How to Fix Images Not Showing on a Wix Website

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If images are missing from a published Wix site, first open the page in a private or incognito window. If they appear there, the cause is likely local browser data or an extension; clear the browser cache and test again. If they remain missing, compare another browser, device, and network before changing the site. For images missing in the Wix Editor or a gallery—or uploads that fail—check the file and gallery type in Wix’s Media Manager, then follow the upload error and isolate file, storage, or connection problems.

First find out where the images are missing

The right fix depends on whether the problem affects one viewer, the published site generally, the Wix Editor, a gallery, or the upload process itself. Start with the published page and compare it across viewing conditions. Wix identifies local browser issues as a likely explanation when someone cannot view images on a site, but that does not establish the cause in any particular case.

  1. Open the published page in a private or incognito window. If images appear there but not in your usual window, browser cache or an extension is a likely cause.
  2. Try another supported browser and its latest available version. This helps distinguish an issue tied to one browser or its stored data from a site-side problem.
  3. Try another device and network. If the page works on a different network, a firewall, antivirus product, DNS setting, or network filter may be blocking resources.
  4. Check the Wix Editor separately. If the published page works but an image is missing only in the Editor, investigate the Editor, the gallery, or the media file rather than treating it as a general live-site outage.
  5. Note whether the image is missing or its upload is failing. An upload error calls for checks of the file, size, storage, and connection.

These comparisons are diagnostic: they narrow the scope without immediately changing the site or disabling protections permanently.

If images appear in private browsing but not normally

Clear cached browser data

A private window usually starts without the same ordinary browsing session data. If the image appears there, clear the browser cache in the regular profile, reopen the page, and check again. Browser menus differ, so use the current cache-clearing option for the browser you use. You may need to sign in to websites again after clearing data.

Check extensions and security software

Temporarily disable browser extensions or add-ons, then reload the page. If that restores the images, re-enable extensions one at a time to identify the one interfering with the page. If necessary, temporarily test whether security software is blocking the content. Treat that only as an isolation step: do not leave security protections disabled as a permanent fix. Wix also notes that network or security restrictions can affect access to URLs needed by Wix.

If the problem depends on the device or network

Compare the same published page on another device and a different network. A school, university, library, government facility, or other public network may restrict URLs that Wix needs. Antivirus products, firewalls, DNS filtering, and institutional network rules are other possible sources of interference.

  • Works on another network: ask the network administrator whether Wix-related resources are filtered, or review the network’s firewall, DNS, and security settings with the responsible administrator.
  • Works in another browser on the same device: focus on the original browser’s cache, extensions, and version.
  • Fails across devices and networks: continue with the Wix-side checks below and collect evidence for Wix support if needed.

Do not infer that the Wix site is broken—or that a network is at fault—from one test alone. The comparison is useful because it shows which conditions change the result.

If images are missing in the Editor or a gallery

Check the file type and size

Wix’s gallery guidance lists JPG, PNG, JPEG, JPE, JFIF, BMP, HEIC, HEIF, TIFF, TIF, WEBP, JPEG 2000, and RAW. It gives a maximum image size of 25 MB. Only certain JPEG 2000 and RAW files are supported, so a listed extension does not guarantee that every file of that type will work. Animated WEBP is not supported; Wix says it is automatically reverted to a static image.

If a file is near or above the published limit, try a smaller copy. If a listed format still fails, export or convert a copy to a commonly supported format such as JPG or PNG and add that copy to the gallery. Keep the original so you can undo the change. Because supported formats and limits can change, check Wix’s current gallery guidance if your file meets these details but still fails.

Check whether the gallery type is retired

Wix recommends replacing a retired gallery with a gallery available in the Add panel. Do not assume an older Editor gallery can be migrated directly: Wix says Editor galleries cannot currently be migrated to Pro Galleries. If the gallery itself is the issue, choose an available replacement and set it up rather than relying on a one-click conversion.

Inspect the uploaded media in Media Manager

In the Wix Editor, open Media Manager > Site Files and inspect the file’s details. Wix exposes information including file type, size, and resolution. Compare those details with the file you intended to upload. This can reveal that a different, oversized, or incorrectly typed file is present; it does not by itself establish why a file will not display.

If uploading an image fails

Start with the exact error message shown by Wix, then isolate the likely cause. Upload failures can involve an unsupported format, a mismatch between the file extension and its real type, a corrupted or empty file, a size limit, a connection problem, a security restriction, or exhausted site storage.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Check the file itself. Confirm it opens on your computer and is not empty. Try a different image. If the extension may not match the actual file type, export a fresh copy in a supported format instead of simply changing the extension.
  2. Try a fresh copy. Save the image under a new name and retry. If Wix reports corruption, its upload guidance says reconverting the file to the same format may help.
  3. Check the size and available site storage. Reduce the file size if it exceeds the applicable limit. If storage is exhausted, address that constraint before repeatedly retrying the same upload.
  4. Isolate the browser or security software. Retry in a private window, temporarily disable extensions, or test security software as a short diagnostic—not as a permanent workaround.
  5. Isolate the connection. Try another computer or network. If the upload succeeds there, investigate the original device or network restrictions.

Repeated attempts with the same unsuitable or corrupted file are unlikely to help. Change one factor at a time where practical, so you can identify whether the file, browser, security settings, or connection changes the outcome.

Check whether custom code is interfering

If your Wix site uses custom code snippets and images are missing on the published page, Wix recommends disabling the snippets to see whether the display changes. Do this as a controlled diagnostic and record the original state so you can restore it. Custom code can have unexpected effects; for help with a snippet’s behavior, Wix directs users to the snippet provider.

Or skip the browser setup

To capture what a published Wix page looks like for diagnosis or documentation, you can use ScreenshotNeo, a website screenshot API. A screenshot records the page’s rendered appearance; it does not repair a missing image or establish whether the cause is a browser, network, file, or Wix setting. The following one-request example captures a page as a WebP file. Replace the URL with your published Wix page and use your API key. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents and MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots. Use it to capture evidence, then troubleshoot the underlying display issue with the checks above.

When to contact Wix support

If the images remain missing after the checks that match your situation, send Wix support enough detail to reproduce and investigate the issue. For a live-site display problem, include the affected page URL and page name as shown in the Editor, a screenshot, the steps you tried, the browsers and versions tested, and the security programs installed. For upload problems, include the media type, browser and operating system versions, and the exact error; Wix may also ask for a console screenshot.

  • State whether the issue appears on the published site, in the Editor, or both.
  • Say whether it changes in a private window, another browser, device, or network.
  • Attach the screenshot and describe the precise steps that lead to the missing image or error.
  • For an upload failure, identify the file type and include the error text rather than only saying that it will not upload.

This evidence helps distinguish a site display problem from a local browser, network, or file issue. Wix’s support guidance is vendor documentation, not a diagnosis of any particular site.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a screenshot tool fix images that are missing from my Wix site?

No. A screenshot can document what a published page renders, but it does not repair the image or diagnose the underlying cause by itself.

Can Wix display an animated WEBP in a gallery?

Wix’s gallery guidance says animated WEBP is unsupported and is automatically reverted to a static image.
