A tilted horizon, drifting view, or shaky-looking clip from the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 does not always mean the gimbal is broken. First separate a level or drift problem from blur caused by dim light or normal movement; then check startup, firmware, attachments, and gimbal mode before calibrating. If the camera was dropped, fails its self-check, or still has a severe fault after these checks, request DJI service.
Identify what kind of gimbal problem you have
Watch what happens while the Pocket 3 is stationary, then compare it with footage recorded while walking or in a dim scene. The distinction matters: a persistently tilted or drifting view points to a different cause than blur that appears only in motion or low light.

- Tilted horizon or drift while stationary: Check startup movement, gimbal mode, attached films or accessories, and calibration.
- Blur or ghosting mainly in dim scenes: The camera may be using a slower shutter to brighten the image; that can look like stabilization failure.
- Shake while walking or moving vertically: The Pocket 3 has three-axis stabilization, but DJI says it does not support vertical/Z-axis stabilization.
- Sharp vibration, an overload warning, or a problem after impact: Treat it as a possible mechanical fault and follow the checks below before escalating.
DJI describes these reported symptoms as the gimbal appearing skewed or unleveled, drifting, or shaking. See DJI’s gimbal troubleshooting guidance.

Keep the camera still during startup
Power on the Pocket 3 while it is stationary. DJI advises remaining still for 1–2 seconds before startup; if the camera moves while starting, recalibrate it. A small amount of movement at this point can affect whether the view appears level.

Update firmware and remove possible obstructions
Connect to the DJI Mimo app and follow its prompts to update firmware. Then remove third-party films or accessories attached to the gimbal and check whether the issue changes. Recenter the gimbal or run auto tune if available. Do not assume an attachment is harmless simply because it fits: an obstruction or added resistance can affect gimbal movement.
DJI’s Osmo Pocket 3 downloads page lists the User Manual v1.0, dated 2023-10-25, and Release Notes dated 2025-08-26. Firmware and app versions can change, so use the app’s current prompts rather than relying on an old version number.

Check the selected gimbal mode
When diagnosing whether the view is level, confirm the camera is not in FPV mode. DJI notes that FPV mode’s “horizontal” reference is relative to the camera body, so its framing may not behave like a horizon-level view.
Calibrate the gimbal safely
Calibration is a reasonable next step for a skewed or drifting view, especially after startup movement. Keep the device upright, steady, and untouched until the process finishes.

- On the Pocket 3, swipe down and open System Settings.
- Choose Gimbal Calibration.
- Place the camera vertically on a level, stable surface.
- Confirm the prompt if shown, then do not touch or move the camera until calibration completes.
DJI also describes calibration through the DJI Mimo app under Gimbal and Handle Settings. If the camera cannot complete calibration or its self-check, stop repeating the procedure and seek DJI diagnosis. See DJI’s calibration and gimbal instructions.
Fix shaking by matching the cause
Gimbal limits or a motor overload warning
The gimbal has mechanical movement limits; it is not designed to rotate without restriction. Keep movement within those limits. If the screen displays “Gimbal Motor Overloaded”, calibrate the gimbal and retry. Repeated overload behavior, especially with sharp vibration or impaired movement, warrants service rather than forceful repositioning.

Visible debris around the gimbal arm
Power the camera off and visually inspect the gimbal axis arm. DJI advises cleaning off visible debris. Do not pry into the assembly or force an axis by hand.

Blur in dim scenes
In low light, auto exposure may slow the shutter to gather more light. A slower shutter makes motion blur or ghosting more likely even if the gimbal is working normally. Hold the camera steadily, add ambient light, or try Low-Light Video mode. Alternatively, set Exposure to M (manual) and choose a faster shutter; DJI’s examples include 1/200, 1/400, and 1/500. These are examples, not universal settings: a faster shutter reduces blur but can make the image darker unless more light is available.

Vertical movement while walking
The Pocket 3 stabilizes on three axes but does not provide vertical/Z-axis stabilization, so some up-and-down movement can remain in footage. DJI suggests tilting the handle slightly forward so the tilt motor can help reduce vertical jitter.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When to request DJI service
Use DJI’s online repair request for diagnosis if the camera was dropped or collided, has visible structural damage, cannot complete its gimbal self-check, vibrates sharply, or remains skewed or shaky after relevant checks and calibration. Do not try an unverified replacement motor or force a damaged assembly back into alignment.
For a persistent skew, DJI asks users to keep the camera stationary for 1–2 seconds after power-on, select Follow mode, and center a distant vertical object precisely in the frame. Include original footage, the firmware version, the test time, and the device log with the support request so DJI can assess the behavior.
