If Wikipedia will not load in Chrome, first check the address and reload, then see whether other sites work. Compare the page in Incognito and another browser to narrow down whether the cause is a Chrome extension or stored data, your connection, or the website. Use Chrome’s exact error message to choose the next step rather than changing settings at random.
1. Check the address and whether other sites load

If several sites fail, check that your computer is connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data and that the connection works. Google lists device settings, security software, network equipment, browser cookies and extensions, memory use, and website downtime as possible causes of Chrome loading problems. 2. Compare Incognito and another browser
Try an Incognito window
Open the same Wikipedia page in a Chrome Incognito window. If it loads there but not in a regular window, an extension or stored browsing data may be interfering. Incognito is a diagnostic comparison, not proof of one particular cause.
Test extensions
In regular Chrome, open chrome://extensions and switch extensions off. Reload Wikipedia. If that fixes the problem, turn extensions back on one at a time, testing the page after each change, until the issue returns. The last extension enabled is a likely culprit.

Try another browser
Open the same page in a different browser. If it fails there too, the cause may be the network or the website rather than Chrome. Google recommends restarting the modem and router for a persistent broader connection problem; if the problem remains specific to a site, contact its owner. For a server-address lookup error, check Secure DNS
In Chrome, open Settings > Privacy and security > Security > Use secure DNS. If you selected a custom provider, try the automatic setting or temporarily turn Secure DNS off as a diagnostic step, then retry Wikipedia. Google says automatic mode can fall back to an unencrypted lookup when it has trouble; a custom provider does not. Managed devices and parental controls may restrict this setting. 4. Check security software and device resources
If the problem affects several sites, check whether firewall or antivirus software is blocking the connection. Do not disable protection indefinitely: if you temporarily change a setting to test, restore it afterward. Close unused tabs and apps and pause downloads if the device may be short on memory. Restart Chrome or the computer to see whether a temporary process issue is responsible. Google includes these checks in its connection and loading troubleshooting guidance.

5. Clear browsing data if Incognito works
If Wikipedia loads in Incognito but not in a regular window, clearing cookies and cached files can help when stored site data is involved. In Chrome, open Settings > Privacy and security > Delete browsing data, choose the relevant time range, select cookies and other site data and cached images and files, then confirm deletion. This removes stored site data; expect to sign in again on sites whose cookies were deleted.

6. Reset Chrome only after simpler checks
If the address, connection, extensions, browsing data, error-specific checks, and security software do not explain the problem, restore Chrome’s settings to their original defaults. Open Settings > Reset settings > Restore settings to their original defaults and confirm. Google says this changes settings including content settings, cookies and site data, extensions, and themes, but does not delete or change saved bookmarks and passwords. Review the settings changes before resetting if you rely on customized browser preferences. Google Chrome Help: Reset Chrome settings to default.

7. Consider a Wikipedia outage only after local checks
A website can be temporarily unavailable, but the troubleshooting guidance above does not establish Wikipedia’s live status. If the page fails in multiple browsers while other sites work, check an authoritative Wikimedia status source before concluding there is an outage. If the evidence points to a site-side problem, wait and retry rather than repeatedly changing Chrome settings.
