Start with one change at a time: use Larger Text for small lettering, Display Zoom for a generally undersized interface, and contrast or button options when controls are hard to distinguish. Menu names can vary, so search Settings for the feature name if a path differs.
Make text larger or bolder
For small or thin lettering, open Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Larger Text, then move the slider. To see additional size choices, turn on Larger Accessibility Sizes on the Larger Text screen. You can also enable Bold Text under Display & Text Size if heavier lettering is easier to read.

Apple also documents a Text Size control in Control Center for changing text size while you are using an app. The exact steps to add or access that control can vary by software version; search Settings for “Text Size” if you cannot find it.

Enlarge icons and other interface elements
If text, icons, buttons, and other parts of the interface all feel too small, try Display Zoom. It enlarges interface elements as well as text, so it addresses a different problem from changing text size alone.

Depending on the guide and software version, the setting may appear under Settings > Display & Brightness or another display-related menu. Search Settings for “Display Zoom” if the path on your iPhone differs. Choose the larger view and apply the change when prompted.
Make buttons and controls easier to identify
Add visible boundaries
Turn on Show Borders to add outlines around onscreen controls and buttons. If that option is not available or does not provide enough definition, look for Button Shapes, which makes button affordances clearer.

Separate foreground content from its background
If text or controls get lost against a background, try Increase Contrast to strengthen the distinction between foreground and background. Reduce Transparency makes transparent backgrounds opaque, which can also make content easier to distinguish.

On supported current software, Apple describes the Tinted Liquid Glass appearance as more opaque and higher contrast than Clear. Apple says Reduced Transparency or Increased Contrast must be off to change the Liquid Glass look. If the appearance option is unavailable, search Settings for “Liquid Glass” or use the contrast settings instead.

Reduce reliance on color alone
When an item’s meaning depends on color, turn on Differentiate Without Color to provide alternatives to color-only cues. For switches, On/Off Labels adds a line-and-circle visual cue, so their state is not conveyed by color alone. These options are generally found in Accessibility display or color settings; search Settings by name if you do not see them in the same menu.
Soften bright colors without changing size
If the screen feels too bright, Reduce White Point tones down bright colors. It does not enlarge text or interface elements, so use it for brightness rather than readability caused by small content.

Choose the setting that matches the symptom

These settings address different needs; Apple does not identify one combination as best for everyone. Change one setting at a time so you can tell which adjustment helps. If a change makes the display less comfortable, return to that setting and turn it off or move its slider back.

When the setting is in a different menu
Apple’s current guides do not use identical menu labels for every display control: some direct readers to Display & Brightness, while others use Appearance or Accessibility paths. The exact availability can also depend on iPhone model and software version. Use Settings search with the feature’s name—such as “Larger Text,” “Show Borders,” or “Reduce Transparency”—rather than assuming every iPhone shows the same path.
