“Screenshots disabled” on a phone can mean four different things: the browser has no full-page control in that context, the page is failing to load, the app is protecting secure content, or a work/school policy is blocking capture. A normal screenshot and a full-page screenshot are separate capabilities. Identify the symptom first, then use the fix for your platform and browser.
Identify what is actually blocked
Before changing settings, compare the symptom with the table below. The correct solution depends on whether the restriction belongs to the browser, the website, the app, or an administrator.

There is no supported universal switch that overrides Android secure-window protection or an administrator-enforced Chrome policy. Do not root the phone or install modified capture tools as a routine workaround. Use an approved download, export, print or desktop workflow instead.
When full-page capture is missing
Open the page in a normal browser tab
Links opened inside social, email, shopping or other apps may use an embedded browser view. Those views often expose fewer screenshot and print controls than Safari or Chrome. Copy the URL, open Safari or Chrome directly, and paste it into a new tab.

Request the desktop version
Responsive layouts can change the document presented to the browser. If the mobile version does not provide the control you need, use the browser’s site menu and request the desktop site. On iPhone and iPad, Google documents a Chrome “Default site view” control for requesting desktop versions. A desktop rendering may expose a print or full-page route that the mobile rendering does not.
Distinguish a normal screenshot from a scrolling screenshot
A normal screenshot records the visible viewport. Full-page or scrolling capture must first be supported by the browser and by that document. Some pages contain nested scroll areas, virtualized lists, cross-origin frames or continuously changing content; those conditions can prevent a browser from offering a reliable full-page result even when ordinary screenshots work.
Fix Safari on iPhone or iPad
- Leave the embedded view. Copy the address and open it in a regular Safari tab.
- Try another connection. Switch from Wi-Fi to cellular data, or use another Wi-Fi network. A captive portal, DNS filter or unstable connection can make the page appear to have capture disabled.
- Check VPN settings. Apple notes that a VPN can block content from loading. Temporarily disconnect it, if your policy allows, and reload the page.
- Restart the device. A restart clears transient browser and rendering faults.
- Clear Safari data. Go to Settings > Apps > Safari > Clear History and Website Data, confirm the action, reopen Safari and sign in again if required.
- Enable JavaScript. Go to Settings > Apps > Safari > Advanced and confirm that JavaScript is enabled. Reload the page after changing it.
- Check iCloud Private Relay for a one-site problem. Apple advises checking Private Relay when the issue continues on only one website. Test the site again after changing the setting, then restore your preferred privacy configuration.
- Use the site’s own export. If the page still fails while other sites work, the website may be rejecting the request or serving incompatible content. Apple’s guidance is to contact that website’s developer.
Fix Chrome on iPhone or iPad
- Open the URL in the full Chrome app rather than an in-app browser.
- Open Chrome > More > Settings > Content Settings and review the permission relevant to the site. Change only what the page needs, then reload.
- From the site menu, choose the option to request the desktop version when the mobile rendering is incompatible.
- Remember that Chrome blocks pop-ups by default. If a trusted site’s print or capture flow opens a new window, allow pop-ups for that site only, complete the flow, and remove the exception afterward if you do not need it.
Fix Android capture blocks
Protected apps and views
Android’s secure-window mechanism can deliberately prevent screenshots. The W3C capture-prevention material describes the result as “Screenshot is not allowed.” Banking, streaming, enterprise and identity apps commonly use this kind of protection. A black image or a refusal in only one protected app is consistent with intentional behavior, not a broken screenshot button.
Use an approved alternative
- Look for Download, Share, Export or Print inside the app.
- Choose Open in browser if the service provides that option and the browser version permits capture.
- Use the service’s desktop website when it offers an equivalent export.
- Ask the service or app administrator whether a supported report or receipt can be generated.
A normal user setting cannot override an app’s secure window. Avoid rooting or patched APKs: they can weaken account security and violate the service’s terms.

Check for work or school screenshot policies
Managed Chrome deployments can enforce screenshot prevention for websites. Chrome Enterprise documentation states that users can be prevented from taking screenshots and sharing their screen on all websites except administrator-specified URL exceptions. If capture fails across managed sites, or a policy notice appears, contact your administrator and provide the exact URL, device and browser version. The administrator must change the policy or add an approved exception; clearing browser data will not remove an enforced rule.
Use the scope of the failure to narrow the cause
Every website fails
Test a simple public page in a normal Safari or Chrome tab. If it also fails, start with network/VPN checks, a restart and browser settings. On a managed device, ask whether a global policy applies.
Only one website fails
Check JavaScript, cached website data and Private Relay (Safari) or site permissions (Chrome). If the page itself remains blank or errors while other sites work, the site may be blocking the request or malfunctioning. Use its support or developer channel.
Only an embedded view fails
Reopen the URL directly in the browser. Embedded views can omit full-page, print and pop-up controls even though the same URL works in a normal tab.

Only a protected app fails
Treat the behavior as intentional secure-content protection. Look for export or download instead of trying to bypass it.

“Full Page” never appears
Move from the embedded view to Safari or Chrome, request the desktop site, and test a simpler document. If normal screenshots work but the control remains absent, that browser/document combination may not support scrolling capture.

Reload after the connection change, verify JavaScript, and clear site data. If one site alone remains blank, check Private Relay on Safari or contact the site developer.
The screenshot is black on Android
Test another page. If only a protected app or account screen is black, secure-window protection is the likely cause; use its export or print feature.

A policy blocks every site on a managed phone
Record the policy message and URL, then ask the work or school administrator for an approved exception. The user cannot remove an administrator-enforced rule.
The API returns a failed or unhelpful capture
Inspect X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed, confirm the URL is publicly reachable, and add an appropriate wait for late content. For pages requiring login, supply authorized headers or cookies only when you have permission. A bot check, timeout, blank page or failed load is not a clean screenshot.

Can I force a screenshot of an Android app that says screenshots are not allowed?
No supported user setting overrides Android secure-window protection. Use the app’s download, export, print or browser option, or ask its administrator for an approved method.
Why can I screenshot the visible page but not the whole website?
A normal screenshot and a scrolling screenshot use different browser capabilities. Full-page capture may be unavailable in an embedded view or unsupported for documents with nested or dynamic scrolling.
Will clearing Safari data remove a work screenshot policy?
No. Clearing website data can fix loading and permission problems, but an administrator-enforced Chrome policy must be changed by the administrator.
