First find out whether frames are being lost while your computer encodes the music stream or while it sends that stream to YouTube. Check the encoder’s dropped-frame counters and CPU load, compare the encoder preview with a local recording, then read the stream-health status and error messages in YouTube Live Control Room. If the local output is clean but YouTube reports connection trouble, test your outbound internet connection before changing encoder settings. This separates the fault domains and avoids treating every viewer playback complaint as a broadcaster-side problem.
Identify where the frames are being lost
“Dropped frames” can describe different symptoms. The encoder may fail to render or encode frames, or the encoded stream may fail to reach YouTube reliably. A viewer’s buffering or playback error does not by itself prove either fault. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance distinguishes reports from one viewer, viewers sharing a connection, and viewers on different connections; errors reported across unrelated viewer connections can point toward the encoder. Use your own encoder and Live Control Room evidence to classify the issue. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guide explains this diagnostic flow.
- Local defects: If the encoder preview or a local recording shows freezes, stutters, missing frames, or bad audio at the same time, investigate encoding load and audio/video sources first.
- Delivery trouble: If the local output looks and sounds normal but Live Control Room reports stream-health or connection errors, test the outbound connection to YouTube.
- Viewer-only reports: Ask whether affected viewers share a network. A single viewer’s problem may be on their playback path; reports from unrelated connections are a stronger reason to inspect the source stream.
Keep a timestamped note of the symptom and the encoder counters, CPU load, and Live Control Room messages at that time. Matching evidence is more useful than changing several settings at once.
Check the encoder and local recording
- Note the time and symptoms. Record when the problem begins and whether it affects picture, sound, or both. Check whether YouTube’s stream-health status changes at the same time.
- Inspect encoder statistics. Look for dropped, skipped, or lagged-frame counters and CPU load. Check the outgoing preview for visible or audible defects. Update the encoder software if it is out of date.
- Review the local archive. Check the recording segment covering the reported time. If the same defect appears there, the problem is present before YouTube delivery; inspect the encoder workload and the audio/video sources.
- Change one factor, then retest. If the machine cannot sustain the current encode, reduce the workload or try a lower resolution, frame rate, or bitrate. Test the changed configuration with representative music and motion before relying on it continuously.
YouTube recommends checking encoder software, its dashboard, CPU load, and local archives when diagnosing encoder problems. Its guidance does not establish a universal CPU threshold or prescribe one OBS setting that works for every machine. If source-side defects remain unexplained after those checks, trying another encoder can help isolate whether the original encoder is the cause. See YouTube’s troubleshooting steps.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Test the outbound connection if local output is clean
When the encoder preview and local recording are healthy but Live Control Room indicates delivery problems, test the strength and stability of the outbound internet connection. If the test identifies a connection problem, contact your internet service provider. The required bitrate must be sustained in the real operating conditions of the stream; a momentary result does not establish that a connection will remain stable around the clock.
A wired connection is an optional way to simplify the local network path while diagnosing a wireless or local-network variable. It is not a guaranteed fix for ISP-side congestion, packet loss, encoder overload, or a problem at YouTube’s ingest. YouTube’s cited troubleshooting guide advises testing outbound connection strength but does not prescribe a particular cable, router setting, or upload-headroom multiplier.

Match the encoder settings to YouTube’s ingest guidance
Choose settings the connection can sustain and compare like with like: note the codec, resolution, frame rate, and encoder-reported bitrate. YouTube’s H.264 guidance lists the following minimum and recommended bitrates; these are platform ingest settings, not a measurement of Indian broadband capacity or a guarantee of continuous delivery. The source page does not display a publication year; values below are from YouTube Help as accessed in 2026. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate table for other codec and mode combinations.
| H.264 video mode | Minimum bitrate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate (CBR); and frame rates up to 60 fps. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. For SDR, its advanced guidance also specifies square pixels, progressive scan, and Rec. 709. Follow the row for your actual codec, resolution, and frame rate rather than inferring a bitrate for an unlisted combination.

The recommended 14 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p30 is not proof that a particular connection can sustain that rate for every 24/7 stream. Test the chosen settings on the actual connection and under realistic audio and picture conditions. If it is unstable, reduce the mode or bitrate and retest rather than assuming the published minimum is a safe operating target.
Build a monitoring routine for a continuous music stream
YouTube’s preflight advice is written for live events. Its checks are useful for a continuous broadcast, but they do not define a complete 24/7 reliability architecture or promise a particular uptime. Adapt them into a routine that fits your operation:

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
- Before relying on the stream, test with audio and movement similar to the actual broadcast. Inspect the Live Control Room preview and monitor picture and sound.
- Verify that the event is accessible from the channel or watch page and on mobile, where practical.
- Confirm that the local archive is growing, and check that its contents remain playable.
- During operation, watch stream-health messages and note incidents with timestamps. YouTube describes stream metrics and health status in its Live Control Room metrics guide; its live-stream error-message guide explains the messages and their severity.
- If you have a backup encoder, document and periodically test the failover path. YouTube describes testing by stopping the primary encoder or unplugging its Ethernet cable, then confirming that the player switches to the backup encoder.
These checks can reveal a failure and help confirm that a backup works; they are not a substitute for an around-the-clock plan for staffing, power, hardware, and network redundancy. YouTube’s live-streaming tips for computer-based broadcasts provide the preflight and backup-test guidance.
