Check for bubbles or debris, scan the QR code for the exact protector, and then re-enroll your fingerprints. Google says the sensor may take a few hours or days to recalibrate, and even a certified protector may not perform as well as an uncovered display.
1. Check the protector’s fit
Dust, debris, air bubbles, or gaps between the protector and display can interfere with fingerprint scans. Inspect the area over the sensor. If you see an obstruction, follow the protector maker’s instructions for correcting it or replacing the protector.

If the surface looks clear but scans are still unreliable, press a flat object such as a card across the protector to encourage full contact and close small gaps. Google outlines these checks in its screen-protector guidance.

Use a protector made for the phone’s exact model and size. Google recommends protectors in its Made for Google certified list for the best Fingerprint Unlock experience. Its list includes Pixel 11 Pro XL entries such as Spigen Glas.tR EZ Fit Pro (AGL11485), Mous Ceramic Glass Screen Protector (SPE-A1161-CLRGLS-000-W1), and ZAGG Glass (200121955), as well as products from other brands.

Check Google’s current compatibility list and the product packaging before buying or installing one; listed models and SKUs can change. Certification confirms compatibility, not that fingerprint performance will match an uncovered screen. Google does not publish comparative fingerprint-performance rankings for the listed options.
3. Scan the protector’s QR code
After applying the protector and before enrolling fingerprints, scan the QR code on its packaging when possible. Google says this helps the sensor work with that protector. Make sure the code belongs to the exact model and size fitted to your phone; a mismatched QR code will not provide the right protector information.

Google recommends applying the protector before enrolling fingerprints. If you set up Fingerprint Unlock before installing it, remove the existing fingerprints and enroll them again:

- Open Settings.
- Tap Security and privacy, then Device unlock.
- Tap Fingerprint and Face Unlock and follow the on-screen prompts. You may need to enter your PIN.
This is the path in Google’s fingerprint sensor troubleshooting instructions. Register your prints only after the protector is fitted and its QR code has been scanned, if available.
5. Allow time for recalibration
After a protector is applied, the fingerprint sensor needs to recalibrate. Google says performance may improve over the first few hours or days. During that period, use your PIN if a scan does not work; avoid repeatedly changing settings while the sensor is adjusting.

6. If scans still fail
Once you have checked the fit, confirmed the model, scanned the matching QR code if available, re-enrolled your prints, and allowed time for recalibration, try setting up Face Unlock. If you prefer fingerprint unlocking, replacing a troublesome protector with a Pixel 11 Pro XL model on Google’s certified list is a reasonable next step, but certification does not guarantee the same performance as using no protector.
