If PUBG reports “Cannot find dxgi.dll,” first remove ReShade and its injected files from PUBG’s Win64 folder—especially dxgi.dll—then verify the game files in Steam. Do not download a replacement DLL from a random website. If the error remains, update Windows and your graphics driver, remove custom launch options and overclocks, and follow PUBG’s clean-reinstall and support procedure.
What the PUBG dxgi.dll error means
dxgi.dll is the name of a Windows graphics-interface library. Microsoft describes DirectX as Windows components that let software, particularly games, work directly with video and audio hardware. That does not mean PUBG expects you to download a standalone copy of this file.

For this specific PUBG launch error, PUBG Support’s dedicated article identifies ReShade as the cause: ReShade injects files into the game directory, and its dxgi.dll can conflict with PUBG or its BattlEye anti-cheat checks. BattlEye separately lists d3d9.dll, dxgi.dll and dsound.dll as files that should not remain in the game directory when blocked-file problems occur.

The file at issue is normally in PUBG’s installation directory, not in the Windows system folder. A default Steam installation uses:

Your Steam library may be on another drive or in a differently named library folder, so use Steam’s “Browse local files” command rather than assuming the default path.
Do not download dxgi.dll from a DLL website
A random DLL download is not PUBG’s recommended repair. A downloaded file may be modified, the wrong version or placed in the wrong directory; it can also leave an anti-cheat-protected game with files that do not match the installed build. PUBG’s supported approach is to remove the injected ReShade files and let Steam restore legitimate game files.
Never delete a Windows copy of dxgi.dll from C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 as part of this fix. The cleanup below concerns PUBG’s own folder only.

Fix PUBG Cannot find dxgi.dll in the safest order
1. Exit PUBG and Steam completely
- Close PUBG.
- Exit Steam from Steam > Exit, not just by closing the window.
- Open Task Manager with
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. If PUBG, Steam or a ReShade process is still running, select it and choose End task.
Closing the programs first prevents an injected file from being in use while you remove it.
2. Remove ReShade and its injected files
- In Steam, right-click PUBG in your Library and choose Manage > Browse local files. This opens the correct installation folder even if PUBG is not on the C: drive.
- Open
TslGameBinariesWin64. - If you installed ReShade, uninstall it using its own uninstaller when available. Otherwise remove the ReShade files it placed in this Win64 folder, including
dxgi.dlland the ReShade preset or configuration files you recognize. - For BattlEye blocked-file symptoms, check that the game directory does not still contain ReShade’s
d3d9.dll,dxgi.dllordsound.dll. Remove only files associated with the ReShade installation; do not remove unrelated PUBG executables or Windows system files.
ReShade is the specific cause named in PUBG’s dedicated dxgi.dll article, so this is the highest-value first step. Start PUBG again after the cleanup. If it launches, do not reinstall ReShade until you have confirmed that the current PUBG and anti-cheat rules allow the version you want to use.
3. Clear custom Steam launch options
- Open Steam Library, right-click PUBG, and select Properties.
- On the General page, find Launch Options.
- Delete every command in the field, then close the Properties window.
PUBG’s current crash guide, updated February 26, 2026, warns that old launch commands can cause problems. Test the game with a completely empty field before adding any option back.

4. Verify PUBG’s files in Steam
- Open Steam > Library, right-click PUBG, and choose Properties.
- Select Installed Files. Older Steam layouts may label this page Local Files.
- Choose Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for Steam to finish. It checks for missing or corrupt files and replaces files that do not match the installed version.
Verification is preferable to immediately reinstalling the entire game because it normally preserves the installation and downloads only what Steam determines is necessary. A verification result that reports files were reacquired is expected; restart Steam and test PUBG afterward.

5. Update Windows and your graphics driver
PUBG lists outdated or corrupt graphics drivers as a potential source of launch and crash problems. Install all available Windows updates through Settings > Windows Update, restart the computer, and then install the current driver for your GPU from its manufacturer’s official support channel. Choose the driver for the exact graphics card model and Windows edition.
Do not replace the game’s dxgi.dll with a graphics-driver DLL downloaded from an unrelated site. Drivers and game files are repaired through their respective official update mechanisms.
6. Check DirectX with DxDiag
- Press the Windows key and search for
dxdiag. - Open DirectX Diagnostic Tool. Accept the prompt if Windows asks whether it should check digitally signed drivers.
- On the System tab, read the DirectX Version entry.
- Review the Display tab for graphics-driver problems and save the report if you may need PUBG Support.
Microsoft says Windows 10 and Windows 11 receive the latest DirectX available for that Windows version through Windows Update. If BattlEye or DxDiag indicates damaged DirectX components, use Microsoft’s official DirectX repair or installation guidance rather than a DLL-download site. Installing a newer DirectX version cannot make an incompatible injected ReShade file safe.

8. Perform PUBG’s clean reinstall only if needed
A clean reinstall is slower and removes local game data, so use it after ReShade removal, launch-option cleanup and Steam verification have failed.
- Uninstall PUBG from Steam.
- Delete
%localappdata%TslGame. This removes local PUBG data; back up anything you specifically need first. - Delete
BEService_pubg.exefromC:Program Files (x86)Common FilesBattlEyeif it remains. - Delete the remaining PUBG installation folder in your Steam library.
- In Steam, open Steam > Settings > Downloads and choose Clear Download Cache. Steam will restart and may require you to sign in again.
- Restart Steam and install PUBG again.
After reinstalling, launch the unmodified game before restoring overlays, ReShade or other injectors. This creates a clean baseline for identifying whether an add-on is responsible.
9. Send PUBG Support useful diagnostics
If the error survives a clean reinstall, open a PUBG Support request and include the exact wording of the error, a screenshot, and the files PUBG asks for:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- A

%localappdata%TslGameSavedCrashes. - A description of when the error appears and which fixes you already tried.
Providing these details avoids a generic first response and gives support information about your Windows, DirectX and graphics-driver environment.

Common mistakes that make the error harder to solve
- Deleting the wrong file: PUBG’s injected copy is inside its Win64 directory. Do not remove Windows’ system copies of
dxgi.dll. - Keeping an old launch command: Even after removing ReShade, a stale command can prevent a clean test. Empty Launch Options completely.
- Reinstalling before verifying: Steam verification may replace a damaged or missing file without the time and local-data loss of a full reinstall.
- Restoring overlays too soon: Test the unmodified game first. Add overlays or injectors individually so you know which change affects startup.
- Assuming DxDiag alone fixes the game: DxDiag identifies the DirectX environment; it does not remove ReShade’s injected DLL from PUBG’s folder.
- Ignoring the library location: If PUBG is installed on another drive, the default C: path will be wrong. Steam’s Browse local files command reveals the active folder.
Optional shortcut after the manual fixes
Outbyte PC Repair is an optional shortcut for checking some broken Windows elements, invalid redirects and shared DLL-file issues after you have followed PUBG’s official steps. It also offers settings tweaks, temporary-file cleanup, privacy and vulnerability checks, a real-time boost, file shredding and an app-crash log; results vary, it does not repair every crash, and it complements rather than replaces antivirus software. It runs on Windows 11, 10, 8 and 7 with a free trial by category of at least two days, followed by a paid subscription.
Bottom line
For PUBG’s “Cannot find dxgi.dll” message, remove ReShade and its injected dxgi.dll from the game’s Win64 folder first. Then clear launch options and verify Steam files before moving to Windows and graphics-driver updates, DirectX diagnostics, default hardware settings and, only if necessary, a clean reinstall. If none of those steps works, send PUBG Support the screenshot, DxDiag report and latest crash dump instead of downloading another DLL.
