How to Fix Microsoft Store Error 0x000001F7 on Windows 10 and 11

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If Microsoft Store shows “Try that again” or “Something happened on our end” with error code 0x000001F7, start with the low-risk fixes: check that Windows has the correct automatic time and region, run wsreset.exe, install pending Windows updates, and then repair the Store app. Reset it only if Repair does not help. Avoid leaving your PC clock set to an incorrect date; that old workaround is not an established Microsoft fix.

What does Microsoft Store error 0x000001F7 mean?

Microsoft does not publish a dedicated explanation of error 0x000001F7 in its general Store support documentation. Reports associate it with the Store failing to load a page or complete an app download or installation, but the code alone does not identify a confirmed cause. Microsoft Q&A reports describe the symptom; they are not an official error-code definition.

Possible troubleshooting categories include a temporary Store-side issue, stale cache, incorrect time or region settings, damaged Store app data, pending updates, an account/session problem, or network filtering. These are possibilities, not a definitive Microsoft taxonomy. The steps below are for Microsoft Store on Windows 10 and Windows 11; Xbox has a separate troubleshooting path.

Check whether the problem is temporary or local

  1. Close Microsoft Store, wait briefly, and open it again. If the error clears on its own, that does not prove the cache was damaged.
  2. Try the web Store at microsoft.com/store, or try opening Store on another device. A working website does not prove the Windows app is healthy, but it helps distinguish a Store-app problem from a broader access issue.
  3. If possible, connect the PC to a different network, such as a phone hotspot, and try again. If the Store works there, investigate the original network, proxy, VPN, firewall, or filtering policy.
  4. Restart Windows before moving to more involved app recovery steps.

Do not assume Microsoft’s servers are down based on this code alone. If several Microsoft services or users are affected, retry later; the available reports do not establish a current service outage.

Confirm date, time, time zone, and region

Microsoft includes time and location settings in its Store troubleshooting guidance. Correcting a clock that is genuinely out of sync is worthwhile, but setting the date several days backward is an old community-reported workaround—not a current, supported fix. An incorrect date can interfere with certificates, sign-in, Windows Update, and file timestamps.

Windows 11

  1. Open Start > Settings > Time & language > Date & time.
  2. Turn on Set time automatically, confirm the correct Time zone, and select Sync now if it is available.
  3. Open Start > Settings > Time & language > Language & region and confirm the correct country or region.
  4. Close and reopen Microsoft Store.

Windows 10

Open Start > Settings > Time & Language > Date & time, enable automatic time, and confirm the time zone. Check the country or region under Settings > Time & Language > Region. Labels can vary by Windows build. Microsoft’s Store guidance covers these checks at Microsoft Store doesn’t open.

Reset the Store cache with wsreset.exe

wsreset.exe clears the Microsoft Store cache; it does not uninstall Store or delete personal files. Microsoft documents it as a Store troubleshooting step.

  • Windows 11 Pro
  1. Close Microsoft Store.
  2. Press Windows key + R to open Run.
  3. Type wsreset.exe and select OK.
  4. Wait for the blank Command Prompt window to close. It may remain open for about ten seconds; Store should then open automatically.
  5. Retry the page, download, or installation that produced the error.

If nothing appears to happen, confirm that you ran the command from the Run dialog, wait for the process to finish, and restart Windows. If the error persists, continue to updates and app recovery rather than repeatedly waiting on the command.

Install Windows and Store updates

Windows 11

  1. Open Start > Settings > Windows Update.
  2. Select Check for updates, install available updates, and restart the PC.

Windows 10

  1. Open Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  2. Select Check for updates, install available updates, and restart.

If Microsoft Store opens, select Library > Get updates to check for Store app updates. Microsoft notes that Windows 10 versions below build 15063 need updating or may use the web Store; this is a legacy Windows 10 limitation, not a Windows 11 requirement. See Microsoft’s Store guidance.

Repair Microsoft Store, then reset it if needed

Try Repair first. If it does not resolve the problem, Reset is the next built-in option. Save work and close Store-related apps before either operation.

  • Multitasking is easy with 16GB of RAM
  • Equipped with a blazing fast Core i5 2.00 GHz processor.

Windows 11

  1. Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
  2. Search for Microsoft Store, select its three-dot menu, then choose Advanced options.
  3. Select Repair and test Store.
  4. If the error remains, return to the same page and select Reset.

Windows 10

  1. Open Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
  2. Select Microsoft Store, then Advanced options.
  3. Select Repair if available, test Store, and use Reset only if needed.

Repair attempts to fix the app with less disruption. Reset clears Store app data and may mean signing in again or restoring preferences; it is not intended to remove personal documents or purchased apps. Purchases are associated with the Microsoft account. Exact controls vary by Windows version and installation. Microsoft describes these recovery options in Fix problems with apps from Microsoft Store.

Check the network and Store account

  • Temporarily disconnect a VPN and check whether a proxy is configured. Try another network if available.
  • If Store works on a hotspot but not on your usual connection, investigate that network’s proxy, DNS filtering, firewall, router, or ISP path. Restarting the router is reasonable if other services fail too.
  • If Store opens but the failure occurs during a download, purchase, or library sync, select the account/profile icon, sign out, close and reopen Store, then sign in with the account that owns the app or purchase.
  • On a work- or school-managed PC, an administrator may restrict Store access or prevent changes to app settings. Contact IT rather than attempting to bypass the policy.

A DNS change or netsh winsock reset is not a default fix for this code. Winsock reset is more appropriate when Windows has broader networking symptoms and requires a restart. Do not use network resets simply because one Store page fails.

If only one app or game fails

If Store itself opens and only one listing or install fails, investigate that app before resetting the whole Store. Microsoft says an app may be unavailable because of country or region, device compatibility, family settings, removal from the Store, or use of a local account. A pending restart or account authorization can also affect installation.

If Microsoft Store is missing

A missing Store app is a different issue from error 0x000001F7. Search for Microsoft Store from Start first; if it appears, pin it to Start or the taskbar. If it does not appear, a local account or an administrator’s policy on a managed device may explain why it is unavailable. Do not download Store installers from unofficial sites. Microsoft’s current guidance is at Can’t find Microsoft Store app.

Use the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter where available

Microsoft’s documented legacy troubleshooter path applies to Windows 10 installations where the option is present: open Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters, select Windows Store Apps, and choose Run the troubleshooter. Windows 11 does not necessarily show this same troubleshooter; Microsoft’s current general Store-app guidance emphasizes updates, Store updates, Repair/Reset, and Get Help instead. See Microsoft’s Store error guidance.

When to contact Microsoft Support

If the error remains after time and region checks, wsreset.exe, updates, Repair/Reset, and network testing, use Windows Get Help or Microsoft Support. Provide the exact code, Windows version/build, whether Store fails to open or only fails for a particular app, whether the web Store works, and which steps changed the result.

A full Windows reset is not a routine fix for this Store error. Consider Windows recovery only after ordinary Store-specific options and support, and review Microsoft’s recovery options first: reset or reinstall choices can remove apps and settings, and some can cause data loss. Avoid broad PowerShell commands that re-register or remove built-in app packages unless Microsoft Support gives you a version-appropriate procedure; they can affect more than Store and generate additional errors. Windows Store steps in this article do not transfer directly to Xbox.
