First identify which counter is rising: OBS network “Dropped Frames” points to an unstable or insufficient connection to YouTube; “Frames Missed due to Rendering Lag” or “Skipped Frames due to Encoding Lag” points to local GPU or encoder load. YouTube’s stream-health message can identify a separate ingest-setting problem. The fix depends on that diagnosis—not on the fact that the stream is in India.
Identify what is actually dropping
Check OBS Stats and logs
In OBS, open View > Stats and watch the counters while the problem occurs. Record the OBS log covering the same period. Note whether the value increasing is:

- Dropped Frames (Network): OBS says this indicates an unstable connection to the ingest server or a connection that cannot sustain the configured bitrate.
- Frames Missed due to Rendering Lag: OBS cannot render frames on time, commonly because local GPU resources are constrained.
- Skipped Frames due to Encoding Lag: the encoder cannot keep up with the selected output settings or available resources.
Also check the stream-health messages in YouTube Live Control Room. Choppy playback reported by a viewer is not automatically broadcaster-side dropped frames: viewer buffering can occur even when OBS is not dropping frames.

Keep India in the diagnosis, not as the presumed cause
Investigate the specific city, ISP, connection type, router path, and the hours when the stream fails. The official platform guidance does not establish a special Indian bitrate requirement, a country-wide cause, or an ISP ranking. Without your OBS logs, YouTube health messages, and connection details, no single cause can be named.

Fix rising network dropped frames
1. Measure sustained upload and stability
YouTube Help says, “We recommend running a speed test to test your upload bitrate.” Test during the hours the 24/7 stream typically has trouble, and assess upload performance—not just the plan’s advertised speed or a download result. Choose a bitrate the connection can sustain continuously. A speed test is a useful check, not proof that the path will remain stable all day.
2. Set a conservative bitrate and verify the output
YouTube’s current H.264 recommendations provide a bounded starting point. Minimum and recommended figures are ingest settings, not a guarantee that your internet connection can continuously deliver them.
| Output | H.264 minimum bitrate | H.264 recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps | 5 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 2 Mbps | 3 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
These figures are from YouTube Help’s live encoder settings page, accessed in 2026; the table is codec-specific, and YouTube’s ingest range varies by codec, resolution, and frame rate. If network drops continue, lower the bitrate to a level your upload can hold; test a lower resolution if needed. Ambient footage may not need 60 fps, but reduce frame rate only if the visual result remains acceptable.

3. Isolate the local network path
OBS recommends wired networking when Wi-Fi is unstable: “It’s recommended to use a wired connection when streaming.” Connect OBS’s computer to the router or modem by Ethernet and use a known-good cable. Check the modem/router, ports, cables, network card, switches, and extenders along the path. Try one change at a time so the next test shows whether it helped.
If drops persist, temporarily test whether a VPN, security inspection, network-optimizer software, or outdated network driver is interfering. Keep security protection in place except for a controlled test; restore it afterward and correct only the interference you identify. OBS lists these as possible factors, not guaranteed causes.
4. Ask the ISP with useful evidence
If local equipment checks do not resolve the issue, give your ISP timestamps, upload-test results, OBS logs, and YouTube stream-health messages. Include whether you were wired or on Wi-Fi and whether the fault is time-specific. OBS notes that congestion or routing changes outside your control may require ISP attention. A cable or router change will not fix an upstream routing problem or an upload service that cannot sustain the required bitrate.

Fix rendering or encoding lag
When network drops are not the rising counter, changing ISPs or buying networking equipment is unlikely to fix the problem. Reduce local rendering and encoding work, then verify which change affects the counter.

- Simplify OBS scenes and remove unnecessary filters or GPU-heavy effects.
- Reduce output resolution or frame rate if the ambient source and desired appearance allow it.
- If 60 fps is not working, OBS suggests trying 30 fps. For a mostly static ambient scene, that can be a sensible test, not a universal requirement.
Validate the resulting stream visually and watch the OBS counters. A lower frame rate or simpler scene is a local workload remedy; it does not establish that the network path is healthy.
Use YouTube’s health message to find ingest-setting mismatches
Do not change several encoder settings blindly. Match the specific YouTube Live Control Room warning to the encoder setup. YouTube’s Live API documents configuration issues involving bitrate that is too high or low, codec, frame rate, GOP/keyframe length, and differences between primary and backup streams. Its videoIngestionStarved issue means: “YouTube is not receiving enough video to maintain smooth streaming.”

For YouTube’s current live encoder guidance, use RTMPS where supported, CBR bitrate encoding, and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. Confirm that the selected resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, and keyframe interval agree with the encoder’s actual output.

- Make one likely fix at a time and note the time and exact setting or connection change.
- Test before going live with movement and audio representative of the real stream. YouTube Help says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
- During the test, record OBS Stats, relevant log timestamps, connection type, and YouTube stream-health messages.
- Watch stream health during the test and review any new warnings. If the same symptom returns, use its counter or message to choose the next branch rather than repeating unrelated changes.
Choose a fix that matches the failure
| Intervention | Best fit | Trade-off or limit |
|---|---|---|
| Lower bitrate or resolution | Network drops or YouTube warning about incoming bitrate | May reduce image quality; it will not fix local rendering or encoding overload. |
| Lower frame rate or simplify scenes | Rendering or encoding lag | Changes motion smoothness or visual effects; it will not repair an unstable ISP route. |
| Ethernet and a known-good cable | Testing whether Wi-Fi or local cabling is unreliable | Does not resolve ISP congestion, upstream routing, or encoder load. |
| ISP investigation | Persistent network drops after local path checks | Requires case-specific timestamps and logs; there is no evidence here for an India-wide ISP diagnosis. |
A hosted playback service moves the video playback operation off a local always-on machine, but cannot guarantee a better route from your location or ISP to YouTube. It is an operational alternative, not a cure for a local connection problem.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops the video in the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It does not stream from a camera.
- One flat price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
- Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free, with no card required (one free day per account).
- Monthly: $9.99 per month.
Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, and StreamNeo team support. Plans differ by duration, not features. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide. For five or more slots, contact support. See StreamNeo for details, then start the free first day.
Copyright and continuous-stream considerations
For an ambient channel, confirm that you have the rights to stream every video and audio track, including music, before putting a loop on air. A 24/7 schedule does not change copyright obligations. Also distinguish a live broadcast from its archive: YouTube’s older Full Live Production guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived and streams longer than 12 hours should be recorded by the team for manual upload. That guide is not a complete continuity procedure for 24/7 streams, so confirm current archive behavior for your account rather than assuming the whole continuous stream will be preserved.
