Claude Code can inspect a running web page through the Claude in Chrome extension, help identify a visual mismatch, and revisit the page after a code change. Use it as an observe–edit–verify loop—not as a guarantee of pixel-perfect matching. Anthropic documents design verification against a Figma mock and checking for visual regressions as supported workflows, but publishes no accuracy rate or controlled visual-fix benchmark. Anthropic’s Claude Code with Chrome documentation describes the integration and its current requirements.
What you need before connecting Claude Code to Chrome
Anthropic’s documentation, accessed October 4, 2026, lists these prerequisites. Because product requirements can change, check the linked documentation if a label or requirement differs in your setup.

- Claude Code, used from the CLI or VS Code.
- The Claude in Chrome extension, version 1.0.36 or later.
- A direct Anthropic plan and authentication through
/login. - Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or another Chromium-based browser such as Brave, Arc, Vivaldi, or Opera.
Authentication with an API key or a long-lived token created by claude setup-token does not enable the Chrome integration described in the documentation. Access through a third-party provider also does not provide this integration. WSL is not supported for this workflow.

Connect Claude Code to the browser
From the CLI
- Start your Chromium-based browser and make sure the Claude in Chrome extension is installed and enabled.
- Authenticate Claude Code with
/loginusing a direct Anthropic plan. - Launch Claude Code with
claude --chrome. On first connection, follow the integration introduction and respond to site-permission prompts. - Use
/chrometo check the connection, manage permissions, reconnect, or select a browser.
From VS Code
In VS Code, use @browser to connect when Chrome is not enabled by default. Browser access remains subject to extension site permissions and any prompts shown during the session.

Use an inspect–edit–verify loop
Be specific about the page, the intended design, and what looks wrong. A request such as “the logo is too low” leaves more room for guesswork than “the logo should align vertically with the navigation labels in the header.” If you have a design reference, supply it; Anthropic explicitly describes opening a page to check it against a Figma mock.
- Run the page. Start the local app and identify the URL or page Claude should inspect. Describe the mismatch and the area of the interface involved.
- Inspect the rendered UI. Ask Claude Code to open the page and examine the relevant area. If comparing against a design, provide the mock and ask it to assess the specific relationship, such as header alignment or spacing.
- Check evidence that helps explain the mismatch. Ask it to inspect relevant DOM state and console output. Narrow console requests to errors or patterns related to the affected UI rather than asking for an indiscriminate dump of logs.
- Make a focused correction. Ask for a proposed code change or have Claude Code make one, keeping the change tied to the observed discrepancy.
- Reopen and check the affected UI. Ask Claude Code to revisit the page and assess the changed area. This verifies the rendered result in the inspected state; it does not establish that every viewport, browser state, or interaction is correct.
- Save a review artifact if useful. Claude Code can save a screenshot to disk. Inspect it for private information before sharing or publishing it.
What this workflow can—and cannot—establish
The browser integration lets Claude Code interact with a live page, inspect console output and DOM state, check for visual regressions, and save a screenshot. That makes it useful for iterative frontend work, especially when a developer needs to compare a rendered page with a provided reference. It does not amount to a published pixel-difference test, guarantee that every defect will be found, or provide a measured success rate. Treat the browser view as evidence for the particular page state you inspected, not proof of universal visual correctness.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Permissions and sensitive browser content
The integration shares the browser’s existing login state and opens new tabs for browser tasks. If Claude encounters a login page or CAPTCHA, the documented behavior is to pause and ask you to handle it manually. Site access is governed by extension permissions, and browser actions may trigger permission prompts.

Troubleshoot a missing or unresponsive connection
- Extension not detected: Open
chrome://extensionsand confirm Claude in Chrome is installed and enabled. Update Claude Code, ensure the browser is running, then use/chrometo reconnect. - First connection still fails: Restart the browser so it can read the native messaging host configuration, then try the connection again.
- Browser appears stuck: Check for an open JavaScript alert, confirm, or prompt dialog that may be blocking interaction. Try a new tab or restart the extension.
- Connection dropped after inactivity: Run
/chromeand choose “Reconnect extension.”
