appears, highlight the clearly labeled confirmation choice (usually Yes) and press Power.
Boot Device attempts a normal startup without intentionally erasing the headset. The button combination and menu navigation are documented in Meta’s Oculus Go startup troubleshooting: startup-logo troubleshooting.
Fixes for specific symptoms
Frozen image or application crash
Use the 10-second Power hold, extending it to 30 seconds if necessary. A force reboot interrupts the current operating state; it does not repair every underlying software or hardware fault.

Black screen
A black display can mean the Go is asleep, powered off, deeply discharged, frozen, or running with a display or hardware fault. Charge it from a wall outlet, try a known-good cable and adapter, disconnect accessories, and repeat the 10- to 30-second Power hold. If there is still no image, try Power + Volume Down to see whether the boot screen appears. Avoid treating a black screen alone as proof that the display has failed.
Stuck on the Oculus logo or spinning startup animation
- Hold Power for 10 seconds.
- If it remains on the logo, continue the hold for up to 30 seconds.
- Open the boot menu with Power + Volume Down.
- Select Boot Device and allow the headset to try a normal startup.
- Consider a factory reset only after these non-destructive steps fail.
No light, sound or boot screen
After testing the charger and cable, charge the headset longer, remove all accessories, repeat the extended Power hold and try the boot-menu combination. If it remains completely inert, a failed battery, charging port, power button or main board is more likely than a temporary software freeze.

“Your device is corrupt; it cannot be trusted and will not boot”
This warning points to a startup or system-integrity problem rather than a single locked application. Try the extended Power hold first. If the warning returns, use the boot menu and select Boot Device. Community reports document some Go units restarting after approximately 30 seconds, but that outcome is not assured: Meta community corruption report. Persistent failure may require a reset or indicate deeper software or hardware damage.
Factory reset: last software resort
A factory reset is not a force reboot. It erases local device data and returns the Oculus Go to its initial setup state. Use it only after charging, accessory removal, the 10- to 30-second Power hold and the Boot Device option have all failed. Make sure you can sign in to the account needed for setup again.

- Power the Go off if possible.
- Press and hold Power + Volume Down until the boot screen appears.
- Use the volume buttons to highlight Factory Reset.
- Press Power.
- Highlight the clearly labeled confirmation option and press Power again. The exact wording can vary by firmware version.
- Complete headset setup from the beginning after the reset finishes.
The reset sequence is reproduced in Meta’s Oculus Go troubleshooting archive: factory-reset instructions. Do not select Factory Reset merely because the boot menu is visible; choose Boot Device first when you want to preserve local data.
When the problem is probably hardware
Stop repeating software resets and investigate repair or replacement when any of these conditions apply:
- The headset shows no charging response after you have tested a known-good wall charger and cable.
- The charging port, casing or buttons are visibly damaged, or the battery is swollen or the headset overheats.
- Power held for 30 seconds never produces a logo, sound or other response.
- The correct Power + Volume Down combination never opens the boot screen.
- The headset remains in a boot loop even after a factory reset.
A force reboot cannot restore a failed battery, damaged charging circuitry, broken display or defective main board. The Oculus Go is legacy hardware, and current Meta support pages may describe newer Quest models instead; do not assume Quest 2, Quest 3 or Quest 3S instructions apply to the Go. Repair availability for Oculus Go is not established here, so check current local options and the condition, battery health and account compatibility of any used replacement before buying.
