First identify whether Old School RuneScape (OSRS) is rejecting your account, failing to load its client, or losing its connection to a game world. Those problems have different fixes: account errors belong in Jagex’s account-recovery flow, while loading and connection errors call for client or network checks. Start with the least disruptive checks below, and use the exact error message to choose the right path.
Identify what is failing
Use the scope of the problem to narrow it down before changing settings. An account-specific rejection points toward login or recovery; a launcher that hangs before the game opens points toward the client; and a game that opens but cannot reach a world points toward the connection or world.

- Account access: Your password, registered email, authenticator, or account recovery is involved. Use Jagex’s “Can’t log in?” support page, which separates Jagex Account recovery from legacy-account options.
- Client or loading: The official client or launcher will not open, hangs at “Loading resources,” shows a black screen or graphics initialization error, or fails before you can choose a world.
- World connection: The client opens, but you see “Unable to connect” or “No Response from server. Please try again using a different world,” or you are disconnected after entering the game.
A connection error alone does not show that your account has been compromised or locked. If the problem happens on a website rather than in the game, compare access from another browser, device, or connection before assuming the game account is at fault.

If login attempts are being rejected
“Too many login attempts from your address”
Jagex describes this error as commonly associated with high traffic. Stop retrying and wait at least 30 minutes before another attempt; repeated attempts can make the situation worse. See Jagex’s guidance for “Too many login attempts from your address”.

If waiting does not resolve it, follow the options on that support page. Jagex mentions trying the Jagex Launcher or Steam, using an alternative connection, sticking to official clients, and avoiding frequent login/logout activity. An alternative connection can help distinguish a network-specific problem from one affecting the account or service.
“Access Blocked”
Jagex says “Access Blocked” means the connection was not allowed; it does not mean the account itself was blocked or locked. Its login-attempt troubleshooting page advises checking VPN use, the connection, browser settings, device time zone, and software updates. Make one change at a time so you can tell which check matters.
Password, email, or authenticator trouble
Use the account-type options on Jagex’s “Can’t log in?” page if you cannot provide the password, access the registered email, use the authenticator, or complete recovery. Do not keep cycling through guesses when the issue is account recovery rather than world connectivity.

If the client will not load or respond
Jagex’s client troubleshooting guide covers a client that will not open, stalls at “Loading resources,” shows graphics initialization errors or a black screen, and mobile loading problems. Start by updating the operating system, relevant programs, and graphics drivers. If files in the client cache are damaged, clearing the cache may help; use Jagex’s current instructions rather than deleting unrelated game or account data.
Mac errors: “Failed to login. Please try again” or “No Response from server. Please try again using a different world”
For these specific messages on Mac, Jagex’s client guidance says to update macOS. If the error remains, continue through the same official guide rather than treating this particular remedy as a general fix for every login problem.
Brave browser and an infinite mobile loading screen
Jagex lists a Brave setting as a remedy for an infinite mobile loading screen: enable “Allow app links to open in apps outside of Brave.” Brave’s menus can change, so consult the current Jagex client issues page for the current route to that setting.

If OSRS cannot connect to a world
Try these checks in order. Jagex’s common connection solutions recommend checking VPN use, restarting network equipment, testing a wired connection, choosing a nearby world, flushing DNS, and checking firewall permissions.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Temporarily disconnect from a VPN. Jagex warns that a VPN can interfere with access to its services. If you are troubleshooting a connection problem, try the official client without the VPN, then reconnect it afterward if you wish.
- Restart your modem or router. Power cycling the network equipment can clear a temporary connection problem. Wait for it to reconnect before testing the game again.
- Test a wired connection if possible. If you are on Wi-Fi, connect by Ethernet to see whether wireless instability is involved. Jagex recommends trying a direct modem connection where possible; a cable is only useful for diagnosing a network path, not account recovery, a service outage, or a client fault.
- Choose a nearby world. A closer world may reduce connection instability. If one world fails, test another nearby world to see whether the problem is limited to that world.
- Flush DNS. Follow the operating-system-specific steps in Jagex’s connection guide. The guide also includes Windows commands to reset Winsock and IPv4/IPv6 TCP/IP; treat those as advanced steps and reproduce the current commands directly from Jagex’s page rather than relying on remembered commands.
- Check firewall permissions. Confirm that the game and launcher are not being blocked, as described in the next section.
Close applications using substantial system resources if the device is short on memory. Jagex also recommends its official clients when troubleshooting connection issues.

For router firewall configuration, Jagex lists ports 443, 43594, and 43595. Router interfaces vary by make and model; use the manufacturer’s instructions and do not change settings you do not understand. If you are unsure whether a rule is needed or how to configure it, ask the router or network administrator rather than opening unrelated ports.
Tell connection lag from graphics or input lag
High ping usually indicates a connection problem between your system and Jagex’s servers. Stuttering or poor graphics can instead come from outdated graphics drivers or hardware that does not meet recommended specifications. The symptoms can feel similar, so check whether the client reports high latency and whether the problem persists on other worlds before changing graphics settings.
For possible service disruption, check Jagex’s latency guidance and current service updates. Service status changes over time; a troubleshooting guide cannot establish whether OSRS is up or down at the moment you read it.
Quick Recap
Use the pattern of failures to narrow the cause
- Only one account fails: Follow the account-specific recovery route or the instructions for the exact login error.
- Only one world fails: Try another nearby world. If the other world works, that points toward a world-specific or route-specific connection issue rather than a general client failure.
- Multiple accounts fail on one device or network: Check the VPN, router, firewall, and connection before attempting account recovery.
- The same account fails across devices or networks: Check Jagex’s account-login support and service updates; a local network change is less likely to explain a failure that follows the account.
- The launcher or client fails before world selection: Work through the client issue guide, including updates and cache troubleshooting.
- Other sites or apps also fail on the same connection: Investigate the device or network connection rather than assuming OSRS-specific account trouble.
