If your REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G started losing charge quickly just after a system update, Xiaomi says temporary background optimization, app recompilation and system re-indexing may be responsible. The drain typically stabilizes within a few charge cycles, but Xiaomi does not promise a fixed recovery time. For other cases, check battery usage, recent phone habits and heat before considering a repair.
First, check whether the drain followed a system update
Think about when the faster drain began. Xiaomi’s official REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G FAQ explains that a phone may use more power after an update while it optimizes in the background, recompiles apps and re-indexes system data. Xiaomi says: “This increased battery drain typically stabilizes within a few charge cycles as the system completes its post-update optimization.”

If the timing fits, use the phone normally and observe it over a few charge cycles. There is no exact number of days that applies to every phone. If the drain began well before the update, or remains severe after several cycles, continue with the checks below rather than assuming optimization is the cause.
Find out what is using the battery
Open Settings > Battery and review the recent battery-usage details. Menu names can vary by software version or region; if you do not see Battery, search for “Battery” in Settings. Look for an app using much more power than you would expect for how often you used it.

- If one app stands out, install its available update and check whether it needs to run in the background.
- Restrict its background activity if you do not need timely background alerts or updates.
- Uninstall it if it is unnecessary. Avoid restricting system components or apps whose background work you rely on.
This screen is a practical diagnostic, not a finding Xiaomi specifically identifies as the cause of drain on this model.
Check recent use, signal and screen settings
Consider whether anything changed around the time the battery began falling faster. These are common power demands to check, not causes confirmed by Xiaomi’s cited FAQ for this model:

- Navigation running for an extended period.
- A mobile hotspot left on.
- Spending time in weak-signal areas, where the phone may work harder to maintain a connection.
- High screen brightness or a screen that stays on longer than necessary.
Try changing one relevant habit at a time and compare battery use over similar periods. That can help distinguish a change in usage from a persistent problem.

- Restart the phone to clear a temporary software issue.
- Check Settings for available system updates. Menu labels vary, so search Settings for “System update” if needed.
- Update apps through the app store you normally use.
- Keep the phone out of excessive heat. When charging, avoid heavy use if possible and let the phone charge without active use. Xiaomi notes that high ambient temperature and heavy use while charging can affect charging speed and discusses charging without active use for efficiency and battery longevity; this is not a guaranteed fix for discharge.
Xiaomi also says incompatible chargers or cables can reduce charging speed. That is a charging-performance point, not evidence that buying a new charger will fix fast battery drain.

When to contact an official service center
If the drain remains severe after software checks and, where relevant, a few post-update charge cycles, contact a local official Xiaomi after-sales service center. Do the same if you suspect a physical or battery fault. Back up important data before handing the phone in, and describe when the drain began, any recent update, and the battery-usage results you observed.
Xiaomi says the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G does not support self-disassembly: its battery cover is adhered to the middle frame. Do not pry the phone open for a battery replacement; ask a qualified service provider to assess it.
