For a TCL NXTPAPER 14 that will not turn on, charge it with an official charger for at least 30 minutes, then try a forced reboot. For scratch-like screen marks, first distinguish possible metal residue from actual screen damage: TCL’s cleaning suggestion applies only to residue. TCL lists questions about power, marks, battery drain, heating, shutdowns and fingerprint unlocking, but its support topics do not show how often these problems occur or establish that they indicate a product defect.
Start with the symptom
- Will not power on: charge, then try a forced reboot.
- Scratch-like marks: consider TCL’s residue explanation only if the surface is not visibly damaged.
- Fast battery drain: try basic checks from TCL’s general battery guidance.
- Heating, automatic shutdown or slow fingerprint unlock: consult TCL’s current regional support guidance; detailed steps for these issues are not available in the cited FAQ material.
The model covered here is the TCL NXTPAPER 14, model 9491G. TCL describes it as having a 14.3-inch 2K NXTPAPER display. Support instructions may change or vary by region, so use TCL’s NXTPAPER 14 support page for current advice.

What to do if the device will not power on
- Connect the tablet to an official charger and leave it charging for at least 30 minutes.
- Try turning it on again.
- If it still does not respond, hold the power key for 10 to 15 seconds. TCL says to hold it until the device vibrates to perform a forced reboot.
- If that does not work, TCL suggests resetting or updating the device. Before any factory reset, check that important data is backed up and follow TCL’s current instructions; a reset can erase data.
- If the tablet remains unresponsive, contact TCL through the regional hotline or repair-center route on its support page.
TCL’s FAQ, “What should I do if my device cannot power on?”, gives the forced-reboot instruction as: “Press and hold the power key for 10 to 15 seconds until the device vibrates, to perform a forced re-boot.” The captured guidance does not specify a model-specific charger wattage.

How to handle scratch-like marks on the NXTPAPER screen
TCL says metal powder can be left in small pits on the special NXTPAPER surface after repeated friction with metal. The residue may look like scratches, but that explanation does not mean every mark is residue or that cleaning will repair a scratch.

- For marks that fit TCL’s description of possible metal residue, try an HB or 2B pencil eraser.
- If the marks remain, TCL suggests using a half-pea-sized amount of toothpaste or the same small amount of an abrasive cream cleaner.
- If the marks persist, or the screen is visibly gouged, cracked or otherwise damaged, stop and contact TCL support or a repair center.
These are TCL’s suggestions for the described scratch-like residue, not a general recommendation to polish the display. They should not be treated as a way to repair actual scratches, coating damage or a display fault. See TCL’s regional support page for the appropriate contact route.

TCL’s battery suggestions come from its general battery FAQ, not a confirmed NXTPAPER 14-specific diagnosis. Treat them as basic checks rather than evidence that the tablet has a known battery fault.
- Consider whether the tablet is being used in very high or very low temperatures.
- Turn off Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or GPS when you do not need them.
- Close apps running in the background.
- Keep in mind that sustained gaming and video playback can use battery quickly.
- If the problem continues, TCL’s general guidance suggests trying an update or reset. Check backups and current TCL instructions before a reset because it may erase data.
If the tablet heats up, powers off or has fingerprint problems
TCL’s NXTPAPER 14 support listing includes separate FAQs for heating, automatic power-off and slow or failing fingerprint unlock. The detailed heating and shutdown instructions, and the fingerprint FAQ’s guidance, are not established in the cited material. Avoid assuming a cause or applying an unverified fix: open the current regional TCL NXTPAPER 14 support page and follow the instructions available for your location. If the tablet continues to behave abnormally after those checks, contact TCL support or a repair center.
When to contact TCL
- The tablet still will not turn on after charging and a forced reboot.
- Screen marks remain after TCL’s residue-cleaning suggestions, or the screen is visibly damaged.
- Heating, automatic shutdown or fingerprint unlocking continues to cause problems after following current regional guidance.
- You are considering a reset but need help protecting data or confirming the correct procedure.
TCL’s support topics do not provide issue-prevalence figures or establish a failure rate. Use its regional support route for unresolved symptoms rather than treating an FAQ listing as proof of a defect.
