A web Item Shop listing can remain searchable after an item is no longer available; a missing V-Bucks balance may reflect the wrong Epic account or platform; and refunds for purchases made through a console store must be handled by that platform. Use the steps below for the failure you actually see.
First, identify where the purchase failed
Was it the in-game Fortnite Item Shop, the web Item Shop, Epic Games Store, or a console or other platform store? Also note whether you cannot select the item, payment was declined, a charge appears but the item or V-Bucks are missing, or you want to reverse a completed purchase. These are different problems and may have different support routes.

- Item unavailable: Check whether the listing is still for sale.
- Payment declined: Follow guidance for the exact decline message and the store that processed it.
- Paid but nothing appeared: Verify the account and transaction record before retrying.
- Want a refund: Check Fortnite’s Item Shop return rules or contact the store that sold the purchase.
For a purchase made through a third-party platform store, use that platform’s refund process. Epic’s End User License Agreement and Item Shop refund guidance distinguish those platform transactions from eligible V-Bucks Item Shop returns.
If the web Item Shop will not sell you an outfit
An error on the Fortnite web Item Shop does not necessarily mean your account or payment method is broken. Epic says an item can still appear in search after it is no longer available for purchase.

- Reload the Item Shop page.
- Search for the cosmetic from the main Item Shop page rather than relying on an old or saved listing.
- Check the bottom of the listing for its end date.
- If it has left the shop, check the rotating Item Shop for a later return. Epic does not promise when an item will come back.
See Epic’s guidance for an item that appears on the Fortnite Item Shop website but cannot be bought and for errors when buying a cosmetic from the web shop.
If V-Bucks or a purchase is missing
Check the account and platform first
- Restart Fortnite to refresh the displayed balance.
- Sign in on the platform used to make the purchase.
- Compare the Epic account ID in your Fortnite profile with the account you intended to use.
- Check whether the V-Bucks are in a platform-specific balance rather than the shared balance.
- Look for the order in the relevant transaction history.
If there is no transaction record, Epic says the transaction did not go through. Check with your bank or payment provider before trying again. For a V-Bucks card, make sure you have redeemed its code; buying a card alone does not add currency to the account.

Epic’s V-Bucks purchase troubleshooting explains these checks. If the order is in Epic Games Store history but the content is still missing, contact Epic Support with the order number, amount, and platform. For a purchase processed by PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo, contact that platform’s support if the balance remains missing.
Allow time for some console purchases
Epic says some purchases made on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, or Samsung may take up to two hours to appear in Fortnite. Verify the Epic account and set the device’s date and time correctly. Epic also suggests reinstalling Fortnite from the account that made the purchase to confirm which account is in use. If the purchase is still missing after the wait, contact the platform’s support team. See Epic’s console purchase visibility guidance.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

If payment was declined or a network error appeared
“Transaction declined for your protection”
Use these steps only if the message matches Epic’s specific transaction-declined error: check that the payment details are correct, the payment method is active, and enough funds are available. Epic advises waiting at least 24 hours before trying again. If it still fails, try another payment method or ask the bank or payment provider to check the attempted charge. See Epic’s transaction-declined guidance.
Epic Games Store network connection error
If Epic Games Store displays “An error occurred while trying to process your request. Please check your network connection and try again,” restart the router or modem and your device, then retry. If the error continues, try mobile data instead of Wi-Fi. This advice is for that documented Epic Store error; it is not a diagnosis for every Fortnite purchase problem. See Epic’s network-error steps.

How to cancel or return an Item Shop purchase
Cancel within 24 hours
Epic says most eligible cosmetics bought with V-Bucks can be canceled within 24 hours if the item has not been used or equipped in a game mode. Epic Games Support states: “You can use Cancel Purchase to cancel or undo a Fortnite Item Shop purchase made with V-Bucks if it was bought by mistake.”
Use a Return Ticket for an eligible older purchase
If the Cancel Purchase option is no longer available, a Return Ticket may cover an eligible item purchased within the last 30 days. Epic says accounts start with three tickets, receive one every 365 days, and can hold up to three. Bundles must be returned together.

Epic lists passes, pass levels, premium reward tracks, gifted purchases, Level Up Quest Packs, certain Save the World items, and developer-made island purchases among the exclusions. Battle Pass-earned rewards cannot be returned using Cancel Purchase or a Return Ticket; an ineligible-item error may mean the item and V-Bucks were unchanged.
Submit the return and check the balance
Open the return screen in the in-game or web Item Shop, verify the item, and confirm only if the return is eligible. Epic says refunded V-Bucks usually appear within a few minutes. If they do not, refresh the Item Shop balance, check that you are on the account where the refund was processed, consider whether the amount went to a platform-specific balance, and restart Fortnite. See Epic’s cancellation and return rules, its explanation of return errors for cosmetic items, and its steps for missing V-Bucks after a refund.
What to include when you contact support
- The exact error text and where it appeared.
- The store or platform used and the Epic account ID shown in Fortnite.
- Whether transaction history shows a completed order; for an Epic Games Store order, include its order number and amount.
- Whether the issue is an unavailable listing, declined payment, missing delivery, or refund.
Send a platform-store refund or missing platform purchase to that platform’s support. For an Epic Games Store order, use Epic Support; for an Item Shop return, follow the in-game or web return screen and check its eligibility rules.
