1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf Hindi text appears as empty space or replacement boxes in a screenshot, first check whether the text is present in the page’s DOM. If it is, the usual branches to investigate are whether the capture runtime has a font with Devanagari glyph coverage and whether the page’s web fonts finished loading before capture. Waiting for fonts can fix a timing race; it cannot install a font that is missing from the environment.
Diagnose whether the Hindi text is missing from the page or only the screenshot
- Inspect the page’s text or DOM in the same runtime that makes the capture. Check whether the Hindi content is present before investigating the image.
- If the text is absent from the DOM, investigate the page’s data, localization, or rendering logic. A screenshot API captures rendered output; it cannot restore content that the page did not render.
- If the text is present in the DOM but missing or replaced in the image, check font coverage and font-loading timing in the capture environment.
This distinction prevents a font change from masking an application-level problem. Screenshot APIs expose capture operations and settings, but the fonts needed to render the page must be available to the page and browser runtime.

Check Devanagari font coverage in the capture runtime
Hindi is written in Devanagari. A browser running in a container, serverless image, or CI runner may not have the same fonts as your desktop, so it can render the same page differently. Check the exact machine or image that runs the browser, and confirm that an installed font includes the glyphs the page needs.

Package names and installation commands vary by distribution and image version. After installing fonts, ensure the browser process uses the updated environment; if necessary, rebuild the image or restart the process before capturing again.
Web-hosted fonts
If the page relies on a web font for Hindi, verify that the font request succeeds in the capture runtime and that the font contains the required Devanagari glyphs. A CSS declaration alone does not prove that the font loaded or that it covers the characters being displayed.

Wait for page fonts before capturing
A capture can start before a web font finishes loading, leaving the browser to take the screenshot with a fallback font or before final layout settles. In Playwright, wait for the page’s font set before taking the screenshot:
await page.goto(url);
await page.evaluate(() => document.fonts.ready);
await page.screenshot({ path: 'capture.png' });
document.fonts.ready resolves after the document’s fonts have loaded, layout operations are complete, and no further font loads are needed. This addresses readiness, not font availability: if no usable Devanagari font is available, waiting alone will not supply one.

Make local and production captures comparable
Browser output can vary with the host operating system, browser version, settings, hardware, power source, and headless mode. To reproduce a missing-text problem, compare screenshots in the actual capture environment and keep the main variables aligned:
- Operating system or container image
- Browser family and version
- Installed fonts and font configuration
- Headless mode and other capture settings
- Page font-loading behavior
Playwright recommends generating and comparing screenshots in the same environment because rendering can differ across platforms and browsers. A screenshot that looks correct on a developer’s desktop does not establish that the production runner has the same font coverage or rendering conditions.

Separate browser-launch problems from missing glyphs
If Chrome does not launch or the automation environment is incomplete, consult the current Linux system requirements for your browser automation framework. Puppeteer’s Linux guidance covers supported Linux families and Chrome package dependencies. Those dependencies address browser runtime requirements generally; installing shared libraries alone does not establish that Hindi glyphs are available.

Troubleshoot by symptom
| Symptom | Likely area to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Hindi text is absent from both DOM and screenshot | Page data, localization, or rendering logic | Confirm the page receives and renders the expected Hindi content before changing fonts. |
| DOM contains Hindi, but screenshot shows boxes or missing characters | Font coverage in the capture runtime | Check for a font with the required Devanagari glyphs in the exact container or runner. |
| Screenshot sometimes uses the right font and sometimes a fallback | Web-font loading race | Wait for document.fonts.ready before capture, and verify the font request succeeds. |
| Local capture works, production capture does not | Environment mismatch | Compare OS image, browser version, installed fonts, and capture settings in both environments. |
| Browser fails to launch | Automation runtime dependencies | Follow the framework’s current Linux requirements, then separately check Devanagari font coverage. |

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its capture flow handles cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the shot; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. AI agents can use its MCP server to take screenshots, and 1,000 screenshots a month are free with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. See the ScreenshotNeo site and API documentation.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
The example saves a screenshot response as shot.webp. Replace the target URL with the page you need to capture and provide your API key. For Hindi rendering, the page still needs an available font with Devanagari coverage; a capture service cannot supply missing page content or guarantee a particular font stack.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does waiting for `document.fonts.ready` install Hindi fonts?
No. It waits for the document’s used fonts and related layout work to finish; the browser still needs access to a font with the required Devanagari glyphs.
