Start with the fixes that address the most common causes: restart the game and your PC or console, check EA and platform service status, install every pending game update, then repair or verify the installation. On PC, confirm your hardware meets EA’s minimum requirements, update the graphics driver, close background applications, and reduce demanding settings. The sections below match the fix to the symptom and platform.
Why won’t STAR WARS Zero Company launch?
A failed launch is usually caused by a pending update, a damaged or missing game file, an outdated graphics driver, a temporary platform-service problem, or a PC below the minimum specification. Work through the following order so that you do not change several variables at once.

1. Restart and check service status
- Exit STAR WARS Zero Company completely. On PC, close the EA app, Steam, or Epic Games Store as well if it remains open but unresponsive.
- Restart the PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S. A full restart clears a stuck game process and temporary platform state.
- Check EA’s service status and the status page for your platform. The game is single-player, but EA or platform services can still affect downloads, updates, sign-in, and account features.
- If a service incident is shown, wait until it is resolved before repeatedly reinstalling the game. A local repair cannot correct a provider outage.
2. Install pending updates
Make sure both the game and its launcher or console system software are current. EA lists pending game updates as a possible reason a title will not start. Pause other downloads if the platform is unable to finish the update, then retry after confirming that sufficient storage is available.
3. Check the PC requirements
EA’s published minimum is a compatibility floor, not a promise that every graphics setting will run smoothly. EA states: “Meeting the minimum system requirements for a game doesn’t guarantee that every graphics setting will run smoothly.” The minimum target is 1,920×1,080 at 30 frames per second on Low settings.

4. Inspect your configuration with DxDiag
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
dxdiagand press Enter. - Use the System tab to check Windows, processor, memory, and DirectX information. Use the Display tab to identify the graphics card and driver.
- Compare those entries with EA’s minimum list above. In File Explorer, open This PC to check available storage.
If a component is below the minimum, software changes may make the game less demanding, but they cannot turn unsupported hardware into a supported configuration. Do not buy an upgrade until you have identified the specific shortfall.
5. Repair or verify the installation
Corrupted or missing files can cause a crash, freeze, launch failure, or an unexpected error. Repair the files before attempting a complete reinstall.
- EA app: Open Library, find STAR WARS Zero Company, open its three-dot menu, and select Repair. Allow the process to finish, restart the PC, and try the game again.
- Steam or Epic Games Store: Use the store’s built-in file verification option for the game (usually labelled Verify integrity or Verify). Wait for the check and any replacement download to complete before launching.
Do not interrupt a repair or verification pass. If it reports that files were reacquired, start the game once more before changing graphics settings.

EA identifies outdated graphics drivers as a possible cause of launch failures and black screens. Install the current driver supplied for your GPU, restart Windows, and test again. Close browsers, recording tools, overlays, hardware-monitoring utilities, and other applications that are not needed for the test; EA also lists background applications as a possible cause of crashes or slow, laggy play.

Why am I getting a black screen?
A black screen can occur during startup or after the game has loaded. Treat it first as a launch or driver problem rather than immediately assuming that the save is damaged.
- Restart the system and confirm that the game and platform have no pending updates.
- Update the graphics driver, then reboot.
- Repair or verify the game files through the store where you installed it.
- Close background applications and overlays that can interfere with a full-screen game.
- If you can reach the graphics menu, select a lower preset and resolution, then relaunch. A PC close to minimum requirements may need settings below what you normally use.
If the screen remains black, note whether you hear menu audio, whether the display returns after a few seconds, and whether the problem happens every launch. Those details help EA distinguish a display initialization issue from a crash.
What can I do if STAR WARS Zero Company crashes or freezes?
Crash immediately on launch
Prioritize the restart, service-status check, update, requirements check, driver update, and file repair sequence above. A missing or corrupted file and an outdated driver are specifically identified by EA as possible causes. If the game was installed through Steam, EA’s FAQ says that version is Steam-native and does not require the EA app; do not install an additional launcher solely to start the Steam version.
Crash or freeze after playing
- Close other applications and test with the game running by itself.
- Lower graphics settings if your PC is near the minimum specification.
- Watch for a repeatable trigger, such as loading a particular mission or changing a display mode, and record the exact steps.
- Repair or verify files even if the game launched successfully before; file corruption can develop after an update or interrupted write.
A freeze that clears after a long pause is different from a process that closes to the desktop. Record which behavior occurs and whether Windows displays an error; avoid guessing at a cause when reporting it.

What can I do if STAR WARS Zero Company runs slowly, stutters, or has a low frame rate on PC?
Start by separating a system that cannot meet the target from a configuration problem. EA’s minimum target is 1080p at 30 FPS on Low. The developer’s Steam FAQ says the game is more CPU-bound than it had validated earlier in development. In practice, a powerful GPU cannot guarantee 60 FPS if the processor is the limiting component.
Use a controlled performance test
- Close background applications and restart the game.
- Set the resolution and preset to a level your hardware should support, starting with the Low baseline if you are near minimum.
- Play the same short section for several minutes and observe whether the problem is a consistently low frame rate, brief hitching, or a one-time shader or loading pause.
- Change one setting at a time and retest. This identifies the setting that helps instead of creating an unrepeatable mix of changes.
Apply the general fixes
- Update the graphics driver.
- Close browser tabs, capture software, overlays, and other background applications.
- Lower resolution, texture, lighting, and other demanding settings when the PC is close to minimum requirements.
- Keep adequate free storage so the game and platform can update normally.
Use the conditional GPU settings from EA
These are targeted suggestions, not universal fixes:
- Intel Arc: EA advises enabling Resizable BAR to improve FPS. If the option is unavailable, consult the documentation for your motherboard and system firmware; do not assume every PC supports it.
- Nvidia GTX 10-series or RTX 20-series: If the card meets the game’s minimum specification, EA suggests turning off Environment Geometry Detail to improve frame rate. Do not present this setting as a required change for newer or different GPU families.
Choose an upscaling mode for the 1440p/60 FPS target
The developer FAQ says the recommended target of 60 FPS at 1440p is best achieved with the recommended TSR setting or with DLSS or FSR upscaling. Upscaling reduces the internal rendering workload, but it cannot remove a CPU bottleneck. Start with the recommended TSR mode, then compare a supported vendor upscaler at a quality setting that keeps text and fine details readable.
That 1440p/60 FPS guidance is a developer target, not a guarantee for every processor, graphics card, driver, or graphics preset. If your frame rate barely changes after lowering resolution, the CPU is more likely to be limiting performance than the GPU.

Download, update, or installation problems
Even a single-player game can depend on EA or platform services for downloads, updates, and account functions. When an update will not start or an installation stops:
- Check EA and the relevant platform service status first.
- Restart the console or PC and reopen the store or launcher.
- Confirm that at least 50 GB is available on PC, with additional working space for an update.
- Retry the download after other large downloads have finished or been paused.
- Once installation completes, use the launcher’s repair or verification function if the game still crashes.
A service outage and a damaged local file can look similar. The service-status check distinguishes a provider-side interruption before you spend time reinstalling.
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S checks
On console, begin with the same low-risk sequence: close the game, restart the console, check EA and console-network service status, and install every pending game and system update. If the game is still failing, note whether the problem is a crash, a frozen image, a failed download, or an account-related message. Those symptoms point to different support paths.

Do not apply PC-only advice such as graphics-driver updates, DxDiag, Resizable BAR, or Environment Geometry Detail to a console. Console users should focus on restart, updates, available storage, service status, and the platform’s own installation-management options before contacting support.
Steam Deck and the Steam version
EA’s Steam FAQ states that the Steam version is Steam-native and does not require the EA app. The same FAQ said the game was not Steam Deck verified at launch. Verification status can change, so check the current official information rather than treating the launch status as permanent.
If you are troubleshooting the Steam version on a desktop PC, use Steam’s file-verification function and follow the PC requirements and driver guidance above. A Steam Deck status label does not change the Windows minimum requirements listed by EA for a PC installation.
When should you contact EA support?
Contact EA after you have completed the relevant restart, service check, update, file repair or verification, driver, background-app, and settings steps. Include enough detail for support to reproduce the fault:
- Platform: EA app, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S.
- Your EA ID or account email, plus the platform username or account ID.
- The date and approximate time the issue began.
- What happened: launch failure, black screen, crash, freeze, stutter, low FPS, download failure, or an exact error message.
- Your PC specifications when relevant, including Windows version, processor, RAM, graphics card, driver version, and free storage.
- Every troubleshooting step already attempted and the result of each one.
- A screenshot or short video clip showing the error or behavior, when possible.
EA’s updates index listed “Star Wars Zero Company 1.1 Patch Notes” dated September 9, 2026. Check the live EA news and updates page for later patches before concluding that a particular issue is still unfixed; patch status can change after this date.

If none of the applicable steps changes the behavior, send EA the platform, account identifiers, start date, exact error, steps tried, and visual evidence. That gives support actionable information instead of a generic report.
