Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf a stream alert freezes, stays visible in OBS, or never appears, first check the alert provider’s settings and moderation state, then verify the OBS Browser Source and its rendering. The right fix depends on whether the alert is stuck on screen, missing, hidden behind another source, or stuttering. Start with the symptom-specific checks below; no single fix is guaranteed to resolve every cause.
First identify where the alert fails
Alerts usually come from a third-party service such as Streamlabs or StreamElements and are embedded in OBS as a Browser Source; OBS does not supply the alert itself. Determine whether the problem occurs in the provider’s preview, in OBS, or in the live broadcast, and note whether it happens with every alert or only one event. A provider test alert can help check the configured alert, but it does not prove that a real event is reaching the live alert path.

- Alert remains visible: check its show/hide behavior, duration, and any custom code.
- No alert appears: check whether alerts are paused or awaiting moderation approval.
- You can hear it but cannot see it: check OBS source visibility and layering.
- It stutters or looks frozen: check the overlay URL and dimensions, then test browser-source hardware acceleration.
Provider interfaces can change, so labels may differ slightly from those below. The Streamlabs troubleshooting checklist was updated April 25, 2025; StreamElements’ overlay troubleshooting article was updated April 2, 2025.
Fix an alert that stays on screen
Check Streamlabs show and hide animations
In Streamlabs, open the settings for the specific alert type and inspect its Animation controls. Select an animation for both Show and Hide. Streamlabs identifies a missing show or hide animation as a reason an alert can get stuck, unless the behavior is intentional in custom code.

Review duration, variations, and custom code
Check the alert’s duration: a very short setting can make it disappear sooner than intended. If the issue began after changing alert variations, temporarily disable the affected variations and test again. Review custom HTML or CSS only if you intentionally added it; custom code can change how an alert appears or exits.
Fix an alert that never appears
Check pause and moderation settings
In Streamlabs, confirm alerts are not paused. If Unlimited Alert Moderation Delay is enabled, someone must accept each event; an unaccepted alert will not play. Check whether the event is waiting for approval before changing OBS settings.

For StreamElements, check the Activity Feed for paused or muted alerts. Use the provider’s test-alert control to test the configured alert before going live. A successful test is useful, but it does not establish that every real event or notification is arriving correctly.

Fix an alert that is audible but hidden in OBS
In the relevant OBS scene, confirm the correct alert Browser Source is present and visible. Inspect the source order: a source above the alert may cover it. Move the alert source above the sources obscuring it, then trigger a test alert. StreamElements specifically recommends checking source order when an alert can be heard but not seen.

Fix stuttering or frozen browser rendering
Verify the StreamElements overlay URL and dimensions
Copy the current overlay URL from StreamElements and replace the URL in the OBS Browser Source properties. Confirm that the source dimensions match the overlay’s actual dimensions. StreamElements notes that 1920×1080 is a common overlay resolution, not a requirement for every overlay; use the dimensions configured for yours.
Test browser-source hardware acceleration
Try switching OBS browser-source hardware acceleration to the opposite of its current state—enabled if disabled, or disabled if enabled—and restart OBS before testing. Streamlabs and StreamElements both include hardware acceleration among their troubleshooting checks. Change one setting at a time so you can tell whether it affected the issue.

Refresh the source and clear cache only if needed
If the configuration checks do not help, refresh or recreate the affected Browser Source. Streamlabs recommends deleting and re-adding widget sources as a troubleshooting step. Test the alert after re-adding it.
For a persistent Streamlabs problem, its troubleshooting checklist also describes clearing the OBS browser cache. Close OBS or Streamlabs Desktop first, follow Streamlabs’ current instructions to remove the relevant obs-browser cache folder, reopen the software, re-add the alert source, and run a test alert. Treat this as a later step: do not delete unrelated files, and follow the provider’s current guidance for the software version you use.

When the alert still fails
Give the provider useful diagnostic details instead of only reporting that it is broken. Record the alert provider, OBS and provider-software versions, the exact symptom, whether it happens every time, the activity that triggered it, any exact error text, and what you changed before the problem began. StreamElements asks users reporting overlay issues to include OBS and SE.Live versions, OBS logs, the triggering activity, error text, and whether the issue is reproducible. Keep stream keys and private overlay URLs out of screenshots and public logs.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a separate option for keeping a YouTube channel live with uploaded videos; it does not fix OBS alerts or stream from a camera. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers the first day free with no card. The monthly price is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
