How to Fix ERR_CACHE_MISS in Chrome

ERR_CACHE_MISS means Chrome may need earlier-entered information submitted again. Check the page and connection first, then troubleshoot Chrome step by step.

ERR_CACHE_MISS means Chrome says a page needs information you entered earlier to be submitted again. It does not prove that your browser cache is corrupted. Before resubmitting a form—especially for a payment or another sensitive action—check whether the original submission went through.

Use the steps below to troubleshoot Chrome on a computer. Change one thing at a time so you can identify what, if anything, fixes the problem.

First, check the page and your connection

  1. Verify the address and reload once. Check that the URL is correct, then reload the page. Note whether the error appears on just one site or on several.
  2. Check whether you are online. Open another website. If multiple sites fail, check your Wi-Fi or wired connection and restart your router or modem if needed. On public Wi-Fi, look for a sign-in page that may be waiting for you.

Google describes ERR_CACHE_MISS as a case where “The page needs information that you entered earlier to be submitted again.” Google Chrome Help does not identify the message itself as proof of a damaged cache.

Update and restart Chrome

Install any Chrome update offered on your computer, then quit Chrome completely and reopen it. Return to the page and see whether the error remains. Google includes updating and restarting among its steps for connection and loading errors: Fix connection and loading errors in Chrome — Computer.

Compare the page in Incognito

Open an Incognito window and visit the affected page. If it works there but not in your usual window, that contrast suggests an extension or saved browsing data in your normal profile may be involved. Incognito is a diagnostic check, not a permanent fix; continue with the checks below in your regular Chrome window.

Check for an extension conflict

  1. In your normal Chrome window, open the extensions manager using More (the three-dot menu) > Extensions > Manage extensions.
  2. Turn off your extensions and try the page again.
  3. If the error clears, turn extensions back on one at a time, testing the page after each change. This can help identify a conflicting extension.

Clear selected browsing data only if needed

Clearing browsing data can affect saved site state: removing cookies may sign you out or erase site settings, and pages may load more slowly at first while their content is downloaded again. Choose the data types and time range you intend to remove rather than automatically clearing everything.

  1. In Chrome, open More > Delete browsing data.
  2. Select a time range and the data types you want to remove. Review the selections before proceeding, particularly if you want to keep cookies or site data.
  3. Choose Delete data, then revisit the affected page.

Google’s instructions for clearing cache and cookies explain the effects of removing this data. Clearing it may help with some page-loading problems, but it is not a guaranteed fix for every ERR_CACHE_MISS occurrence.

If the error continues

  • Check security software. Review whether a firewall or antivirus setting is blocking the page. Change a setting only if you understand its effect; avoid leaving security protection disabled.
  • Close unused tabs. Freeing memory can help if Chrome is under heavy load.
  • Reset Chrome settings as a later step. Try this only after the less disruptive checks above.
  • Contact the site if only it is affected. If other websites work and the error persists on one site, its owner may need to investigate. Google also provides Chrome Help for connection and loading errors.

If the error followed a checkout, banking action, or another form submission, check the account or order status before trying again. The message indicates that previously entered information may need to be submitted again; it does not establish whether the earlier action completed.

These menu labels and steps apply to Chrome on a computer. Chrome’s Android and iOS menus differ, so desktop instructions may not match those devices.
