When Gemini Maps results are wrong, first determine whether Gemini generated a bad answer, the Google Maps listing itself is incorrect or absent, or the request uses a Maps feature Gemini does not support. Open the result’s linked place name to inspect its Google Maps page. If the listing is wrong or missing, submit a map-data correction or add the place; if the listing is accurate but Gemini responded incorrectly, send product feedback with the exact prompt and result.
These routes are separate. Google reviews map edits and missing-place submissions, while product feedback reports a software or response problem. Neither workflow promises an immediate change, and correction tools are available only in some countries and regions.

Identify what is actually wrong
A wrong-looking answer can originate in three different places. Gemini Apps uses public information from Google Maps to find businesses, stores, restaurants, parks and attractions, then returns place details or directions. The response can be mistaken even when the underlying listing is correct; the listing can be wrong even when Gemini accurately retrieved it; or the request may involve a feature that is unavailable through Gemini’s Maps connection.

This classification prevents a common mistake: reporting a correct Maps listing as if it were missing, or repeatedly editing a listing when the defect is actually Gemini’s interpretation.

Check Gemini’s prerequisites and known limits
Sign in and turn Activity on
Gemini place search requires you to be signed in and to have Activity turned on. Confirm both before diagnosing a failure. If either prerequisite is disabled, Gemini may not provide the expected Maps result even though the place exists. Google also rolls out some Maps actions gradually, so an option shown in one account, device or region may not yet be available in another. Availability should not be assumed to be universal. Know what the Maps connection does not provide
Google documents live traffic updates and the use of saved places other than Work and Home as unsupported through Gemini’s Maps connection. A response that omits those details is not evidence that Google’s map data is wrong. Open Google Maps itself when you need live traffic conditions or another saved location.
Check location and saved Work/Home settings
Location permission and your saved Work and Home locations can affect directions. Review the location permission for the Gemini and Maps apps on your device and confirm that those saved addresses are current. These settings can explain a route that starts from an unexpected point, but they do not by themselves prove why a particular place result was inaccurate.

Open the linked place and compare the record
The quickest diagnostic is to inspect the source listing rather than relying on Gemini’s summary. Google’s instruction is explicit: “To open a place’s details page in Google Maps, click the place’s linked name in Gemini’s response.” Google Gemini Apps Help.
- In Gemini on a computer or supported mobile experience, submit the place or directions request again so the complete response is visible.
- Tap or click the linked place name in the response. This opens that place’s Google Maps details page.
- Compare the listing’s name, street address, map pin, category and other available details with what you know to be true.
- Check whether the result points to the intended branch or to a similarly named place in another city.
- Record the exact prompt, the result Gemini returned and the details shown on the Maps page before submitting any report.
This comparison reveals whether Gemini is reproducing a bad record or making a separate selection or reasoning error. It does not independently prove that every field is current; hours, availability and temporary closures can change, and a Maps page may itself need updating.
Correct an inaccurate Google Maps place or address
Use the data-error route for ordinary factual mistakes
If the Maps page contains a wrong address, pin, name, category or other factual detail, use Google’s Report data or content errors on Google Maps process. Choose the place or address, select the relevant error and provide the corrected information. Describe the verifiable change rather than simply saying that Gemini was wrong; the Maps record is what reviewers need to evaluate.

Google states that these correction tools are available only in some countries and regions. The available controls and review requirements can therefore differ by location. A proposed edit is reviewed and may not appear immediately, and acceptance is not guaranteed.
Add a public place that is absent
For a real public place with no listing, use the missing-place workflow instead of editing an unrelated nearby result.
- On a computer: open Add a missing place to Google Maps on computer. Search the address, then choose Add a missing place and follow the form.
- On Android: open Google Maps, choose Contribute, select Add place, and complete the on-screen instructions. Google’s Android instructions are at Add a missing place to Google Maps on Android.
Provide the official name, precise address or map position, correct category and any requested supporting details. Google says an added place shows publicly once added, but that does not mean every submission is accepted or that publication will be immediate. If your country does not expose the tool, you cannot force it through Gemini; use the available Google Maps reporting option or wait until the feature is offered in your region.

Do not use a factual edit for a conduct complaint
A business that is fake, misleading, impersonating another company or otherwise violating policy requires a different report. Use Report a business on Google Maps. Ordinary corrections (such as a moved entrance or misspelled name) belong in the data-edit flow; suspected misconduct belongs in the business-reporting flow.

If the linked Google Maps listing is accurate but Gemini still returns the wrong place, misunderstands the request or behaves incorrectly, send product feedback. Do not submit a duplicate place edit: changing a correct listing will not repair Gemini’s response.
Android feedback path
- Open Google Maps and tap your profile picture or initial.
- Choose Help & feedback.
- Select Send product feedback.
- Describe the prompt you entered, the response Gemini produced, what you expected and the device or app context.
- Attach a screenshot when it clarifies the issue. If enabled in Google Maps, shake-to-send can capture a screenshot for the report.
The Android menu path is documented in Google Maps feedback for Android. Menu labels can change with app versions, so use the closest current Help and feedback option if your screen differs.
Computer and other surfaces
For the Google Maps experience on desktop, Google lists Menu → Edit the map → Your opinions about Maps as the feedback path. The general instructions are in How to send us feedback in Google Maps. Gemini Apps and the newer Ask Maps feature inside Google Maps are separate product surfaces; do not assume that a thumbs-down control documented for Ask Maps also submits feedback for a Gemini Apps response. Use the feedback control exposed by the product where the problem occurred.
Write a report reviewers can act on
Google advises, “Be as specific as possible. If you’re not sure what something is called, you can describe it instead.” Google Maps Help. Include:
- The exact Gemini prompt, including your starting location, destination and constraints.
- The complete or relevant part of Gemini’s answer, including the place it selected.
- The correct result you expected and why it is correct.
- The linked Maps URL or place name, if available.
- Your device type, operating system, app or browser and approximate time of the failure.
- A screenshot that shows the response without exposing private information.
Google’s guidance cautions that “it’s unlikely your feedback will be acted on immediately.” Feedback may inform product changes without producing a direct reply or instant correction. Keep the report factual and avoid sending repeated copies of the same case.
A complete troubleshooting sequence
- Repeat the request once with precise wording. Name the city, country, branch or neighborhood and specify whether you want a place, an address or directions. Ambiguous names can legitimately produce several candidates.
- Verify the account state. Confirm you are signed in to Gemini and Activity is on. If the requested action is live traffic or a saved place other than Work/Home, switch to Google Maps because Gemini’s connection does not support it.
- Open the linked place. Compare the listing with the real-world information. Save the details needed for a report.
- Choose one remedy. Use a data correction for a wrong existing record, a missing-place form for an absent public place, product feedback for a Gemini or app behavior problem, or business reporting for suspected misconduct.
- Submit evidence once. State what you did, what happened and what you expected. Attach a screenshot when it removes ambiguity.
- Allow for review. Google does not promise an immediate response or a fixed correction time. Recheck the listing later, but do not claim that an edit will definitely be accepted.
Common cases and the right route

What not to do
- Do not treat a confident Gemini answer as proof that the place exists or that every detail is current.
- Do not edit a correct Maps listing merely because Gemini selected it for the wrong question.
- Do not use the missing-place form to create duplicate listings for an existing branch.
- Do not expect a feedback submission to guarantee a reply, a rapid fix or acceptance of a map edit.
- Do not report unsupported live-traffic or non-Work/Home saved-place requests as missing data.
- Do not include private personal information in screenshots or feedback text.
Prompts that reduce avoidable ambiguity
After the underlying data is correct, clearer prompts can reduce wrong-branch selections. Include the city and country, the exact neighborhood or postal code, the type of place and any disambiguating detail such as a street name. Ask Gemini to list the candidate’s address before giving directions, then open the linked Maps page to verify it. For example, request “Find the public library on Oak Street in Springfield, and show its Google Maps address” rather than “Find the library.” This does not override unsupported features or guarantee accuracy, but it gives Gemini less room to choose a similarly named place.
When a correction still appears wrong
If a submitted edit or new place does not appear immediately, check the listing again later and make sure you used the correct Google account and region-specific workflow. Avoid filing multiple contradictory edits. If the record now looks correct in Maps but Gemini continues to return stale or unrelated information, submit product feedback with both the current Maps listing and the erroneous Gemini response so reviewers can distinguish a data issue from a response issue.
