The fixes are different; use the specific message and the report for the failed run rather than applying a generic Jira fix.
Identify the migration route before troubleshooting

These diagnostics are described in Atlassian Support’s JCMA troubleshooting and data-preparation guidance and its Jira CSV import documentation. If you are unsure which route was used, establish that first: the same symptom can have different causes depending on the migration method.
Capture the failure details before changing data
For a JCMA migration
- Open the affected migration plan and review its reports and logs.
- Download the error log and inspect the pre-migration reports. If a
RequiresAttention.csvfile is present, review the listed entities and values. - Search the exact error code or message in Atlassian’s troubleshooting material. Base changes on the affected entity and the error’s stated cause.
For a CSV or space import
- Retrieve the final import error log from the completion screen or from the email or download offered for that import.
- Match each error to the relevant source row and field mapping, then correct the source file or mapping and run the import again.
- If the workflow offers it, save the import configuration for a later import so you can reuse the field mapping.
Do not treat the mapping preview as a full-file validation: Atlassian’s CSV import documentation says Jira checks the first 30 rows during field mapping and warns, “Your import can fail if errors are present after 30 rows.” That 30-row figure describes the preview check, not a limit on the size of an import.
Use JCMA data-preparation checks to repair identified data defects
When a JCMA pre-migration check identifies invalid or missing data, follow the remediation stated for that check. Atlassian documents interface-based fixes for some problems and, for others, a downloadable remediation CSV packaged in a ZIP file.

- Open the relevant check’s report and identify exactly which entities and values it flags.
- Where the report provides a remediation file, supply the valid ID or value it requires, then upload the corrected file and apply the fix.
- Rerun the check and confirm that the identified issue is cleared before continuing.
Examples in Atlassian’s guidance include issues with a missing issue type or default priority, boards or filters without owners, missing references, invalid status or issue type, and invalid JQL. Correct only the entities and values named by the check; do not make broad data changes based on the example list.
Match common import errors to their actual cause
Component conflict between projects
For the documented project-component import conflict, Atlassian identifies cross-project component use as the cause: Jira Cloud does not permit that arrangement. Check whether the affected project uses a component belonging to another project, then resolve the conflict according to the component configuration and the exact error.

Parent-link error involving same-level tasks
For the documented CSV parent-link error, same-level task issues had been mapped as parent and child. That relationship does not match the hierarchy Jira expects. Represent a relationship between same-level tasks with an issue link instead; reserve parent relationships for issues at an appropriate parent-child level. Check the specific row and mapping identified by the error log before changing other relationships.
Resolve a documented 403 during sprint or board migration
For the specific JCMA sprint or board import failure documented as 403 Forbidden, Atlassian’s troubleshooting guidance calls for both permissions: the migration operator must be an administrator on the source server instance and a site administrator on the destination Jira Cloud site. Verify both before retrying that migration.

A 403 can have other causes. This permission diagnosis applies to the documented sprint/board case; use the exact error details for any different 403 rather than assuming the same fix.
Investigate app migration failures in the app logs
If the failed portion involves a Marketplace app, inspect the app migration progress logs and the error details for that app. JCMA troubleshooting documents app migrations that can stall or fail; when the logs point to app-specific behavior, contact the app vendor for diagnosis. Avoid treating an app transfer problem as a Jira issue-data problem unless the logs support that conclusion.

Apply the service-update fix only for the matching message
For the exact message “We are currently updating the migration service,” Atlassian’s article updated September 26, 2025, instructs users to check the Base URL and renew the authentication token. Confirm that the message matches your failure and follow the article’s current steps; this is not a general remedy for other migration errors.

Prefer the supported remediation interface, CSV correction, or documented fix for the exact error. If troubleshooting leads to modifying the Jira database directly, back up the data first and test the SQL change on a staging environment when possible. Atlassian’s troubleshooting guidance explicitly advises backing up before database modification.
