If the web shop cannot complete an item purchase, the listing may be stale because the item has left the current rotation. If purchased V-Bucks are missing, check the transaction record, the account and platform used to buy them, and whether that platform shares its wallet.
First, identify which purchase problem you have
| What happened | First check | Who handles the transaction |
|---|---|---|
| The web Item Shop will not sell an item | Refresh the shop and check whether the item has left the current rotation. | Epic’s shop availability guidance applies. |
| You paid for V-Bucks, but the balance is missing | Check Transaction History, then sign in on the purchase platform and verify the Epic account. | Epic Games Store purchases go to Epic; PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo purchases go to the relevant platform’s support. |
| A real-money refund was processed, but returned V-Bucks are not visible | Refresh the balance, check the account and currency balances, then restart Fortnite. | Check the platform balance too if the original purchase used it. |
| You want to undo a cosmetic bought with V-Bucks | Check the 24-hour cancellation window and, after that, Return Ticket eligibility. | Use Fortnite’s current in-game or web return flow. |
Fix a Fortnite Web Item Shop transaction error
Epic says the web shop can show “Something went wrong. We were not able to complete this transaction, please try again later” or “We were unable to complete the transaction, please try again” when an item is still searchable but has already left the current shop rotation. In that case, the item is not available to buy at that time. See Epic’s explanation of the Web Item Shop transaction error.

- Refresh the Item Shop and check the live listings.
- Open the item description and look near the bottom for its end date.
- If the web page still appears out of date, visit it later or check the in-game shop.
Availability changes with shop rotation. A failed purchase does not establish when, or whether, an item will return.

Epic says V-Bucks are added when you sign in to Fortnite on the same platform where you made the purchase. Its missing-currency guidance recommends checking the following in order. Read Epic’s missing V-Bucks steps.
#1 Best Overall
- Redeemable on accounts in the United States and in U.S. Dollars.
- Gift card must be redeemed at EpicGames.com/redeem. This gift card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly on a console device (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, etc.)
- If you play Fortnite experiences on a console device, you need to link your Epic Games account to your console account(s) so items purchased at Fortnite.com/item-shop appear across all of your linked accounts
- Requires internet connection, valid Epic account and prior acceptance of the terms
- Redemption: Online
- Restart Fortnite. This refreshes the balance displayed in the game.
- Sign in on the purchase platform. For example, V-Bucks bought through PlayStation should appear after you sign in to Fortnite on PlayStation.
- Check the Epic account. Make sure the account you are using matches the in-game profile associated with the purchase.
- Consider Shared Wallet limits. Fortnite Shared Wallet does not apply to every platform, so a balance may not transfer across all devices. Epic’s Shared Wallet platform list explains which platforms participate.
- Review Transaction History. If the purchase is absent, Epic says it did not go through. Check with your bank or payment provider before attempting another purchase.
- Redeem a V-Bucks card separately. A card code must be redeemed; a standard V-Bucks purchase is not delivered as a code and cannot be gifted to another account.
Contact the store that processed the purchase
For V-Bucks bought through PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo, contact that platform’s support. Epic says it cannot investigate or refund purchases made through those platforms. For an Epic Games Store purchase, submit an Epic Support request and include the order number, amount of V-Bucks and platform. The transaction history and support route are covered in Epic’s missing V-Bucks guidance.
If a real-money refund was processed but the V-Bucks are missing
Epic says returned V-Bucks usually appear within a few minutes. If they are not visible, refresh the Item Shop balance, confirm you are signed into the account that received the refund, inspect your In-Game Currency balances, and restart Fortnite. If the original purchase used a platform balance, such as Nintendo balance, the refund may return to that platform balance instead of the Shared Wallet. See Epic’s guidance on refunded V-Bucks.

Cancel or return an Item Shop purchase
Canceling a cosmetic purchase made with V-Bucks is separate from getting a real-money payment refunded. Epic’s current guidance distinguishes a short cancellation period from later returns using a Return Ticket. Eligibility also depends on the item and whether it has been used or equipped. Review Epic’s current Item Shop return and refund rules before proceeding.

- Cancel Purchase: Available for 24 hours after purchase only if the item has not been used or equipped in any game mode.
- Return Ticket: After the cancellation period, an eligible item bought within the past 30 days may be returned with a ticket.
- Items that may be excluded: Passes, gifted purchases, some packs and developer-made island purchases are among the exclusions Epic lists.
- Ticket limits: Accounts start with three Return Tickets, receive one every 365 days if below the maximum, and can hold up to three. Epic Support says it cannot grant additional tickets.
Use the current in-game or web self-service return flow; menu labels can change between Fortnite versions. The return policy’s time limits and ticket rules are Epic’s published support policy and may be updated.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

When the documented steps do not fit
These checks cover the web-shop rotation message, missing V-Bucks, returned currency visibility and Item Shop returns. They do not identify the cause of every declined payment or platform-specific error code. For another error, note the exact message and which store processed the purchase, then contact that platform or payment provider—or Epic for an Epic Games Store transaction. Do not retry a charge until you have checked whether the first transaction appears in your history.
