Cursor’s current documentation says some shell themes, including Powerlevel9k and Powerlevel10k, can interfere with inline terminal output. If the only issue is that older lines vanish after a long command, that may instead be Cursor’s long-output clipping behavior.
First identify which terminal problem you have
“Truncation” can describe different symptoms, and the right fix depends on which one you see:

- Malformed or oddly formatted inline output: prompt or theme rendering may be interfering with Cursor’s terminal display.
- Agent waits instead of detecting that a command ended: this is a command-completion detection symptom reported by some users with Powerlevel10k.
- Older lines disappear after a long command: Cursor release notes describe long output being truncated from the top, leaving more recent output visible. That behavior alone does not show that Powerlevel10k caused a formatting problem.

Skip Powerlevel10k only in Cursor sessions
Cursor’s documented first-line workaround is to skip the theme or use a simpler prompt while Cursor runs. Its shell examples use the CURSOR_AGENT environment variable, so you can keep your usual Powerlevel10k prompt in normal terminal sessions.

zsh with Powerlevel10k
In ~/.zshrc, condition the part of your startup configuration that loads the theme:

fiPlace the condition where it prevents Powerlevel10k from initializing in the affected Cursor session. If your theme is loaded from a different file or through a plugin manager, adapt the condition to that setup rather than adding this snippet unchanged.

bash with a simple prompt
Cursor’s bash example sets a basic PS1 in Cursor sessions:

fiAfter saving the startup-file change, restart the affected Cursor terminal session so the shell reads the updated configuration. Run a short command in Cursor, then compare its output with the same command in a normal shell. If formatting improves only when the theme is skipped in Cursor, keep the conditional change scoped to Cursor sessions.

If only the oldest lines disappear from long output
Cursor release notes describe long shell output truncating from the top, so the latest output remains visible. If that is your only symptom, it may be output-preview behavior rather than a prompt-rendering failure. When you need a complete log, redirect the command’s output to a file or otherwise retain it outside the terminal preview. See Cursor release notes for the documented behavior.
If Agent does not detect command completion
A Cursor Community Forum participant reported that Agent did not automatically detect when a command finished with Powerlevel10k enabled, and described a setup-dependent workaround involving conditional iTerm2 shell integration and command lifecycle markers. This is a community suggestion, not Cursor’s current official first-line recommendation. Consider it only if command-completion detection is the specific problem, you need to retain the theme, and you are comfortable adapting shell integration for your configuration. What the evidence says about Powerlevel10k and Oh My Zsh
Cursor’s documented guidance identifies shell themes generally and names Powerlevel9k and Powerlevel10k; it does not identify Oh My Zsh alone as the confirmed cause. The forum report pairs Oh My Zsh with Powerlevel10k, so it does not isolate which part of that setup produced the reported behavior. Powerlevel10k’s README discusses terminal-specific shell integration and prompt-alignment diagnostics, which can help when investigating rendering, but does not establish that the theme is defective in every Cursor configuration: Powerlevel10k README.
