If a smart ring feels too tight, too loose, or uncomfortable, start again with the sizing kit made for that exact brand and model generation. Test the sizer on the finger where you plan to wear the ring for a full day and night, including sleep, then follow the maker’s guidance if the finished ring still does not fit.
Why your usual ring size may not work
A jewelry size is only a starting point. Oura says its generations differ slightly and its sizes differ from standard US ring sizes. Samsung notes that the Galaxy Ring’s internal sensors can make your usual size unsuitable, while Ultrahuman says its sizing differs from standard rings and other smart rings. Use the kit for the exact ring model or generation rather than converting from another brand’s sizer.
If you still need to choose a size, get the smart ring sizing kit intended for your model. RingConn, for example, lists a RingConn Gen 2 sizing kit; confirm that a kit matches the generation you plan to buy, because sizing kits are not interchangeable across brands.
How to test a smart ring’s fit
- Choose the intended finger. Test on the finger where you expect to wear the ring. For Oura, the index finger is recommended for best accuracy; the middle or ring finger can also work. If possible, avoid a finger whose knuckle is much wider than its base.
- Wear the sizer long enough. Fingers change size through the day and night, so an immediate try-on is not a complete test. Oura recommends at least 24 hours, including sleep. Samsung recommends more than 24 hours, including sleep.
- Check comfort and security. The sizer should stay in place without feeling painfully tight. Oura describes the target as “snug, not tight”; RingConn advises a “secure and slightly snug” fit rather than a loose one.
- Check movement and contact. Notice whether the sizer rotates freely or slides off. Oura also suggests making a fist and checking for a gap. Use these checks alongside the specific brand’s instructions, not as a substitute for them.
- Try another permitted size or finger if needed. If the candidate becomes uncomfortable during the extended test, follow the brand’s kit guidance to test another size or eligible finger. Do not choose based on a brief try-on alone.
Brand-specific sizing guidance
| Brand | What to do | Important detail |
|---|---|---|
| Oura | Use the kit for the exact generation and wear the sizer for at least 24 hours, including sleep. | Oura recommends the index finger for best accuracy, with the middle or ring finger also suitable. If between sizes, Oura advises choosing the smaller size; this is Oura-specific guidance, not a universal rule. Its sizing page was last updated August 10, 2026. Oura sizing instructions |
| Samsung Galaxy Ring | Use Samsung’s sizing kit, follow its orientation instructions, and wear the candidate for more than 24 hours, including sleep. | Samsung says the ring’s internal sensors can make a familiar jewelry size unsuitable. Try another size if the extended test feels uncomfortable. Samsung sizing instructions |
| RingConn | Use a kit that matches the ring generation under consideration. | RingConn says its plastic sizer may feel less smooth than the finished ring, so do not judge fit from surface feel alone. The company says it sends a sizing kit before the smart ring ships. RingConn size guide |
| Ultrahuman | Follow the current sizing-kit instructions for the particular ring. | Ultrahuman says its sizes differ from standard rings and other smart rings; spinning or sliding off are signs its sizer may be too loose. Ultrahuman sizing instructions |
What to do if the delivered ring still fits badly
First, check that you tested with the kit for the exact model generation and wore it on the intended finger for the manufacturer’s recommended period. Then contact the maker or retailer to ask what sizing support is available. Oura specifically directs customers whose ring remains too tight or loose to Member Care. Other brands’ exchange or repair options depend on their current policies, seller, and model; confirm them directly rather than assuming a remedy.

Why home resizing is not a safe default
Do not assume an electronic smart ring can be resized like ordinary jewelry. The official sizing guidance reviewed here does not validate heating, bending, sanding, adhesive, or generic ring guards as fixes for smart rings. Ask the manufacturer before attempting any alteration or add-on that could affect the ring.
