What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Start by separating a tracking or connection problem from a button problem. If the pointer lags, skips, or stops moving, check receiver placement, power, and the sensor before assuming the mouse is defective. If pointer movement is reliable but clicks fail, general tracking fixes may not solve it; the switch or another part of the mouse may need model-specific support.
Identify what is failing
- Delayed, choppy, or missing pointer movement: The wireless link, receiver connection, battery, sensor, or surface may be involved.
- Pointer moves normally, but clicks do not register: Focus on whether the problem affects one button or several. If it persists after basic checks, contact the manufacturer for your exact model; troubleshooting cursor tracking cannot diagnose a physical switch fault.
- Movement and clicks both fail: Begin with the receiver connection and battery, then test the mouse on another computer to help isolate the cause.
Fix lag or stutter in a useful order
1. Move the receiver closer and away from interference
For a 2.4 GHz mouse, put its receiver near the mouse and away from routers, other 2.4 GHz wireless sources, and USB 3.0 devices or cables. Temporarily disconnect nearby wireless devices and see whether the behavior changes. Razer says USB 3.0 noise can reach the 2.4–2.5 GHz range and affect wireless throughput, with delayed input and missing commands among the possible symptoms.

Logitech recommends keeping the receiver within 20 cm of the mouse and at least 2 meters from routers and other 2.4 GHz devices. These are manufacturer recommendations, not universal performance thresholds; follow the guidance for your specific mouse and setup.

Connect the receiver directly to a working computer USB port rather than an unsupported hub, dock, KVM, or switch. If it is plugged into a rear port, try a front port or reposition it so the computer case and nearby equipment do not obstruct it. A standard USB extension cable can help place the receiver closer to the mouse and farther from USB 3.0 devices. Check that the cable and port connector are compatible with your receiver.

3. Charge or replace the battery
Recharge the mouse or replace its batteries, depending on its power source. Low or depleted power can contribute to movement or connection problems, so rule it out before spending time on more involved troubleshooting.
4. Check the sensor and surface
Carefully clean the sensor lens and test the mouse on a suitable, non-metal surface. If the mouse supports surface tuning, use its manufacturer-provided feature according to the model’s instructions. A dirty sensor or unsuitable tracking conditions can cause erratic or skipped movement even when the wireless link is not the problem.

5. Check software and test another computer
Check whether operating-system updates are running in the background. Look up your exact mouse on the manufacturer’s support page and install firmware only if an update is offered for that device. If the manufacturer provides pairing instructions for your model, unpair and pair the mouse again using those steps.

If the issue disappears, the original computer, its USB connection, or its software environment may be involved. If it follows the mouse, that is useful information for the manufacturer’s support team, though it does not by itself identify a failed component.
