If images are missing in Opera, first check whether images are allowed globally and whether the affected site has its own blocking exception. Then hard-reload the page and compare it in a private window. These checks are less disruptive than clearing browser data and help narrow down whether the issue is limited to one page, one site, or Opera more broadly.
Start by identifying how much of the page is affected
Before changing settings, note whether a single image is missing, every image on one page is missing, or images fail across several websites. Try another page on the same site and then a different site. If convenient, open the affected page in another browser or on another device.
These comparisons are clues, not proof of a cause. For example, if a page works in another browser, that does not establish that Opera is at fault; browser state, network conditions, and the site’s own image delivery can all affect what you see. Likewise, one broken image does not show that Opera’s global image permission is disabled.
- One image is missing: check whether other images on the same page load.
- One page or site is affected: compare another page on the site and test the page in a private window.
- Many unrelated sites are affected: check Opera’s global image permission before moving on to broader browser troubleshooting.
Allow images in Opera and check site exceptions
Opera provides a global image setting and site-specific preferences. The global setting can permit images generally while an exception blocks them on one particular site, so inspect both.

- Open Opera’s Settings.
- Go to Advanced > Privacy & security > Site settings > Images.
- Under the global setting, select Show all.
- Look for an entry or exception for the affected website. If it is set to block images, change that preference or remove the exception.
- Return to the page and reload it.
Opera’s exact labels and menu arrangement can vary by browser version and platform. If the path differs, use Settings search for “Images” or look under site settings. Make sure you are changing the preference for the affected site rather than assuming the global setting is the only control involved.
Refresh the page without clearing stored data
A normal reload may reuse resources already stored by the browser. A hard reload asks Opera to refresh page resources, which can help if an image or related file is stale or corrupted.
- Windows or Linux: press Ctrl+F5.
- Mac: press Command+Shift+R.
- Alternative: hold Shift while clicking Reload.
After the reload, check whether the missing images appear and whether other page content still behaves normally. A hard reload does not fix a site that is not supplying its images, but it is a useful low-impact check before deleting cookies or other stored data.
Compare the same page in a private window
Open a private window in Opera and visit the same page. If images load there but not in your regular window, browser state or an extension may be involved. That comparison narrows the investigation; it does not identify a specific extension or prove that cookies are the cause.

If the private-window result differs, test extensions individually rather than turning off everything permanently. Disable one extension, reload the page, and observe whether the result changes. Restore extensions that make no difference. If you find a setting or extension responsible, adjust only that item and retest in a regular window.
Test ad and tracker blocking selectively
Opera has ad-blocking and tracker-blocking controls, including site-specific controls. In some cases, a blocked request may be related to content that is not appearing. Treat this as a targeted test, not a reason to leave protections off.
- On the affected site, open Opera’s blocker controls.
- Temporarily turn off the relevant ad blocker or tracker blocker for that site only.
- Reload the page and see whether the images load.
- If there is no change, restore the protection. If the page changes, consider whether a site-specific exception is acceptable for you.
Do not infer from a changed page that every image failure is caused by blocking, or that you should disable protection across all sites. The useful result is whether changing a specific control for this site affects the page.
Temporarily test Opera’s VPN if you use it
If Opera’s VPN is enabled, turn it off temporarily and reload the affected page. Opera includes VPN disablement among its general troubleshooting steps for pages that do not display properly or are unavailable.

If the page changes, that is a clue that the route or connection context may matter, but it is not a complete diagnosis. Turn the VPN back on if disabling it makes no difference. If the issue remains, continue with browser updates and cache troubleshooting rather than leaving a privacy control disabled without reason.
Update Opera
Opera recommends updating to the newest browser version as part of general page-display troubleshooting. Check Opera’s update control in the browser menu or Settings; available labels and paths may vary by platform and version. Install an available update, restart the browser if prompted, and revisit the page.
An update is a sensible maintenance check, not a guarantee that a particular image issue will be fixed. If the problem started after an update, record the browser version and whether the same page works elsewhere; those details can help when reporting the problem.
Clear cached files and cookies only after simpler checks
Opera’s cache can hold temporary website elements, including images. Clearing cached files can remove an outdated copy. Opera also recommends clearing cookies as part of general display troubleshooting, but cookies can preserve sign-in and site preferences, so this step has more side effects than a reload.

- Select cached images and files. Include cookies only if the earlier checks did not resolve the problem and you are prepared to sign in again or reset some site state.
- Confirm the deletion, reopen the affected page, and allow it to reload its resources.
Clearing cache removes temporarily stored site data, so pages may need to download images again. Clearing cookies can sign you out or reset preferences. Avoid selecting broader categories of data unless you intend to remove them.
When the problem may be with one website
If images fail only on one site after you have checked Opera’s image permission, refreshed the page, and compared a private window, the site’s implementation or image host may be involved. Opera notes that a page can display incorrectly when its authors tailored it to another browser. A failure can also be specific to the page or its delivery; the checks above cannot prove which explanation applies.
Try another page on that site and, if possible, compare the same URL in another browser or device. If the problem persists only there, contact the site’s support team or report the display problem to Opera. Include the page address, what is missing, your Opera version and platform, and the troubleshooting steps you tried. Do not send sensitive account information in a public report.

If your goal is to capture a page for a visual check or a workflow, rather than repair image display in your own Opera session, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server. A screenshot cannot repair the site or guarantee that a failed image will appear; it can give you a capture to inspect. Its documented behavior includes accepting cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removing known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture. These steps can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. AI agents can use its MCP server tools, including take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf.

Common symptoms and what to try next
| What you see | Useful next check | What the result tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Images are missing across many sites | Check global Show all and review site exceptions. | A blocked global preference or exception may explain the behavior; if settings are correct, continue with reload and private-window checks. |
| Only one site’s images are missing | Check that site’s exception, test a private window, and compare another browser or device. | The comparisons narrow the scope but do not establish that the site or Opera is definitively at fault. |
| Images load in a private window | Test extensions individually in the regular window. | Browser state or an extension may be involved; the private-window comparison alone does not name the cause. |
| The page changes when a blocker is disabled | Restore protection if there is no benefit; if there is a change, decide whether a site-specific exception is acceptable. | A targeted blocker setting may be relevant to this page, but this does not justify disabling protection everywhere. |
| The issue persists after settings and reload checks | Update Opera, then consider clearing cached files and cookies. | These are broader maintenance steps; clearing cookies may sign you out or reset site state. |
Frequently Asked Questions
Will clearing Opera’s cache delete my saved passwords?
The troubleshooting guidance here establishes that clearing cached files removes temporary site data and that clearing cookies can sign you out; it does not establish what every Opera version will remove under every data-selection combination. Review the selected categories in Opera’s clear-data screen before confirming.
Does a missing image mean the website is down?
No. A missing image can be limited to one resource or page even when the rest of the site works. The scope comparisons described above can help narrow the problem, but they do not prove an outage or its cause.
Should I disable Opera’s ad blocker permanently to make images appear?
No. Test the relevant control temporarily for the affected site, then restore it if the page does not change. A site-specific decision is different from turning protection off broadly.
