First, identify what is actually failing
POCO troubleshooting is safest when you match the remedy to the symptom. A single app that crashes points toward app compatibility, corrupted cache, low storage or an app-specific error. A phone that freezes across several apps suggests a broader system, workload, storage or software problem. Warmth during a game is a different case from warmth while the phone is idle, and heat immediately after an update has a model-specific explanation on some devices.

Before changing anything, note four details:
- Scope: Is only one app affected, or do Settings, the home screen and several apps stop responding?
- Timing: Did the issue begin after a system update, app update or device migration? Does it happen only after long use?
- Workload: Was the phone gaming, installing software, switching repeatedly between apps, charging or running many background tasks?
- Conditions: Was the network weak, the room hot, storage nearly full or the phone enclosed in a poorly ventilated place?
Xiaomi’s support answers are model-specific. An explanation published for a POCO C85, F6 Pro, X6 Pro, F7, F7 Pro or C40 should be treated as guidance for that model, not a universal diagnosis for every POCO phone.

Use this low-risk troubleshooting order
- Save work and close what you can. If the phone still responds, close unused apps and stop downloads, installations or games. Repeatedly launching apps and leaving background processes active increases the workload.
- Restart the phone. A restart clears temporary processes and is a reversible first step for both app instability and sluggish system behavior.
- Install pending updates. Check for a phone-system update and update the affected app from its normal app store. Xiaomi says app updates can improve compatibility with newer system versions.
- Check storage. Remove files or apps you no longer need if free space is low. Xiaomi identifies insufficient storage as a possible contributor to app instability on specific POCO models.
- Clear one app’s cache. On many current POCO builds, open Settings, choose Apps, select the affected app, open Storage and use Clear cache. Menu names can differ by HyperOS version. Clear cache first; clearing app data can sign you out or remove locally stored information.
- Reinstall only the app that remains unstable. Confirm that any important data is synchronized before uninstalling. Reinstalling is more disruptive than clearing a cache, so use it after updates and the cache check.
- Reduce the workload and observe. Test the phone with fewer apps open, lower display or game settings and a stable network. Note whether the symptom returns and under which conditions.
These steps are deliberately reversible. Do not open the phone, attempt a built-in battery replacement or install unofficial firmware as routine troubleshooting.

Fixing one app that crashes or stops responding
Update the app and the phone
For the POCO F7 Pro, Xiaomi lists app compatibility, low storage and a corrupted app cache among possible reasons that apps may crash. Install every available update for the affected app and for the phone before assuming the hardware is defective. An app written for an older system version can become unstable after a system change, while an updated app may contain the compatibility fix.
Close background apps and restart
Close apps you are not using, then restart the phone. This is particularly useful when the crash appears after multitasking rather than immediately at launch. After restarting, open only the problem app and test its main function before reopening a large set of background apps.
Check storage before reinstalling
A nearly full phone can leave too little working space for an app or for the system. Remove unneeded downloads, videos or unused apps, then restart and test again. Keep the distinction clear: storage maintenance can help an instability caused by low space, but it does not prove that storage was the cause.
Clear cache, then reinstall if needed
Use the app’s Storage screen to clear its cache. Cache removal targets temporary files and normally does not remove the account itself. If the app still crashes, reinstall it after confirming that its important content is backed up or synchronized. If several unrelated apps fail, stop treating this as a single-app problem and move to system-wide checks.

When an “App Not Responding” dialog appears
Xiaomi’s POCO C85 guidance says that, when an Android “App Not Responding” dialog appears, you should tap Options once and wait rather than repeatedly tapping the screen. Repeated taps can add more commands while the app is already stalled. If it recovers, close the app, restart the phone and apply the update and storage checks above.
When the whole POCO phone freezes
Distinguish a temporary stall from a recurring system problem
A freeze limited to one app is handled differently from a phone that cannot open Settings, switch home screens or respond in several apps. Record whether the freeze follows gaming, app switching, an update or device migration. Xiaomi’s POCO support material identifies high resource use, low storage, network status, corrupted app data and system errors as possible contributors depending on the model and symptom.
Use the least disruptive recovery first
- Wait briefly if the phone is finishing an installation or other visible task; avoid repeatedly tapping a frozen dialog.
- If the interface responds, close background apps and restart.
- Install pending system and app updates after the restart.
- Check free storage and remove unnecessary files.
- Test again without immediately reopening every app or starting a demanding game.
The published question “Why does the POCO M6 freeze when using it?” illustrates why the model matters: Xiaomi presents separate FAQs for separate devices. Do not transfer a fix or an expected time frame from another POCO model without checking the phone’s own support guidance.
Reducing warmth during normal use
Some warmth is associated with workload, network activity or software maintenance. The manufacturer recommendations below apply to the named models and situations; they are not a universal temperature test. No official temperature threshold is established in the guidance covered here.

POCO C85: network, background tasks and display load
Xiaomi’s POCO C85 warmth guidance cites poor network conditions, many background tasks and high-load apps as possible contributors. Try the following in order:
- Move to a more stable network or reduce activity that is repeatedly retrying over a weak connection.
- Clear background tasks and close apps you are not using.
- Reduce screen brightness and, where the setting is available, use a lower refresh rate.
- Avoid demanding use in hot ambient conditions.
- Keep the phone’s software current.
Warmth that appears only while the phone is handling a poor signal or a heavy app is a different pattern from warmth that continues while the device is idle.
POCO F6 Pro: heat while switching between apps
On the POCO F6 Pro, Xiaomi explains that repeatedly launching apps and maintaining background processes increases CPU activity. Close unnecessary apps, take breaks during long sessions and use the phone in a ventilated environment. If the problem persists despite reducing this workload, Xiaomi’s page directs owners to a local after-sales center rather than prescribing a particular temperature limit.

For gaming-related heat on the POCO X6 Pro, Xiaomi recommends lowering the game’s frame rate and graphics settings. Software downloads and installations can also add load. Let those tasks finish, then allow the phone to cool before starting another demanding session. Lowering settings reduces workload; it does not establish that every warm gaming phone has a fault.

General workload habits
Across these model-specific recommendations, the practical pattern is consistent: avoid running several demanding activities at once, take breaks, keep air around the phone and reduce display or game demands when heat rises. A stable network can also reduce repeated radio activity. Do not use warmth alone to diagnose a battery defect.
Warmth after a system update: the POCO F7 case
Xiaomi’s UK FAQ for the POCO F7 says the phone can feel noticeably warmer for one to two days after a system update. Its explanation is that apps are being recompiled while the system performs optimization and indexing, temporarily increasing workload. The same guidance says temperature should gradually return to normal once this work stabilizes.
Keep that one-to-two-day period limited to the POCO F7 guidance. It is not a guaranteed timetable for every POCO model, every update or every form of overheating. During the period, avoid stacking gaming, large downloads and heavy multitasking, and check whether warmth decreases as the maintenance work finishes. Persistent or severe heat, especially when the phone is idle, requires escalation rather than an assumption that it is normal post-update behavior.

Battery and overheating safety
Stop immediately for visible battery damage
The POCO C40 User Guide states: “If the battery appears deformed or damaged, stop using it immediately.” A swollen, deformed or otherwise visibly damaged battery is not a cache, refresh-rate or game-settings problem. Disconnect normal use and arrange professional help.
Do not remove the built-in battery yourself
The same guide says built-in battery removal or repair should be handled by an authorized repair center. Do not open the phone, puncture a battery, attempt a replacement or rely on an unofficial repair as a troubleshooting step. Xiaomi directs users with device faults to Mi customer support or an authorized repair center.
Know when software advice has ended
Contact Xiaomi after-sales support or a local authorized repair center when overheating persists after reducing workload, when the device repeatedly freezes despite updates and storage maintenance, or when physical damage is visible. The F6 Pro heat guidance specifically recommends a local after-sales center for persistent overheating. Service availability and procedures can vary by region.
What not to assume
- Warm does not automatically mean dangerous: workload, weak networks, background tasks and update maintenance can all raise activity on the named models.
- One model’s timing is not universal: the one-to-two-day post-update explanation is published for the POCO F7 in the UK guidance.
- A single app crash is not proof of hardware failure: update, storage and cache checks come first.
- No temperature number is available here: do not invent a threshold or use an unrelated device’s limit.
- Buying a generic accessory is not a general cure: the safety guidance favors included or authorized compatible charging accessories and professional battery service, not a retail accessory as an overheating fix.

- For gaming heat, lower frame rate and graphics; for display-related warmth, reduce brightness or refresh rate where available.
- Stop using the phone and seek professional service for persistent overheating or a deformed or damaged battery.
