The reliable repair is to record the exact rejection, align the RLCraft release, Minecraft version, Forge build and mod jars, rebuild from the official client and server packs, then replace or roll back the named mod on both sides.

What a server mod rejection means
During login, the Forge Mod Loader (FML) handshake compares the mods that the client advertises with the mods loaded by the server. It checks mod identifiers, versions, dependencies and loader compatibility. If a required mod is missing, a jar is duplicated, a file was built for another loader, or one side has a different build, Forge can stop the connection before the world loads.

The rejection screen often names the first mod or handler that failed. That name is a diagnostic lead, not proof that every other file is correct. Fix the named item first, then repeat the test; a second rejection can appear after the first problem is removed.
| Item Forge compares | What must match | Typical failure |
|---|---|---|
| RLCraft pack | The same release and Minecraft edition | Client on one RLCraft release while the server uses another |
| Forge loader | A compatible 1.12.2 Forge build on both sides | One installation uses a different loader build |
| Mod jars | The pack’s exact mod files and versions | An updated, downgraded or duplicate jar |
| Dependencies | Every required library at a compatible version | A dependency exists on one side only or is the wrong build |
| Loader metadata | Each jar must declare compatibility with Forge 1.12.2 | A Fabric, NeoForge or otherwise incompatible file was copied into the Mods folder |
Do not start by deleting random files or changing unrelated settings. Preserve the evidence, establish the pack baseline and make one controlled change at a time.

Capture the rejection before changing anything
- Save the complete client message. Copy the entire rejection text, including the mod identifier, version and any phrase such as
Failed mod's custom NetworkCheckHandler. A screenshot alone can omit the useful lower lines, so copy the text when the launcher allows it. - Save the latest server log. Use the log from the failed connection, not an older startup. Keep the timestamp and the first stack trace associated with the rejection.
- Record both installations. Write down the RLCraft release, Minecraft version, Forge version, and the exact filename of every mod mentioned in the message.
- Stop changing files until the record is complete. A restart after each change is useful; repeated unrecorded edits make it difficult to identify which change fixed or introduced the problem.
The full log can reveal an earlier dependency or loader error that the short rejection window does not show. If support is needed later, provide the exact rejection text, the affected mod filename and the corresponding server log rather than a description such as “mods are mismatched.”
Use the official RLCraft baseline
RLCraft is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.12.2. The official CurseForge project lists RLCraft 1.12.2 - Release v2.9.3.zip and the matching RLCraft Server Pack 1.12.2 - Release v2.9.3.zip. For the v2.9 line, the project states: “RLCraft v2.9 comes with and requires Forge 2860.” The packaged build is Forge 1.12.2-14.23.5.2860.

Forge builds that differ from 14.23.5.2860 may work only when the particular pack and every mod support them. Treat 2860 as the v2.9.x baseline, and verify the exact pack file before experimenting with another loader build.
Rebuild a clean installation from the matching packs
Client cleanup
- Close the launcher and the game.
- Back up screenshots, worlds and any personal configuration you want to preserve.
- Install or import the official RLCraft client archive for the same release used by the server.
- Do not copy extra jars from another modpack into the new profile. Additions such as performance, graphics or minimap mods can change the handshake.
- Launch the clean profile once so it creates its normal directories, then close it before making optional changes.
Manual server setup
- Stop the server and make a backup of the world,
server.properties, permissions and other operational files. - Obtain the official server-pack archive that matches the client release.
- In the manual server directory, make sure the
ModsandConfigfolders contain nothing from the previous installation. Move old folders to a backup location instead of permanently deleting them. - Copy the
ModsandConfigfolders from the server pack into the empty locations. Copy the other pack files as instructed by the pack, keeping the server’s existing world and administrative files backed up. - Start the server, allow it to finish loading, then stop it cleanly. This confirms that the pack itself can load before a client attempts to join.
Cleaning both folders matters because a leftover jar can remain alongside the correct one, and an old configuration can enable a feature that the current jar no longer supports. If the server is managed by a control panel, use its file manager or transfer method to perform the same replacement; the principle is still to remove stale contents before copying the matching pack.
Compare the client and server mod jars systematically
After the clean baseline starts, compare the contents of the client and server Mods folders. Use the complete filename, including its version number, rather than relying on the display name in a launcher. A file that appears to have the same mod name can still be a different build.

| Finding | What it indicates | Correction |
|---|---|---|
| Two jars provide the same mod identifier | A duplicate or old copy is being loaded | Keep only the jar supplied by the matching pack; remove the duplicate from both installations. |
| A jar exists on the client but not the server | It may be a client-only addition or a required gameplay mod missing from the server | Check the pack’s intended side. Remove an optional client-only addition while testing; install a required gameplay mod on the server and client. |
| A jar exists on the server but not the client | The client cannot satisfy the server’s required mod list | Install the same compatible jar in the client profile, unless the pack explicitly identifies it as server-only. |
| Filename has a different version or build number | One side was updated, downgraded or copied from another pack | Use the exact file from the matching RLCraft release on both sides. |
| Jar targets another loader or Minecraft version | Forge cannot treat it as a compatible RLCraft mod | Replace it with a Forge 1.12.2 build intended for the pack. |
| Required library is absent | A dependency cannot be resolved during loading or login | Restore the dependency from the official pack and keep its version aligned on both sides. |
Sort each folder by filename and inspect both the visible name and the file’s version. Do not rename a jar to disguise a mismatch; Forge reads metadata inside the archive, so changing the filename does not change its loader or mod version.
When the rejection names a specific mod
Read the identifier and handler literally
A line such as LootTweaker: Failed mod's custom NetworkCheckHandler FMLMod:loottweaker{0,3,1} identifies the mod id (loottweaker) and the reported version (0.3.1). Locate the corresponding jar on both machines, confirm that both files are the same build, and inspect the surrounding log lines for a dependency or loader warning.
Replace or roll back on both sides
- Stop the server and close the client.
- Move the named jar out of both
Modsfolders so it cannot be loaded accidentally. - Obtain the compatible version for the RLCraft release and Forge 1.12.2. If the problem began after an update, use the previous compatible build rather than the newest file.
- Install that exact jar on both client and server, preserving the same filename and version.
- Restart the server fully, launch a clean client profile and test one connection.
In a January 15, 2022 Minecraft Forum case, the reported LootTweaker rejection was resolved by downgrading the mod and replacing it on both the server and client. That report demonstrates the workflow, not a universal requirement to use one particular LootTweaker version. Your log and pack release determine the correct file.
Check loader tags and dependencies
CurseForge Support explains that a loader warning appears when a mod is not compatible with the modpack’s loader or when an update removes support for a loader that an earlier version supported. Its prescribed remedy is to update to a compatible version or roll back to a previous version that works with the loader. The file also needs the author’s loader tag to be recognized as compatible.
Apply that guidance to RLCraft by checking four things for every newly added or replaced jar:
Rank #3
- CREATE YOUR WORLD — Build whatever you imagine in an infinite world that is unique in every playthrough.
- EXPLORE AND CRAFT — Discover biomes, resources, and mobs, then craft your way through a sandbox world full of surprises.
- SURVIVAL ADVENTURES — Face mysterious foes, travel across varied landscapes, and venture into perilous dimensions.
- PLAY TOGETHER — Play solo or join friends in local split-screen and cross-platform play across console, mobile, and PC. Online multiplayer supports up to 8 players.
- COMMUNITY PLAY — Connect with players on community servers, or subscribe to Realms Plus (sold separately) to play with up to 10 friends on a private server.
- Loader: It is a Forge file, not a Fabric, NeoForge or unrelated-loader build.
- Minecraft target: It supports Minecraft 1.12.2.
- Dependencies: Any library named in the mod description or log is present at a compatible version.
- Side: The mod is intended for the client, server or both. Do not copy a client-rendering addition onto a dedicated server simply because its name appears in the client folder.
Missing or invalid manifest references can produce the same broad “mod rejection” symptom. If a launcher reports that a manifest entry cannot be found, restore the pack’s original file instead of downloading a similarly named jar from an unrelated release.
Remove known incompatible optional additions while testing
The official RLCraft page warns that E3 OptiFine should not be used because it will crash. It recommends the 1.12.2 G5 OptiFine build instead. The same page identifies VanillaFix and BetterFPS as incompatible with RLCraft.
These warnings concern optional additions, not the core pack. While isolating a rejection, remove OptiFine, VanillaFix, BetterFPS and any other manually added performance or graphics jars from the client. Remove them from the server too if they were copied there, then test the untouched pack. Once the base pack connects successfully, add back only a version explicitly compatible with RLCraft and Forge 1.12.2, testing after each addition.
Do not use the absence of a crash as proof that an optional jar is safe. A client-only file can leave the game running locally while still changing the handshake or causing a later world-loading failure.

RLCraft’s official instructions require enable-command-block=true in server.properties. Without it, some structures may not generate correctly and villagers may be missing. This setting does not normally create a mod-list rejection, but correcting it prevents a separate, confusingly similar “the server is broken” symptom after the handshake is fixed.

enable-command-block=true. If the line is absent, add it once using the exact property name. - Save the file, start the server and wait for a complete startup.
- Test the connection and, after joining, verify that expected structures and villagers generate in newly explored areas.
Do not edit server.properties while the server is running; a shutdown can overwrite unsaved changes.
Use a clean client profile for the final test
Once the server contains only the matching pack files, test with a client profile that has no extra jars or old configuration. This separates a server-side mismatch from a contaminated local profile.
- Close all game and launcher processes.
- Create or import a fresh profile for the same RLCraft release and Minecraft 1.12.2.
- Confirm the profile uses Forge 14.23.5.2860 for the listed v2.9.3 baseline.
- Launch without shaders, optimization mods, custom resource loaders or copied configuration files.
- Connect once and save the new client log and server log, even if the test succeeds.
If the clean client connects, reintroduce personal additions one at a time. When a rejection returns, the last addition is the first item to remove and verify.
Choose the least disruptive fix
| Situation | Preferred fix | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Both sides contain mixed or unknown files | Reinstall from the matching official client and server packs | It restores a known-good file set instead of chasing several simultaneous differences. |
| One mod is named and its versions differ | Replace or roll back that jar on both sides | It changes only the diagnosed component. |
| Duplicate jars are present | Remove the older or duplicate copy from both relevant folders | Forge should see one provider for each mod identifier. |
| Loader warning appears after a mod update | Use a Forge 1.12.2 version tagged as compatible, or roll back | A newer file may have dropped support for the pack’s loader. |
| Only optional performance or graphics files were added | Remove them and test the untouched pack first | It avoids attributing a rejection to the core RLCraft files. |
| Server loads but gameplay elements are missing | Set enable-command-block=true and restart |
The property is required for correct structure and villager behavior. |
When comparing two proposed fixes, record the exact Minecraft and Forge versions, RLCraft release, mod filename and build, client/server symmetry, dependency completeness and loader tag. Prefer the change that addresses the named mod without introducing unrelated updates.
Common failure branches
The rejection returns immediately after a clean reinstall
Recheck that the client imported the same release as the server. A launcher can retain an older profile while displaying a familiar pack name. Compare the actual mod filenames and the Forge version shown at startup, then inspect the first relevant server-log error.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
The named mod is present at the same version, but the handler still fails
Look for a duplicate jar, a missing dependency or a wrong-loader build with a similar filename. Move every manually added file out temporarily and restore the jar from the official pack or a confirmed compatible release. A matching filename alone does not prove that the archive’s internal metadata is correct.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe server starts, but only one player is rejected
That pattern usually points to the affected client’s profile rather than the server’s core files. Have the player test with a clean profile, then compare their client jar list with a client that can join. Remove local additions before changing the server.
Several mods are listed in the rejection
Start with the first named failure and its earliest associated log entry. Fixing every listed mod at once can hide the cause and introduce new version differences. After each controlled change, restart the server and repeat the same clean-client test.
When to escalate
If the official pack files, Forge baseline, mod jars, dependencies and optional additions have all been checked and the rejection persists, preserve the new logs rather than repeatedly reinstalling. Send the exact rejection text, the named mod and version, the RLCraft release, Minecraft and Forge versions, the client/server jar comparison and the complete server-log section around the failure to the relevant mod or pack support channel.
CurseForge’s rejection guidance specifically asks for the exact rejection message and the submitted file when automated advice is insufficient. That information lets maintainers distinguish a duplicate, missing manifest reference, wrong loader or dependency problem from a genuine mod defect.

Final checklist
- Both sides use the same RLCraft release, preferably the matching v2.9.3 client and server-pack files when that is the server’s baseline.
- Both sides run Minecraft 1.12.2 with the compatible Forge 14.23.5.2860 build for the listed v2.9.x pack.
- The complete rejection and latest server log were saved before edits.
- Old
ModsandConfigcontents were removed before copying a clean server pack. - There is one compatible jar for each required mod, with no duplicate, wrong-loader or missing dependency.
- A named mod was replaced or rolled back on both client and server using the exact compatible build.
- E3 OptiFine, VanillaFix, BetterFPS and other optional additions were removed during isolation.
enable-command-block=trueis saved inserver.properties, followed by a full restart.- The final test used a clean client profile.
Bottom line
RLCraft rejects a connection when Forge cannot reconcile the client and server mod environments. Treat the named mod and its log entry as your starting point, restore both installations to the same official 1.12.2 Forge pack, remove duplicates and incompatible extras, and make any rollback on both sides. This method fixes the underlying mismatch instead of masking it with unrelated file changes.
