The reliable way to troubleshoot Star Wars Outlaws performance is to separate a hardware-limit problem from a graphics-setting or software problem. First compare your PC with Ubisoft’s tier that matches your resolution and preset. Then run a controlled test with the specified upscaler, watch whether the GPU or CPU is limiting frame delivery, and change one variable at a time. Ubisoft’s published targets already assume an upscaler set to Quality, so they are not promises of native-resolution performance.
If your system is below the minimum tier, no setting can turn it into a supported 1080p/30 configuration. If it meets a tier but still stutters, use the workflow below to identify the limiting component, confirm that the game is on a suitable SSD, and check the current game build before considering hardware changes.

1. Match your PC to the right Star Wars Outlaws target
Start with Ubisoft’s official PC specifications rather than with a preset name alone. Each tier combines a resolution, graphics preset, target frame rate, upscaler mode, processor, graphics card, memory configuration and storage requirement. The table below reproduces the published targets from Ubisoft’s PC specifications and features page. The frame rates are Ubisoft’s target specifications, not independent benchmark results.
| Target | Resolution and preset | Upscaler assumption | GPU | CPU | Memory | Storage and OS |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | 1080p, 30 FPS, Low | Quality | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 6 GB; AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT 6 GB; or Intel Arc A750 8 GB with ReBAR enabled | Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 | 16 GB, dual-channel | 65 GB SSD; Windows 10 or 11 with DirectX 12 |
| Recommended | 1080p, 60 FPS, High | Quality | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB or AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT 12 GB | Intel Core i5-10400 or AMD Ryzen 5 5600X | 16 GB, dual-channel | 65 GB SSD; Windows 10 or 11 with DirectX 12 |
| Higher tier | 1440p, 60 FPS, High | Not separately stated on the cited summary | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 or AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT | Exact model not stated in the cited summary | 16 GB | SSD storage; Windows and DirectX 12 requirements apply |
| Highest tier | 4K, 60 FPS, Ultra | Not separately stated on the cited summary | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 or AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX | Exact model not stated in the cited summary | 16 GB | SSD storage; Windows and DirectX 12 requirements apply |
The 1440p and 4K rows should be checked against the current official specification page before you buy parts, because the summary available here does not include every CPU and upscaler detail for those tiers. Do not read the table as a ranking of graphics cards. It tells you which combinations Ubisoft uses for its stated targets, not how one card will compare with another in every scene.

What the minimum tier really means
A minimum-tier machine is designed around 1080p, Low settings and 30 FPS with Quality upscaling. A GTX 1660 running a 1440p High preset, or a system using native rendering instead of the assumed upscaler, is outside that target even if the game launches. Set the same resolution, preset and upscaler first when you are checking whether your PC meets the requirement.
What the recommended tier really means
The recommended tier is a 1080p, High, 60 FPS target with Quality upscaling. It does not establish 60 FPS at 1440p or 4K, and it does not guarantee that every location or traversal sequence will deliver an identical frame time. Treat it as a reference configuration for troubleshooting, not as a performance promise.
2. Identify the symptom before changing settings
“Low FPS” and “stuttering” can describe different problems. Write down the resolution, preset, upscaler, frame-generation state, average frame rate and the moment the hitch occurs. A repeatable observation is more useful than changing ten options at once.
Consistently low frame rate
If the frame rate remains low in menus, open areas and combat, the chosen target may simply exceed the GPU or CPU in your system. Compare the workload with the matching table row. A card below the listed tier, a higher resolution than the tier specifies, or native rendering instead of Quality upscaling can all explain a sustained shortfall.
Brief hitches or uneven frame delivery
If the average frame rate looks acceptable but the game pauses for a fraction of a second, note whether the hitch happens during traversal, when entering a new area, during effects-heavy combat or at regular intervals. These observations help distinguish a rendering load from a streaming or software event, but they do not prove a single cause. Use the controlled tests in the next sections rather than assuming that one internet fix applies to every PC.
A problem that appeared after an update
If the behavior began immediately after a game, Windows or graphics-driver change, record the old and new versions. Check the game’s current patch notes and support guidance before altering configuration files. A timing correlation is a reason to investigate software state; it is not proof that a particular patch caused the issue.

3. Establish a clean baseline
Make the first test easy to compare with Ubisoft’s requirements. The following sequence changes the fewest variables and gives you a reference point.

- Verify the platform requirements. Confirm that Windows 10 or 11 is running with DirectX 12, that the game is installed on an SSD, and that the system has 16 GB of dual-channel memory. Check the exact CPU and GPU models, not just the amount of video memory.
- Choose the nearest published target. For a minimum-tier check, use 1080p, Low and Quality upscaling. For a recommended-tier check, use 1080p, High and Quality upscaling. If you are targeting 1440p or 4K, use the corresponding GPU tier instead of judging the result against the 1080p rows.
- Leave the frame rate uncapped for the first observation. Ubisoft lists uncapped frame rates as a supported feature. An uncapped run shows the maximum workload your system can sustain; you can then test a cap appropriate to your display as a separate experiment.
- Repeat the same short route. Use the same save, area and camera movement for each comparison. Record average FPS and the worst-looking frame-time spikes with your normal monitoring tool.
- Change one option only. Return to the baseline after each test. If several settings change together, you will not know which one affected the result.
This baseline is a diagnostic reference. It is not a claim that every PC will reproduce Ubisoft’s target exactly, because real systems differ in background activity, cooling, firmware, memory speed and game version.
4. Tune resolution and preset in a controlled order
Resolution first
Resolution changes the number of pixels the GPU must produce. If your GPU is the limiting component, moving from 1440p or 4K to 1080p is a clear way to test that hypothesis. Keep the preset and upscaler unchanged while you test; otherwise the result cannot be attributed to resolution.
Preset second
Use the preset that corresponds to your intended tier before making individual adjustments. If 1080p High is unstable on hardware near the recommended specification, switch temporarily to 1080p Low to see whether the problem is primarily rendering load. That experiment does not mean Low is the permanent answer; it tells you whether the preset is beyond your current headroom.
Ray-traced effects
Ubisoft lists ray-traced global illumination, reflections and shadows among the game’s supported features. Ray tracing can be tested as a separate workload: record a baseline with those effects at their current level, then disable or reduce one ray-traced option and repeat the same route. A change in frame rate identifies the cost of that feature on your hardware, but it does not establish a universal setting that fixes every hitch.

Reflections, shadows and other detailed options
The game provides detailed customization rather than only a single preset. Test expensive-looking options individually, especially reflections, shadows and illumination quality. Keep textures unchanged while you test shader or lighting options; texture quality is more closely related to video-memory capacity than to the number of pixels rendered. Your goal is to find the smallest change that reaches a stable target, not to move every slider to Low.

5. Use upscaling and frame generation deliberately
Star Wars Outlaws supports NVIDIA DLSS 3.5, Intel XeSS 1.3 and AMD FSR 3.0, as well as uncapped frame rates and other rendering options, according to Ubisoft’s feature list. Support for a technology does not mean that every GPU can use every mode, nor does it guarantee the same image quality or frame pacing on every system.
Start with Quality mode
Quality is the upscaler setting Ubisoft uses in both the minimum and recommended 1080p targets. Begin there so your test matches the published specification. If the frame rate is still below your goal, compare a lower quality mode as an explicit compromise and inspect fine geometry, foliage and motion for distracting reconstruction artifacts.
Choose the technology your hardware supports
DLSS is intended for supported NVIDIA hardware, XeSS can run on compatible Intel and other GPUs, and FSR is AMD’s cross-vendor option. The practical choice is the mode exposed by your game build and GPU. Compare two supported modes at the same resolution and preset rather than assuming that a feature name alone predicts performance.

Frame-generation features can increase the displayed frame rate by inserting generated frames, but the underlying rendered frames and input response still depend on the base workload. Test with frame generation off and on while keeping the upscaler and preset fixed. If the displayed FPS rises but controls still feel delayed or frame-time spikes remain, the feature has not solved the underlying bottleneck.
DLSS 4 and newer hardware support
Ubisoft’s Title Update 1.5.1 announcement, dated February 6, 2025, states that the PC version added NVIDIA 50-series support and DLSS 4 features: read the announcement. That page confirms what was included in that update; it does not establish that 1.5.1 is the latest version in October 2026. Check the launcher and current Ubisoft patch notes before drawing conclusions from a feature that may have changed.
6. Determine whether the GPU, CPU, memory or storage is limiting you
GPU-limited behavior
When GPU utilization stays near its practical limit and lowering resolution or visual quality produces a clear FPS increase, the renderer is probably the first constraint to investigate. Use the published GPU tier as your reference, then reduce the workload in measured steps. If lowering resolution barely changes the result, look at CPU, memory or software factors instead of continuing to lower image quality.

CPU-limited behavior
A low GPU load combined with uneven frame delivery can indicate that the processor or another system task is limiting the game. Compare your CPU with the model listed for the chosen target. Close unnecessary background work for the test, keep the same route, and alter one CPU-heavy graphics option at a time. Do not infer a CPU fault from one busy core alone; examine the repeatable frame-time pattern.
Video-memory and system-memory checks
The minimum and recommended tiers both specify 16 GB of dual-channel system RAM, while the listed GPUs carry between 6 GB and 12 GB of VRAM. Confirm that your memory is operating in dual-channel mode and that background applications are not consuming most of it. If texture changes affect hitching more than resolution changes, video-memory pressure is a possibility worth testing, but the specifications do not provide a universal VRAM cutoff for every preset.
Storage checks
Ubisoft’s Store listing and the Steam listing both specify an SSD and approximately 65 GB of storage: Ubisoft Store requirements and Steam requirements. If the game is installed on a hard disk, moving it to a suitable SSD brings your system into the stated storage configuration. The available sources do not establish that replacing an already suitable SSD is a general cure for stuttering, so treat an SSD purchase as a requirement correction, not as a guaranteed upgrade for every player.
7. Check software state without assuming a universal fix
Confirm the installed game version
Use your launcher’s update information and Ubisoft’s current announcements to identify the build you are running. The February 6, 2025 Title Update 1.5.1 page is useful historical evidence, but it is not a current-version guarantee. If a problem started after a patch, note the exact build when you contact support.
Use Ubisoft’s official troubleshooting path
Ubisoft’s performance support page directs PC players to its general PC troubleshooting guidance: Ubisoft Help troubleshooting page. The detailed procedure was not exposed in the page content available for this article, so follow the live instructions there rather than relying on an old checklist copied elsewhere.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Be cautious with configuration edits
Do not delete shader caches, edit configuration files, force driver flags or change BIOS options merely because an anecdote says they fixed someone else’s PC. Those actions can remove useful settings or create a new variable. Make a backup before any supported configuration change and undo one change at a time if the result gets worse.

8. Use this decision tree for the most common cases
- Your hardware is below the minimum row. Lower the target to what the hardware can realistically render, or plan a hardware upgrade. The published minimum is already 1080p/30 on Low with Quality upscaling; it is not a guarantee for a weaker system.
- Your hardware meets minimum but not recommended. Start at 1080p Low and Quality, then raise individual settings only after frame delivery is stable. A 60 FPS High target requires the recommended CPU and GPU combination, not just 16 GB of RAM.
- Your hardware meets recommended but you are using 1440p or 4K. Compare against the higher-resolution tiers. The recommended 1080p row does not support a claim of 60 FPS at a different resolution.
- Your average FPS is acceptable but hitches continue. Repeat the route with the same settings, check SSD status and memory configuration, and compare behavior with ray-traced effects and frame generation separately. Record the game version before contacting Ubisoft.
- Performance is poor only after an update. Verify the current patch notes and use Ubisoft Help’s live troubleshooting instructions. Avoid presenting a third-party workaround as an official or universal fix.
9. A practical test matrix
Use a small matrix instead of random slider changes. Each row answers a different question.
| Test | Keep fixed | Change | What the result tells you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Resolution test | Preset, upscaler and ray tracing | 1440p or 4K to 1080p | A large FPS gain points toward pixel-rendering load on the GPU. |
| Preset test | Resolution and upscaler | High to Low | A large gain shows that visual workload is beyond the current headroom. |
| Upscaler test | Resolution and preset | Quality versus another supported mode | Shows the performance and image-quality trade-off on your specific GPU. |
| Ray-tracing test | Resolution, preset and upscaler | One ray-traced effect | Measures that effect’s cost without conflating it with other changes. |
| Frame-generation test | Resolution, preset and upscaler | Frame generation off versus on | Separates displayed FPS from base-render performance and input response. |
| Storage and memory check | Game settings | Verify SSD and dual-channel RAM | Confirms whether the PC matches explicit platform requirements. |
Keep notes for each run. A result such as “1080p Low is smooth, 1440p High stutters” is actionable; “I changed everything and it felt better” is not reproducible.
10. Decide whether an upgrade is justified
Upgrade the GPU when the GPU is the measured limit
If lowering resolution and heavy visual effects consistently improves FPS while the GPU is saturated, a faster graphics card is the direct hardware answer. Select a card against the resolution and preset you actually want, using Ubisoft’s tiers as a starting point rather than treating them as a benchmark chart.
Upgrade the CPU when the CPU is the measured limit
If the GPU has unused capacity while frame times remain uneven and your processor is below the relevant tier, a CPU platform change may be more appropriate than a graphics-card purchase. Check motherboard compatibility, memory support and cooling before buying; the game’s published rows identify processor models but do not prescribe a universal upgrade path.
Correct memory configuration before replacing parts
Both 1080p tiers specify 16 GB in dual-channel operation. If your machine has one memory module or less than 16 GB, correcting that mismatch is a prerequisite check. It is not evidence that every 16 GB system needs more memory.
Buy an SSD only when storage is the mismatch
An SSD is part of Ubisoft’s stated configuration. Move the installation if it is on a hard disk or on storage that does not meet the requirement. If the game is already on a suitable SSD, the cited requirements do not justify promising that a faster replacement will remove stutter.
11. Common mistakes that waste troubleshooting time
- Comparing the wrong target. Judging a 1440p High run against the 1080p recommended row makes a supported configuration look defective.
- Forgetting the upscaler assumption. Ubisoft’s 1080p targets use Quality upscaling; native rendering is a heavier, different test.
- Calling a target a guarantee. The listed FPS values are specifications, not independent laboratory measurements for every scene and PC.
- Changing many settings at once. Without a fixed route and one-variable tests, you cannot identify the cause.
- Assuming feature support equals performance. DLSS 3.5, XeSS 1.3, FSR 3.0, ray tracing and frame generation are available features, not identical results across GPUs.
- Replacing an SSD without checking the current drive. Storage upgrades address a missing requirement; they are not a universal stutter remedy.
- Treating an old patch note as current. Title Update 1.5.1 is dated February 6, 2025. Verify the version you are actually running before applying advice tied to it.
- Following unsupported “magic” fixes. Driver, shader-cache, overlay and configuration-file instructions need current, authoritative support. An anecdote is not a tested fix for every system.
12. When to stop tuning and report the problem
Contact Ubisoft support after you have documented the exact game version, Windows version, CPU, GPU and VRAM, RAM amount and channel configuration, storage type, resolution, preset, upscaler, ray-tracing and frame-generation states, and a repeatable route that shows the hitch. Include whether the system matches the minimum or recommended row and whether the behavior changes at 1080p Low with Quality upscaling. That information lets support distinguish a configuration outside the published target from a reproducible issue on supported hardware.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The key boundary is simple: hardware below a published tier needs a lower target or an upgrade; hardware that matches a tier should be tested methodically before parts are replaced. No source establishes one universal stutter fix for every Star Wars Outlaws PC.
