The control is client-, account-, version- and region-dependent. The most reliable check is to sign in to the same account in official Telegram Web or Telegram Desktop, then open Settings → Privacy and Security → Sensitive content.
The quickest fix: use Telegram Web or Desktop
Open the official Telegram Web client or download Telegram Desktop. Sign in with the same phone-number account that cannot view the content, then follow this path:

- Open Settings.
- Select Privacy and Security.
- Find Sensitive content.
- Enable Disable filtering or Show 18+ Content.
- Close and reopen Telegram on your phone, then test the original public channel.
Telegram’s current Web translation catalog uses the labels Sensitive content, Disable filtering and Show 18+ Content. It describes the preference as displaying sensitive media in public channels across your Telegram devices (Telegram translation strings). The account preference can sync across devices, but each client may separately be permitted—or not permitted—to change it. Telegram represents that permission with sensitive_can_change in its account content-settings model (Telegram API documentation).
What the setting may be called
- Sensitive content
- Disable filtering or Disable sensitive content filter
- Show 18+ Content
- Sensitive media
The exact wording changes between clients, translations and releases. Search the Privacy and Security settings for any of these terms rather than relying on one label.

iPhone and iPad: check the exception, then use Web or Desktop
Some iOS builds and accounts do not expose the control in the mobile app. Telegram’s issue tracker documented a case where the option was unavailable in mobile clients (Telegram issue 19061).
However, a later Telegram administrator referred to an 18+ control for some iOS users under Settings → Data and Storage (Telegram issue 52619). Check that location once. If it is absent, do not assume the installation is broken: sign in through official Web or Desktop instead.
Android: availability varies by build and account
Android does not guarantee that every app build will show the option. Distribution channel, app version, account eligibility and region can all affect the settings exposed. Check the mobile app, but use official Web or Desktop as the primary troubleshooting route. Do not install modified APKs to obtain a setting that Telegram has not made available to the account.

Try the clients in this order
- Refresh or reopen the current official Telegram Web client and sign in again.
- Use a desktop browser rather than an in-app browser.
- Try another supported browser or a private/incognito window.
- If the toggle will not save in WebK, try WebA when it is offered, or use Telegram Desktop. Telegram recorded a WebK save problem and suggested WebA as a workaround; the WebK issue was marked fixed in version 2.2.0.581 (Telegram issue 52619).
- Update Telegram Web, Desktop and the mobile app through their normal official update mechanisms.
Remove browser-side obstacles
- Sign out and back in to refresh the account session.
- Temporarily disable extensions that block scripts, cookies or permission prompts.
- Allow camera permission only on the official Telegram site if Telegram genuinely requests age verification.
- If verification stalls after permission is granted, try another browser, reduce strict tracking protection temporarily, and retry.
Do not treat a visible toggle as saved until you leave the page, return to the setting and confirm its state.
Why the option can be missing everywhere
Telegram’s issue tracker says the control is shown only “when applicable” (Telegram issue 8820). If Web, Desktop and mobile all omit it, the likely explanations are:
- The current client does not expose the control.
- The account is not eligible to change sensitive-content settings.
- Telegram applies a restriction based on the country associated with the account’s phone number. The official reports do not provide a stable public list of affected countries (Telegram issue 20464).
- The client is outdated or affected by a version-specific bug.
- The account is subject to an age or regional rule.
A VPN changes the apparent network location, but it is not a dependable fix for an eligibility rule tied to the registered phone-number country. Installing Desktop may reveal a setting that a mobile client hides, but it cannot guarantee that the account is permitted to change it.
When disabling filtering does not unblock a channel
The setting applies to sensitive media in public channels where Telegram allows it. It does not restore content that is:
- Deleted, private or invite-only
- Unavailable because you have not joined the channel
- Blocked by an age, legal or jurisdictional rule
- Restricted on the account for another reason
- Reached through an invalid or expired link
Compare the same link in Web and on the phone. Check whether Telegram displays an explicit sensitive-content or age-verification message, and test another public channel marked 18+. “This group/channel cannot be displayed” is a broad message, not proof that filtering is the cause.
What not to do
- Do not give Telegram login codes or passwords to an “unlock” website.
- Do not rely on unofficial clients or modified APKs; they add privacy, security and compatibility risks and are not established official solutions.
- Do not buy Telegram Premium solely to obtain this control. The official material cited here does not identify Premium as a requirement.
- Do not change the account’s phone number merely to force the option to appear.
- Do not assume a VPN bypasses an account-level or country-based eligibility decision.
When to contact Telegram
If the same eligible account lacks the setting in official Web, Desktop and the current mobile app, or if age verification repeatedly fails, report the behavior through Telegram’s official support channels. Include the client name, operating system, app or Web version, account phone-number country, exact settings path checked and the wording of any error. Support may investigate a client defect, but there is no documented user-side switch that can force an inapplicable control to appear.

Why is “Disable filtering” missing on iPhone?
