The “Invalid form data” message appears in Killing Floor 2’s WebAdmin sign-in process. It usually indicates a WebAdmin configuration, credential-source, browser-session, or server-readiness problem—not an error in an active match. Work through the checks in this order: confirm WebAdmin is enabled, turn on HTTP authentication, verify which file or launch argument supplies the password, retry with a clean browser session, and only then investigate the WebAdmin port.
Stop the server before editing its configuration files, save a backup of each file, and restart fully after every configuration change. The procedures below reflect a 2023 Steam Community guide, player reports from 2019–2022, and hosting documentation accessed October 15, 2026; menu names and file paths are for the standard KF2 dedicated-server layout.

What “Invalid form data” means in KF2
WebAdmin is the browser-based administration panel for a dedicated Killing Floor 2 server. The error is shown while that panel processes a login form. A server can therefore run games normally while rejecting WebAdmin authentication. Treat the message as an administration-interface problem first.

The available evidence consists of configuration instructions and dated community reports. Those reports point to four practical causes: WebAdmin is disabled, HTTP authentication is configured in a way the login flow does not accept, the server is using a different password than the one you are entering, or the browser is sending stale or altered session data.

Do not start by changing gameplay settings, reinstalling the server, or resetting player profiles. None of those actions addresses the WebAdmin form itself.
Do these non-invasive checks first
Wait for the dedicated server to finish starting
Open the server console or its startup log and wait until initialization has completed. The Steam setup guide associated with this issue describes successful startup output including “Initializing game engine completed” and a Steam game-server UID. A login attempted while the WebAdmin process is still starting can fail even when the eventual credentials are correct.
If the process is still printing startup messages, let it finish before changing a password. Restarting repeatedly during initialization can make it harder to tell whether a configuration edit was loaded.

The cited KF2 setup uses TCP port 8080 for WebAdmin. Use the address and port configured for your server, commonly an address in the form http://server-address:8080. A timeout or connection-refused message is a reachability problem; “Invalid form data” means the WebAdmin page was reached and the failure occurred during form processing.
Make sure you are testing the dedicated server’s address rather than a game client’s local address. If a host has assigned a different external port, use that assigned port instead of assuming 8080.
Try another browser before editing files
Browser choice is the quickest reversible test. In a 2019 Steam bug report, the author added, “EDIT: TRY THIS FIRST: CHANGE YOUR BROWSER.” The author later reported successful access after switching browsers, and a later commenter said Chromium on Linux failed while Firefox worked. This does not prove a browser defect in every installation, but it makes a second browser a sensible first branch.

Open the same WebAdmin address in a browser you have not used for this server. If the login works there, the server-side settings may already be correct; continue with the browser cleanup section below rather than changing credentials unnecessarily.

Step 1: Enable WebAdmin in KFWeb.ini
WebAdmin cannot accept a login when its service is disabled. Pingperfect’s KF2 instructions specify this sequence:
- Stop the dedicated server completely.
- Open
KFGame/Config/KFWeb.iniin a plain-text editor. - Find the WebAdmin enable setting and change
bEnabled=falsetobEnabled=true. If the line is already set totrue, leave it unchanged. - Save the file without changing its filename or extension.
- Start the server and wait for complete initialization.
- Open the WebAdmin address again and submit the credentials.
Do not edit a similarly named default or template file and assume the change will apply. The path above is the live configuration path identified by the hosting instructions. If your host exposes files through a control panel, navigate to the equivalent KFGame/Config directory rather than editing a local copy that is not uploaded to the server.
Step 2: Turn on HTTP authentication when the form still fails
If WebAdmin is enabled but the same form error remains, apply the targeted workaround documented in a Steam Community guide posted December 20, 2023:
- Stop the server.
- Open
KFGame/Config/KFWebAdmin.ini. - Locate
bHttpAuth=falseand change it tobHttpAuth=true. - Save the file and restart the server.
- Wait for initialization, then retry the login in a fresh browser tab.
The guide’s wording is explicit: “If you also get the error ‘Invalid form data.’ Go to .KFGameConfigKFWebAdmin.ini and change ‘bHttpAuth=’ from false to true and try again.” The setting is a workaround reported for this login flow, not a guarantee that every authentication failure has the same cause.

Keep the spelling, capitalization, and Boolean value exactly as shown. Do not add quotation marks around true, and do not place the setting in KFWeb.ini; the two files control different parts of the WebAdmin setup.

Step 3: Identify the password the server is actually using
A correct-looking password can still fail if it was entered in the wrong configuration file or overridden at launch. The Steam bug report and the setup guide identify two relevant sources.
| Credential source | What to check | How it affects the login |
|---|---|---|
PCServer-KFGame.ini |
Look under [Engine.AccessControl] for the server password and any AdminName value. |
This is the configuration location identified by the bug report for the effective server password. Keep the password and AdminName values consistent with what you enter. |
| Startup argument | Inspect the server’s launch parameters for adminpassword=. |
The cited guide says a startup adminpassword= argument can take priority over the password stored in the configuration file. |
DefaultGame.ini |
Do not rely on this file as proof of the live password. | The bug report specifically warns that using the value from DefaultGame.ini may not match the effective server credential. |
Use this order to remove ambiguity:
- Stop the server so it cannot overwrite files while you inspect them.
- Open
PCServer-KFGame.iniand check the section header[Engine.AccessControl]. - Record the password value and the AdminName value, keeping capitalization and punctuation exact.
- Inspect the service, batch file, panel, or script that launches the server for an
adminpassword=parameter. - If that parameter exists, treat it as the value the guide says can take precedence. Change it to the password you intend to use, or remove the conflicting parameter if your setup is meant to read the INI file.
- Save the authoritative value, restart the server, and test with that exact password.
Avoid copying a password through software that may add a trailing space or typographic quotation marks. Enter it manually once in the login form. Do not paste the password into a public chat or support ticket.
Step 4: Eliminate cookies, extensions, and browser-specific problems
If another browser succeeds, or if the server-side settings check out, isolate the original browser without changing the server again.
The Tool Desk

Open an incognito or private window, navigate directly to the WebAdmin address, and log in. A Steam commenter reported that incognito mode worked. That result suggests a stale cookie, cached form state, or extension interference, but it is a community workaround rather than a guaranteed fix.
Disable extensions for the WebAdmin address
Temporarily disable password managers, script blockers, ad blockers, and other extensions for the server address. Reload the page and enter the credentials manually. If the login succeeds, re-enable extensions one at a time to identify the one altering the form or session.
Clear only the affected site data
Delete cookies and cached data for the WebAdmin host rather than wiping every browser account. Close all tabs for that address, reopen the browser, and try again. Site-data controls differ by browser, so use the browser’s privacy or site-settings panel and select the specific server host.

Compare browsers and operating systems
Record which browser, operating system, and network produced each result. The reports include a Chromium-on-Linux failure with Firefox working, so a successful test in another browser is useful diagnostic evidence. It does not establish that Linux, Chromium, or Firefox is universally incompatible with KF2 WebAdmin.
Step 5: Restart in a controlled order and verify the result
Configuration changes are not useful until the server process has loaded them. Use this controlled restart:
- Stop the server and wait until its process exits.
- Confirm that the edited files are saved in the live
KFGame/Configdirectory. - Confirm the intended password source: the
[Engine.AccessControl]entry or the launch argument that overrides it. - Start the server once.
- Wait for “Initializing game engine completed” or the equivalent completed-startup indication and for the Steam game-server UID to appear in the log.
- Open WebAdmin in a private window or a second browser and test one login.
Make one server-side change at a time. If you enable WebAdmin, HTTP authentication, and a new password simultaneously, a successful login will not tell you which change fixed the issue, while a failure will leave more variables to unwind.
Step 6: Check reachability only after authentication settings are correct
When the page itself will not load, investigate connectivity separately from the form error. The cited setup uses TCP 8080 for WebAdmin; verify that your host has mapped the WebAdmin service to the port you are using and that the address is reachable from your network. A blocked or remapped port normally produces a timeout or connection error, not “Invalid form data.”
On managed servers, the provider may expose an external port different from the internal 8080 setting. Use the externally assigned address and port shown by that provider. On a self-hosted server, check the server’s configured WebAdmin port and the network policy that controls incoming TCP traffic. Do not open unrelated game ports merely because WebAdmin is unavailable.
Choose the least invasive next step
| Approach | Invasiveness | Persistence | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Different browser or private window | Lowest; no server changes | Session-level; may disappear when site data is cleared | First test when the page loads and the error appears during login |
| Remove extensions or site cookies | Low; affects browser data | Usually session or browser-profile level | When one browser fails but another works, or private mode succeeds |
Set bEnabled=true |
Moderate; edits a server INI file and requires restart | Survives restarts until changed | When WebAdmin may be disabled |
Set bHttpAuth=true |
Moderate; edits a server INI file and requires restart | Survives restarts until changed | When WebAdmin is enabled but the form is rejected |
| Align the effective password and launch arguments | Moderate; changes authentication credentials | Persists according to the authoritative file or startup configuration | When a known password is rejected or multiple credential sources exist |
| Ask a managed hosting provider to apply the checks | Low local effort, but dependent on the provider | Provider-managed configuration persists through their service | When you do not control the server files or network mapping |
Self-hosting gives you direct control over INI files, launch parameters, browser testing, and port mapping. Managed hosting can reduce local file and network work, but it introduces a recurring service relationship and may require the provider to confirm which configuration is authoritative. Whichever model you use, ask for the effective values rather than only asking for a password reset.

Failure branches and what they mean
The page does not open at all
Start with the address, external port, server process, and completed startup. Do not apply password changes until a WebAdmin page loads. The 8080 value is common in the cited setup, not proof that every installation exposes that port publicly.
The page opens, but every browser shows the same form error
Check KFWeb.ini, then KFWebAdmin.ini, and finally the effective password source. Restart after each edit. A consistent failure across browsers makes a browser-only explanation less likely.
One browser works and another fails
Keep the working browser as a temporary administration path. Clear site data and disable extensions in the failing browser, then test again. Do not rotate the server password solely because one browser rejects the form.
The password was changed, but the old behavior remains
Recheck the launch configuration for adminpassword= and verify that the edited file is PCServer-KFGame.ini, not only DefaultGame.ini. Stop and restart the server after correcting the authoritative value.
The error returns after a restart
Confirm that the INI changes were saved in the live server directory and that a control panel or startup script is not restoring older values. Compare the file after restart with the value you intended to load. If a managed provider controls the files, request confirmation of the effective bEnabled, bHttpAuth, and password-source settings.
Final verification checklist
- WebAdmin is enabled with
bEnabled=trueinKFGame/Config/KFWeb.ini. - If the form still failed, HTTP authentication is enabled with
bHttpAuth=trueinKFGame/Config/KFWebAdmin.ini. - The password is taken from the intended
[Engine.AccessControl]entry inPCServer-KFGame.ini, unless a startupadminpassword=argument deliberately overrides it. - AdminName and password values are consistent, with no accidental spaces or changed capitalization.
- The server has completed initialization before the test.
- You have tested a second browser, a private window, or an extension-free session.
- You are using the correct WebAdmin address and externally reachable TCP port, commonly 8080 in the cited setup.
When all seven checks pass, a continuing “Invalid form data” result is no longer explained by the documented basic settings. Preserve the startup log, the effective configuration values, the browser that failed, and the browser that worked (if any) before contacting the server host or community support. Those details let support distinguish an authentication-source conflict from a browser or port problem without exposing the password itself.
