First find out whether the song is missing from the local FFmpeg playlist or only from the YouTube live output. If local playback also skips it, check the concat list, file paths, media compatibility and duration metadata. If local playback is complete, investigate FFmpeg’s stream mapping, output log, connection and YouTube stream health before changing the playlist.
Locate where the track disappears
There is no single fix for every skipped track. FFmpeg may omit or fail to read a playlist entry, encounter a problematic transition between files, select the wrong stream, or send an incomplete output to YouTube. Separate those possibilities before changing encoding settings.

- Play the same files in the same order locally, independently of the live output. If the track is already missing or the transition fails, investigate the playlist and input files.
- If local playback is correct, check YouTube’s Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages while the affected transition occurs. Review the FFmpeg log for input, timestamp, mapping or network errors.
- For a focused test, run just the last file that plays correctly and the first file that appears to be skipped, using the same command and output settings. Keep the log covering the transition.
When asking for help, include your FFmpeg version, the playlist text with private paths redacted, the command with the stream key removed, the log around the transition, and whether the playlist also skips locally.

The concat demuxer reads a script of files and directives sequentially, presenting them as one virtual input. Check that the script contains every intended file once, in the right order, and uses the concat demuxer’s expected format. Look for misspellings, incorrect path bases, quoting problems, or errors in a script that generates the list. See the FFmpeg documentation for concat demuxer syntax and behavior.

- Confirm each listed file exists at the path FFmpeg will use and can be opened.
- If the list uses relative paths, verify what directory they are relative to.
- Use
-safe 0only when needed to allow paths that FFmpeg otherwise rejects, and only with a playlist you control. It relaxes path restrictions; it does not repair a missing or invalid file.
Do not assume a line appearing in a playlist proves that FFmpeg successfully read and output the corresponding media. The log and a local playback test help distinguish a list-entry problem from a transition or output problem.
Compare the files around the skipped transition
The concat demuxer expects files with the same streams, including compatible codecs and time bases. If the files differ, -c copy does not make them compatible: stream copy passes encoded packets through rather than normalizing their formats. Inspect the streams and compare the two files on either side of the failure, including their audio and video streams, codecs and time bases.
When stream copy is suitable
Use stream copy only when the inputs have compatible stream layouts and you want to preserve their encoded packets. It avoids re-encoding, but it cannot reconcile incompatible media. A short test using only the affected pair can show whether the boundary is the problem.

When to use the concat filter
If clips need to be made consistent, use the concat filter and re-encode to a common output format rather than expecting stream copy to fix them. FFmpeg’s FAQ describes the concat filter as the route when re-encoding is required, and the concat demuxer as an option when avoiding re-encoding.
The correct filter graph, output codec and command depend on the actual inputs and intended stream. Without those details, a one-size-fits-all live command could conceal incompatibility or produce a different output than intended.
Check durations and timestamps at file boundaries
The concat demuxer uses each file’s duration to set timestamps for the next file. If a duration is wrong, boundary artifacts can result. Duration estimates based on bitrate, truncated files or unusual metadata are reasons to inspect the affected file rather than assume the next song itself is at fault. An explicit duration directive can override a stored duration, but use it only when you know the correct duration. Guessing can move timestamps incorrectly instead of fixing them. Compare the reported duration with the playable content and inspect the log for timestamp-related problems.

Verify FFmpeg selected the intended audio stream
FFmpeg can select streams automatically based on output-format eligibility and its selection rules. If a file contains multiple audio streams, or automatic selection is not suitable, inspect FFmpeg’s input stream listing and explicitly map the intended streams with -map. Check that the resulting output contains audio before attributing silence or a missing song to YouTube. The FFmpeg command-line documentation explains manual stream selection.
Mapping only helps with stream selection. It will not restore a playlist entry that was never read, correct an inaccurate duration, or make incompatible streams suitable for stream copy.

Separate playlist faults from YouTube ingest problems
If local playback contains the track but the live output does not, compare what FFmpeg sends with YouTube’s Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages. Check the FFmpeg output log and the network connection, then confirm the encoder settings against YouTube’s live encoder guidance. YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and video, checking the preview and monitoring stream health.
YouTube’s guidance lists RTMP and RTMPS as streaming protocols and recommends RTMPS. It lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 video codecs, and AAC or MP3 audio codecs. It recommends CBR, a two-second keyframe interval and no more than four seconds between keyframes. For stereo audio, its recommended advanced settings are 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps; for 5.1 audio, 48 kHz and 384 Kbps. Video bitrate recommendations depend on codec, resolution and frame rate, so use YouTube’s current table rather than treating one bitrate as universal.
FFmpeg’s FIFO muxer has output recovery controls such as attempt_recovery and recovery_wait_time. These address network-output continuity, not a broken local playlist or incompatible inputs. The documentation also warns that dropping packets on overflow lets processing continue at the cost of omitting part of the stream; it is not a lossless way to fix skipped tracks.

Choose a fix based on the evidence
