If OBS is dropping frames during a YouTube Live store promo, first check which OBS counter is rising. Network dropped frames usually mean the connection to YouTube’s ingest server is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate; rendering lag and encoding lag point instead to work the computer cannot keep up with. Identify the counter, then follow the matching fixes below.
Identify what OBS means by “dropped frames”
Open View → Stats in OBS while streaming, or review the session log afterward. OBS reports network dropped frames separately from rendering lag and encoding lag. The distinction matters: changing your ISP or router will not fix a scene that overloads the GPU, and reducing scene complexity will not repair an unstable internet route.

- Network dropped frames: the connection between your computer and the remote ingest server is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. OBS’s Help Portal describes an increasing dropped-frames counter with a yellow or red connection indicator this way: OBS dropped frames troubleshooting.
- Rendering lag: OBS is not rendering frames quickly enough, commonly because the GPU is overloaded.
- Encoding lag: the selected encoder cannot encode frames quickly enough under the current workload.
OBS’s connection guide, published September 30, 2024, says dropped frames or intermittent disconnections indicate a network issue between the computer and the remote stream ingest server. That identifies the broad class of problem, not whether the cause is your Wi‑Fi, router, ISP, route to YouTube, or bitrate. Read OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide.
Fix network dropped frames first
1. Lower the bitrate to match stable upload capacity
In OBS, open Settings → Output and reduce the video bitrate. OBS suggests using 75% of total upload speed as a starting point; treat that as general guidance, not a guaranteed safe setting. Use sustained, dependable upload capacity rather than a brief speed-test peak, and remain within YouTube’s applicable stream limits. No upload measurement or YouTube Studio stream-health result is available for this store, so there is no evidence-based exact bitrate to prescribe.
#1 Best Overall
- 40 Gbps 2000 Mhz High Speed: The Cat 8 ethernet cable support max. 40 Gbps data transfer and 2000 MHz Brandwith, ideal for gaming and streaming, greatly improving upload and download speed, sound, image and resolution quality
- Excellent Anti-interference: The ethernet cable comes with 4 shielded foiled twisted pairs (F/FTP), pure copper core and gold-plated RJ45 connector, reducing interference, noise and crosstalk, making network speed faster and more stable
- Marvelous Durability: Internet cable wrapped with quality cotton braided cord, which makes the LAN cable stronger and more durable. The test proves that this internet cable can be bent at least 10000 times without broken, very suitable for long-term use
- PoE Supported: All lengths of ethernet cord can support the PoE power supply function except 65ft. You don't need additional power supply when installing a PoE camera, which is very convenient and safe
- Wide Compatibility: With the RJ45 Connector, network cable can be perfectly compatible with computers, laptops, modems, routers, PS5, X-Box and other networking devices. It can also be fully backward compatible with Cat7, Cat6e, Cat6, Cat5e, Cat5
After changing it, stream a private or otherwise low-risk test and watch the network dropped-frames counter. If it continues to rise, lower the bitrate again or investigate the connection path. A lower bitrate may reduce image detail, so verify that prices, product labels, and promo text remain legible on a phone-sized screen.
2. Test Ethernet if the computer is on Wi‑Fi
Connect the streaming computer to the router with Ethernet and repeat the test under otherwise similar conditions. OBS notes that Wi‑Fi can be unstable for streaming. A wired test can help isolate the local wireless link, but it is not a guaranteed fix: congestion or packet loss elsewhere on the network route may remain. If a cable run is practical, a Cat6 Ethernet cable is one option for making this test.

3. Check software and network configuration
- Temporarily test without a VPN if one is in use; VPN routing can add another variable between OBS and YouTube.
- Check whether firewall or antivirus software is interfering. If testing shows security software is implicated, add an OBS exception and re-enable the protection rather than leaving it disabled.
- Look for bundled network-priority or “optimization” software that may be changing traffic handling.
- Update the network adapter driver using the computer or motherboard manufacturer’s support page.
- As a diagnostic comparison, try another available service/server where appropriate. A successful test elsewhere may help isolate a service-specific route, but it does not itself fix delivery to YouTube.
OBS also documents Windows-specific network optimizations and TCP pacing options. Its guide discusses using Default for Bind to IP and trying IPv4-only as a test, with a reminder to revert if it makes no difference. Menu availability can vary by OBS version and protocol; follow the guide’s cautions rather than changing several network options at once.
4. Use dynamic bitrate only as a fallback
OBS can adjust bitrate dynamically when network congestion occurs. This may reduce frame drops, but it does not repair the underlying connection and can lower stream quality. Enable it only as a mitigation if a fluctuating connection is otherwise disrupting the promo, then assess whether the changing picture quality is acceptable for viewers.

Fix rendering or encoding lag
If the network counter is not rising but rendering or encoding lag is, focus on local computer load. Make one change at a time and watch the matching OBS counter.
- On Windows, run OBS as administrator. OBS’s encoding-performance guide recommends this as an initial step.
- Close other GPU-heavy applications. Avoid running games, video editors, or other demanding graphics workloads during the stream.
- Reduce output resolution or frame rate. If 60 fps is not keeping up, test 30 fps. Lowering resolution also reduces the work required to render and encode.
- Simplify scenes and scene collections. Remove sources and transitions that are not needed for the store promo.
- Reduce costly filters and browser sources. Animated overlays and browser content can add rendering load; test a simpler scene to see whether the lag counter improves.
These steps address local performance. If network dropped frames are rising too, handle that as a separate issue rather than assuming one adjustment will solve both.

If viewers report buffering but OBS shows no dropped frames
Broadcaster-side dropped frames and viewer-side buffering are not the same symptom. OBS notes that viewers can buffer even when the broadcaster is not dropping frames because they use different devices, locations, and internet connections. Confirm the OBS counters before changing your network setup. If the stream is clean at the broadcaster end, consider whether the bitrate or resolution is too demanding for some viewers; a lower setting may improve accessibility. YouTube transcoding can give viewers quality choices, as described in the OBS guide, but do not assume every viewer’s device or connection will play smoothly.
What to record for an India-specific diagnosis
There is not enough information here to attribute the problem to an India-wide YouTube issue, a particular ISP, or a city. The store’s location, provider, router, connection type, sustained upload, packet loss, ingest selection, OBS version, bitrate, and session log are unknown. To make a useful support request or compare connection options, record these details from one affected session:

- City and internet provider
- Whether the streaming PC used Wi‑Fi or Ethernet
- OBS version, selected YouTube server/protocol, and configured bitrate
- A sustained upload result taken under conditions similar to the stream
- Which OBS Statistics counter rose, and whether the connection indicator changed color
- The OBS log from that session and any relevant YouTube Studio stream-health information
For any later connection comparison, look at sustained upload headroom above the stream bitrate, packet loss, wired-versus-Wi‑Fi behavior, and route consistency to the selected ingest—not a provider ranking without measurements from the store’s location.
