How to Fix GoFullPage Chrome Web Store Violations (2026 Recovery Guide)

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

GoFullPage was restored to the Chrome Web Store on September 14, 2026. The August removal was described by its publisher as a copyright-related store action, not a security incident. If Chrome still shows the extension as disabled, open chrome://extensions and enable it; if the listing is unavailable, use only the publisher’s official beta, Microsoft Edge, or Firefox distribution. Developers who receive a policy notice must correct the specific permission, privacy, data-security, Manifest V3, functionality, or enforcement issue and then appeal through the Developer Dashboard when appropriate.

What happened to GoFullPage?

On August 11, 2026, GoFullPage author Claire Kao announced that the extension had been temporarily removed from the Chrome Web Store because of a copyright-related issue. The announcement explicitly said, “This was not a security issue with GoFullPage.” A progress report on August 14 said there was no firm restoration timeline and identified interim official routes: re-enable an existing installation at chrome://extensions, use the official Chrome beta listing, or install through Microsoft Edge. Firefox support was still being developed then.

On September 14, 2026, GoFullPage announced that the official Chrome extension had been restored and that Firefox was available. Therefore, a warning seen during the August incident does not, by itself, mean the extension was malware. Treat unexpected copies, modified installers, and look-alike store listings as unverified, however; the incident does not make third-party copies trustworthy.

First determine which situation you have

The official listing is available, but the extension is disabled

Chrome can retain an installed extension while disabling it after a store action or browser update. Open chrome://extensions, locate GoFullPage, and use Chrome’s enable control. If Chrome offers an update, apply it, then verify that the listing identity is the official GoFullPage item rather than a similarly named copy.

The Chrome Web Store listing is still unavailable to you

Do not download a ZIP, unpacked extension, or installer from an unknown site. Follow a link published by GoFullPage to its official Chrome beta listing, Microsoft Edge Add-ons page, or Firefox listing. Compare the publisher identity, extension ID, browser compatibility, update path, premium-account continuity, and privacy disclosures before installing.

You are the extension developer and received a violation notice

A user’s disabled-extension message and a developer’s policy notice are different problems. Users should use an official distribution channel or support route. Developers should work through the Developer Dashboard, correct the cited policy issue, and appeal if the decision is unclear or incorrect.

How to re-enable GoFullPage at chrome://extensions

  1. Open the extensions manager. Enter chrome://extensions in Chrome’s address bar and press Enter.
  2. Find GoFullPage. Check that the card is the official extension and note whether Chrome labels it disabled, blocked, or requiring an update.
  3. Enable it. Turn on Chrome’s enable control. If Chrome does not provide one, the installation may have been removed rather than merely disabled.
  4. Update and restart. Use the extensions manager’s update control when available, then restart Chrome and test a page that you are authorized to capture.
  5. Remove an unverified copy. If the card has a different publisher identity or extension ID than the official listing, remove it instead of granting additional permissions.
  6. Record details if it still fails. Write down Chrome’s version, the GoFullPage version, your operating system, and the exact error before contacting the publisher’s official support route.

Re-enabling an existing installation is a recovery step, not a way to bypass a store enforcement decision. If Chrome disables it again, stop trying random downloads and move to an official channel or wait for the publisher’s restored listing.

Official alternatives while Chrome is unavailable

During the incident, GoFullPage identified several official paths. Availability and account behavior can vary by browser and listing, so verify the current publisher page before switching.

Channel When to use it What to verify
Existing Chrome installation GoFullPage remains installed but Chrome has disabled it Enable it at chrome://extensions; confirm the official publisher and update
Official Chrome beta listing The main Chrome listing cannot be installed Publisher identity, extension ID, permissions, and update path
Microsoft Edge You need a Chromium-based browser during a Chrome outage Official Edge Add-ons listing, compatibility, account continuity, and privacy disclosures
Firefox You prefer a non-Chromium browser after the September restoration announcement Official Firefox listing, supported features, permissions, and update path

Never assume a third-party copy is equivalent to an official listing. A matching name or icon is not enough: inspect the publisher identity, extension ID, requested permissions, privacy policy, and update source.

What Chrome Web Store violations developers must fix

Chrome’s troubleshooting guidance groups common rejection causes into excessive permissions, privacy-policy and disclosure failures, insecure transmission, remote code or Manifest V3 problems, broken functionality, and enforcement circumvention. Fix the underlying behavior rather than changing only the listing text.

1. Narrow permissions to the feature that needs them

  • Remove unused entries from permissions, optional_permissions, and host_permissions.
  • Request optional access only when the user activates the feature that requires it.
  • Explain every remaining permission in the Developer Dashboard Privacy tab and in the extension’s user-facing flow.
  • Check content scripts, service workers, and host patterns for access that is broader than the capture workflow requires.

A permission is not justified merely because it might be useful later. Tie each one to a concrete user action and remove it when that action does not need it.

2. Complete privacy-policy and data-use disclosures

  • Put a working, publicly accessible privacy-policy URL in the designated Developer Dashboard field.
  • Describe what user data is collected, why it is collected, how it is handled, and which parties receive it.
  • Disclose data use prominently before collection and obtain affirmative consent where required.
  • Make the policy match the implementation, including screenshots, page URLs, authentication data, cookies, and diagnostics if the extension handles them.

A policy link that returns an error, requires an unexpected login, or omits actual recipients does not satisfy the practical requirement even if the URL is present.

3. Secure every transmission

Send user data over secure protocols. Do not leak sensitive values in URLs or headers. Review analytics, error reporting, screenshot upload endpoints, and third-party libraries; a leak in a diagnostic path can undermine an otherwise compliant feature.

4. Keep executable code inside the Manifest V3 package

For Manifest V3 extensions, executable code must be included in the extension package. Remote hosted code is a common rejection reason. Audit dynamically fetched JavaScript, remote configuration that becomes executable, injected scripts, and update mechanisms. Move executable logic into the reviewed package and use data-only configuration where possible.

5. Repair broken or misleading functionality

Test the complete user flow represented by the listing: installation, permission prompts, capture, download, and error handling. Remove stale screenshots or descriptions that promise behavior the current build does not provide. A feature that works only on one page, fails after navigation, or silently loses captures can trigger a functionality concern.

6. Do not circumvent enforcement

Do not manipulate listings, versions, publisher identities, or distribution channels to evade a restriction. Circumvention can lead to account termination. Submit a focused correction or appeal instead of publishing a look-alike item while the original decision is pending.

How to appeal a Chrome Web Store decision

  1. Read the notice precisely. Separate the cited policy section from symptoms such as a disabled listing or reduced visibility.
  2. Inspect the current build. Compare manifest permissions, remote-code paths, privacy disclosures, network requests, and the user flow with the notice.
  3. Make a minimal, reviewable fix. Remove unnecessary permissions, correct the privacy policy, secure transmission, package executable code, or repair the broken feature before submitting a new version.
  4. Document the change. List each permission, the user action that requires it, where data goes, and exactly what changed in the build.
  5. Use the item-detail Appeal button. Chrome’s guidance identifies the Developer Dashboard appeal path for unclear or disputed decisions.
  6. Contact Chrome Web Store developer support if needed. Include the extension ID, decision text, build version, permission rationale, privacy-policy URL, and concise reproduction steps.

An effective appeal answers the reviewer’s question directly. “The extension is safe” is not a substitute for explaining why a host permission is necessary or where a data flow ends.

Troubleshooting after restoration

Chrome says the extension is disabled again

Check chrome://extensions for a pending update or a new policy message. Confirm that you installed the official restored listing, then capture the browser, extension, and operating-system versions for support. Do not install an unofficial replacement to work around the disablement.

The extension installs but capture fails

Test another page, reload the tab, and check whether the failure is limited to a site that blocks automated or cross-origin activity. If the problem persists, record the exact page, browser version, extension version, and operating system. Send those details through GoFullPage’s official support route rather than uploading the extension to an unknown troubleshooting site.

The beta, Edge, or Firefox version behaves differently

Different browser APIs and release channels can produce different behavior. Compare the installed version and permissions with the official listing, and verify which features are supported in that channel. Do not assume that premium-account continuity or every capture option is identical unless the publisher states it.

You suspect malware

The 2026 removal was publicly characterized as copyright-related, not as a security incident. That does not validate every copy using the GoFullPage name. Remove any listing with an unrecognized publisher, unexpected permissions, or an unofficial download source, and reinstall only from an official browser store listing.

Or skip the browser setup

If your goal is a clean website image or PDF rather than repairing an extension, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. It accepts a URL and returns PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Before capture it can accept cookie or consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be disabled. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.

One GET request is enough:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for parameter details. The same request in Python is:

import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)

And in Node.js:

const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);

ScreenshotNeo also supports full-page captures with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, device presets and custom viewports, retina scale, PDF paper size and margins, custom CSS and JavaScript, click-before-capture actions, selector hiding, waits, request and resource blocking, custom headers, cookies, user agents and authorization, timezone and geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, selectable cache TTLs, signed image links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API, and an OpenAPI specification. Existing parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work to ease migration. Its MCP server exposes take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf to Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.

The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots; yearly billing provides two months free, and every feature is included on every plan. Create a free ScreenshotNeo account to try it.

Prevention checklist for extension teams

  • Review all manifest permissions before every submission.
  • Keep the privacy policy reachable, current, and consistent with implementation.
  • Scan builds for remote executable code and unapproved dynamic loading.
  • Exercise installation, permission prompts, capture, download, and failure paths on supported browsers.
  • Use secure transport and inspect URLs, headers, logs, and third-party telemetry for accidental data disclosure.
  • Keep listing text, screenshots, and video aligned with the shipped behavior.
  • Maintain a written rationale for each permission and a change log for reviewers.
  • Use appeals and developer support rather than alternate listings or version manipulation to evade enforcement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the August 2026 removal mean GoFullPage was unsafe?

No. GoFullPage’s August 11 announcement attributed the action to copyright and explicitly said it was not a security issue. You should still verify the publisher and permissions of any installation.

Where can I find the official beta or alternate browser listing?

Use links published by GoFullPage in its official announcements or current store pages. The incident information identifies Chrome beta, Microsoft Edge, and later Firefox as official routes but does not establish a single permanent URL for each.

What information should I include in a support request?

Include the browser version, GoFullPage version, operating system, exact error text, affected page, and whether the official listing or an alternate channel is installed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I appeal without changing the extension?

You can appeal an unclear or disputed decision, but a strong submission explains each permission and the user flow that requires it. If the notice identifies a real defect, correct it before appealing.
