If Discord is not working in desktop Chrome, first identify what is failing: the page may not load, content or images may be missing, or voice and video may not work. Start with checks that do not change browser settings, then move to the fix that matches your symptom. Change one thing at a time and retest.
1. Check whether Discord is having a service issue
Before changing Chrome settings, check Discord Status. If Discord lists an incident affecting the feature you need, local browser changes may not resolve it. The status page is live, so its information can change.

2. Reload Discord and reopen the tab
Reload the page once. If it remains blank or stuck, close the Discord tab and open Discord again in a new tab. This is a low-risk diagnostic, not a guaranteed fix; Discord’s general troubleshooting guidance recommends restarting the client when problems occur.

3. Check Chrome compatibility and updates
Discord recommends verifying that the browser is compatible. Its guidance does not establish a specific minimum Chrome version here, so do not rely on an assumed version threshold. Make sure Chrome is up to date, then test Discord again.

4. Restore Chrome’s microphone or camera permission
If the page works but Discord cannot use your microphone or camera, check the relevant Chrome site permission. In desktop Chrome, open Settings > Privacy and security > Site Settings, then choose Microphone or Camera. Chrome’s labels may change over time.
- In the selected device-permission page, look for Discord under sites that are not allowed to use the device.
- Remove Discord’s blocked entry, then return to Discord and join a voice channel or start the feature that needs the camera.
- When Chrome prompts for access, choose the option that allows Discord to use the device.

5. Test extensions if content or images are missing
Ad blockers and other browser extensions can interfere with Discord images or other content, but they are not a universal explanation for every loading or sign-in problem. Temporarily disable extensions that might filter Discord content, or allowlist discord.com. If images or assets served from Discord’s CDN are the issue, Discord also names cdn.discordapp.com.

Retest after changing one extension or allowlist entry. If the content returns, that points to an extension-related conflict; it does not establish that extensions are the cause of unrelated symptoms.
6. Clear cache and cookies only when the symptom fits
For asset-loading errors or persistent missing content, Discord recommends clearing browser cache and cookies. This is a more disruptive step than reloading or checking a permission: clearing site data can affect your sign-in state, so you may need to sign in to Discord again. Avoid clearing all browsing data as a first response to a microphone-only problem.
7. Check the connection and network restrictions
Confirm the computer is online and that other websites work. If practical, try Discord on another network. If it works there but not on the original connection, that is evidence of a network-specific problem, though it does not identify the exact restriction. Discord’s symptom-specific guidance also mentions firewall or antivirus interference for asset-loading errors; check those controls only when the symptom and error point in that direction.

For a matching connection error, Discord’s older console-log troubleshooting guidance discusses network troubleshooting such as DNS or IP renewal. If only voice or video is failing, check Discord’s device settings before clearing browser data. Open User Settings > Voice & Video and verify the input mode, selected microphone, selected speakers, and volume. Confirm that Chrome and your operating system have permission to use the needed microphone or camera, and check that any headset or webcam connection is secure.
Discord’s Voice and Video Troubleshooting Guide covers browser compatibility, permissions, device connections, and device selection. For a camera issue, trying another browser can help determine whether the problem is specific to Chrome; it does not by itself prove the cause.

9. Gather useful details and contact Discord Support
If the problem persists, record what happens and what you have already checked before contacting Discord Support. Include:
- Your Chrome version and whether Discord fails in Chrome only or in another client too.
- The exact error text, if any, and the steps that reproduce the problem.
- For voice or video, the selected input and output devices and relevant permission or device-setting screenshots.
- Whether the issue changes on another network, browser, or device.
Discord’s general troubleshooting guide and voice/video guide ask users to provide relevant browser, version, device, and problem details when reporting persistent issues.
